Stella Bella Marie.🐾 I wanted to share her story in her Mom's words because it's a very special one. Be prepared for the tissues. ❤️🩹 "Stella and I have been together for 15 years. We have moved to tons of new houses and yards. We love to sit outside together, go for walks, cuddle on the couch and bask in the sunshine. Stella loves quiet time and living the relaxed carefree life. Are there any specific poses or props you would like to include in your session Stella was found in the back of a Tahoe in a Walmart parking lot in sweetwater, Texas. She came home with her sister and my dad on a long 2 week trip. They were maybe 5 weeks old when my dad found them. They were covered in fleas and ticks but still the happiest girls in the world. My dad and uncle snuck them into hotel rooms every night and bathed them and pampered them and drove in a semi with them the rest of their trip and then back home. Stella and her sister Abilene lived with us from that point on. I was only 9 years old when they came into my life and from that point on we were best friends. Stella and I did everything together. She lived with my nana and papa and I until my papa passed away. Then her and I moved into multiple homes since then. She’s always been my rock. She’s my last connection to my papa and my soul mate that I grew up with. She’s the best adventure seeker, tear holder, movie watching, snack stealing cuddle bug I’ve ever had. We lost her sister last March and Stella remained by my side. She kept fighting even though we both lost a piece of ourselves when Abilene left. Stella is starting to show that she is ready to be with her sister and my papa again." Big or small, young or old, or somewhere in between, professional portraits of your best friend will always be something you'll cherish. We're remembering Frankie this week. I fell in love with this sweet baby, with such a gentle soul. Frankie's mom wanted him to have one last beach day before starting his next adventure over the rainbow bridge, so we met up at the local dog-friendly beach on a quiet afternoon to take it all in. He got to do sooo many sniffs, watch the birds, feel the breeze, and cuddle up with mom and dad. This boy was loved so very much and it was amazing to witness. I cannot express how honored I am to be allowed a peek into these incredible moments of pure love and capture them in a way that you can remember them forever. Getting to know you and your babies, even if for just one afternoon, is the absolute best part of my job. We love you, Frankie. 🧡

My first time working with a horse was intimidating but beautiful. 🥰 They really are amazing. If there’s one thing I feel passionately about in this life, it’s animals. The bonds we form with our pets is life changing and to know the love of a dog, is to know true love. I recently joined The Tilly Project to offer end of life pet photos free of charge. Everyone deserves a nice photo with their pet before they’re gone 🫶 Milo- I only knew you for a an hour or so, but haven’t been able to stop thinking of this sweet boy since our session. The way his eyes lit up when he saw his tennis ball 🎾 He frolicked and played and ate some yummy treats, never showing if he was in pain. Erin was so strong and held back her tears but we both cried a bit at the end of shooting. We simply don’t deserve animals 💕

“Loving you changed my life; losing you did the same.” I received an inquiry from Gregory yesterday morning about his 12yr old basset hound, Wilbur, and how they had made arrangements for him to peacefully cross the rainbow bridge this coming Tuesday, and hoped I might have availability to come do a session before then. I of course responded with, “I can come tomorrow.” This afternoon, around 1pm I got to meet Wilbur and his human. When i turned the corner, and saw Wilbur laying in his bed, I knew this boy was tired. You could see the look in his eyes that he wanted to say hi, but his body could not. We made sure to keep him comfy in his set up the whole time and just loved on him for the next 30 mins. 4 hours later, I got a text from Gregory that Wilbur decided on his own that his fight was done, and he passed peacefully in the comfort of his bed. No dog should EVER have to experience cancer. I met Scout and her family at Sloan's Lake on a bright, sunny day. The place was packed with people enjoying the weather. They had told me that Scout wasn't getting around very well anymore, and I was concerned that she couldn't navigate the park with us. So imagine my surprise when they showed up with Scout in a wagon! Let me tell you, Scout LOVES her wagon. She's so cute riding around in it. We moved around Sloan's Lake, looking for pretty light and green grass to celebrate her life. Scout loves tennis balls and loves being outside, and we gave her both of those things. End-of-life pet photography sessions don't have to be sad. Nicki is an 11yr old chihuahua mix who was recently diagnosed with bladder cancer. When Nicki is not sitting on her moms lap in their favorite rocking chair, she enjoys patrolling her 3 acres of land, making sure no strangers, or strong winds trespass, and keeping the neighborhood in line. Beau had a Going with Grace session tonight and he will receive his wings on Friday. My 7-year-old daughter is very inquisitive, so she knew the story about Beau and his photo session. But, when she saw his photos on my computer as I was editing, she said “Wait - he doesn’t look sick. He looks so happy. He is smiling!” This happens so often with my Going with Grace clients. I am telling you with utmost confidence - dogs KNOW this is a meaningful experience and they are always on their best behavior. I’m so very humbled when pet parents choose me to capture these delicate moments. I truly know I was given a gift and each dog I meet reinforces this in their own unique way. Luna and her Mom have been through so much together. They have traveled the country from the state of Washington, across the country and up and down the east coast. Mom refers to Luna as her "back seat buddy". Adopted at 8 weeks old and now she is 15 years old. Luna has some medical issues that have caused her to slow down significantly. Amber is not looking so good. She's been panting heavily for a few days and seems to be in a lot of pain. We took her to the vet ER at 3:30 AM and did an xray with some blood work... it looks like her lungs have cancerous growths on them and she has kidney disease which both have irreversible damage.. We're going to do at home hospice care to see if we can ease her pain any and so we can all have a final moments with amber. I love this dog. “Never forget that in between hello & goodbye, there was so much love.” Yesterday, I was contacted for an emergency EOL session and I came over 5hrs later. Meet Champ, a 16yr old lab/boxer mix who has had the most loving family good entire life. Champs owner, is a part of the US Military and is currently stationed overseas. While overseas, Champ has been able to live with his hoooman Grandma, Aunts & Uncles and his hoomam little sister. How amazing that this family pulls together to make sure he still has the best life and gets shown the unconditional love he deserves everyday. Champs body is failing him as he gets older and is making his quality of life not what it used to be. Today, April 18th at 4:30pm, surrounded by the people he loves the most, and his owner who was able to FaceTime in, Champ was set free of his pain, and crossed the rainbow bridge. Meet Moose! He's a fantastic guy and so sweet and gentle. Moose is a 7-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog that was diagnosed this week with an aggressive form of cancer. His people were told that he had only days left, weeks if they were lucky. They didn't hesitate to find a photographer, and I was honored they contacted me. Last night, we walked around a local park in Lakewood, CO, enjoying sunshine, fresh air, and beautiful evening light. It was a celebration of him, a moment of peace where he could feel young again, doing his favorite things. Legacy sessions are for pets about to cross the Rainbow Bridge, and they are so worth it to capture these moments, no matter how sad we are. “It’s impossible to forget a dog, who gave you so much to remember.” I personally, have known Sasha ever since Paige & Justin started their foster journey with her, which ended in the best foster fail situation. Sasha was a pup rescued thru Crate Escape Rescue Inc along with 24 other huskies in a puppy mill. Sasha, for the first 2yrs of her life, never saw daylight, and was confined to a cage. So much so, that she didn’t know how to walk, and would only walk in circles since that was all she knew. Sasha ultimately stole their hearts and found her forever home with her 2 other husky siblings, Luna & Aurora. Sasha has had many sleepovers and play dates with my own husky crew, and has been a part of our Husky Sunday dog park meet ups over the last 4 years. “Sasha aka Cha came to us during the pandemic as a foster. She’s approx 6yrs old. She is the sweetest girl ever with her own quirky personality so of course we fell in love with her and she became an epic foster fail. When Sasha is not wooing at us for her walks, she’s begging for car rides, trips to the doggie park and of course cookies! She loves her doggo sisters and all hoomans she encounters. F O R E V E R 🐾 S E S S I O N | Murphy’s Story….. “Murphy was found by a “good samaritan” in December 2017, when it was bitter cold outside, and brought to Almost Home Animal Shelter - then located in Southfield. I saw his story online (he was named Nelson at the time) and I was taken by his sweet face. He was SO skinny, at 62 lbs and it was thought he had frostbite because he had lost all of his nails. Within a week, I’d filled out an application, along with many others, interviewed, Eric and I brought Finn for a “meet and greet” at Premier Pet Supply and just like that - changed his name to Murphy and he came home with us! From day 1, Murphy was a sweet, loving, mellow and appreciative boy. He didn’t bark for the first week or so that we had him but when he finally found his voice, he had a BIG bark!!! After a DNA test, we found out he was 87% Lab, with the remainder being Golden Retriever and Great Dane. His coloring is that of a yellow Lab so he was a “twin” to his brother Finn, except for the fact that he was much taller with a boxy head due to the Great Dane in him! Life with Murphy has been wonderful. Every meal was met with joy and appreciation; every TV watching session was guaranteed to include an 85 pound dog on your lap - with no regard to whether it was comfortable for you or not; every summer was filled with sunbathing sessions and popsicles, homemade by Mama. Murphy had 2 autoimmune diseases his whole life that required monthly shots and multiple daily meds that he took like a champ! He never met a jar of peanut butter he didn’t like so his attitude appeared to be, “bring on the needles, just keep the peanut butter coming”! He was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma in September 2023 and endured surgery, 5 rounds (the max) of chemotherapy, multiple blood tests, x-rays, and ultrasounds, all while holding onto his “treatment stuffed animal” for comfort. He was loved by everyone who met him and while I found him, there is no doubt he was a Papa’s boy. Continued in the comments….

One of the main reasons I put so much energy and time into End of Life sessions is because I follow Jesus, and I believe and love God's Word. Romans 12:15 says Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. I feel that in the nature of this work in the very fact that this last Saturday morning I photographed Penny, who was nearing the end of her life, and then a smiling couple with their dog celebrating their wedding anniversary at 12pm the same day. It's difficult. I couldn't do it without my relationship with God. But, I find that very often these sessions open the door for me to be able to encourage people and pray for them/ with them, or jusy to comfort them. These are very difficult sessions for both clients and photographers. And if I can give any encouragement to anyone here, it's this: God is the greatest Comforter there is and ever will be. Jesus was fully God but also fully man and therefor can fully empathize with our human experience because of what He went through. He will never turn away from you when you call on His name-- He's no stranger to pain. I was lucky enough to take end of life photos for these two sweet goats. Oliver was born in my family's barn, back in 2010, and spent a lot of time in the house after we lost his mom. He would come to the fence when you called for him, and loved love. This is far from my usual post and should have a ⚠️ trigger warning ⚠️ attached to this. If this type of post isn’t for you, don’t scroll. It is sad, it talks about death. I have always offered end of life sessions to clients since I started my business, my heart horse sessions are so deeply personal to me and something my clients cherish with their horses they may never have otherwise been able to get photos with. It’s a sad time to say goodbye to our friends, but they know they don’t have to be alone during the process ❤️ This one was a little different, the first one to make me cry. And I mean sob. I got the call from Emily that Forrest wasn’t doing well and we were going to have to wait and see how he did and possibly Friday we would know. Fast forward to yesterday and she said “today’s the day. He’s gone downhill and he isn’t going to make it.” I had Kevin rush me my camera at work and race over there to be with them. She saved Forrest from a bad situation, brought him back with love and all the cookies he could ever want. And he knew he was loved all the way to the end of his life. Emily did right by this horse by giving him a soft place to land. And that’s all any of us could ever ask for with our horses. We want the best for them. We want them to know peace and to be pain free. Forrest went surrounded by the people who loved him, while his pasture mate watched on so he could process his own grief.
