Running through blue painters tape never felt so good! The 3rd edition of the CP 50k Trail Race did not disappoint. Some 40 participants with even a 3.5 year old completing 4 ginormous laps. Lots of finishers with 40, 50, and 60 laps, and two hardy souls with 100 laps. I feel like I stay in decent shape most of the time. Training for any event is probably a good idea. I did not really have that luxury, so I used my base fitness to get to a half marathon. I then focused on a marathon, and that seemed to materialize with a good bit of effort. Then it became a mental toughness battle. “One more lap” at .33 miles seemed a fitting moniker. The 12th year that my wife and I have kicked off the “season” at the Sourdough Snowshoe Race. It’s a bunch of cool people coming out to see what nature can offer up. This year was amazing. I’m not in super running shape, so plowing through deep powder made it challenging for sure, but also a lot of fun. It’s an out and back, so the return leg went a little easier with run-able terrain. With that said, running in snowshoes still requires coordination and stamina.
