One of my all time favorite hood Hip Hop crime thriller movies from the early 90s with the late Tupac Shakur, Omar Epps, Jermaine Hopkins, Khalil Kain and Vincent Laresca. With cameo appearances by Michael Badalucco, Samuel L. Jackson, a young Donald Faison, Queen Latifah, Special Ed, Treach of Naughty By Nature, Erick Sermon, Ed Lover, PMD, and Stretch. From the legendary genre film director Ernest R. Dickerson. This movie has the vibe of a horror slasher type feel to it with Bishop going completely crazy and turned into a homicidal maniac as the movie went on. I truly believe if the Bishop character lived on, he would of continued killing more people who got in his way as any potential crazed serial killer would. Great performances from everyone and definitely by Pac as he became the terrifying villain of the movie. I wish, as a lot us do, he could of lived on and made more great movies. 22 years ago today, Ernest R. Dickerson’s almost forgotten supernatural slasher hood horror flick Bones was released in theaters on October 26, 2001. Maybe not the best horror flick from the early 2000s but I definitely enjoyed it as a ridiculous so bad it’s entertaining movie with Snoop Dogg as the main undead antagonist/protagonist Jimmy Bones. In my opinion, it does have it’s eerie horror moments and atmosphere especially from the camera in it’s beautifully dark modern gothic gritty setting. This is from the man who brought us such classics, Juice, Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight, Bulletproof, Surviving the Game and Never Die Alone. Great film director in my opinion who can work with any film genre in the game. Juice has the essence of a horror suspense thriller in a hood setting in my opinion and I heard others opinion as well. I will say that one maggot vomit scene definitely reminded me of Lucio Fulci’s City of the Living Dead aka The Gates of Hell.
