Matching letters and CVC with Pictures Today, we had a wonderful teamwork activity. The kids were divided into groups of 3-4 children, with each group wearing different colorful bracelets. The rules of the game were to match the CVC words and letters with pictures while the music played. When the music stopped, the children had to stop playing and raise their hands. Once a group finished the activity, the children sat down so the teacher could check if the words and pictures were correctly matched. Then, the groups switched tables, and we played the game again. A group of children reset our construction area display! I absolutely love phonetic spelling ‘aireea’ kills me. The children are keen to label things and now they have all their phase 3 sounds are taking over and really making our classroom their own. ‘dhooplo’ another winner. The boys who spend alot of their exploring time in this area were really proud to see their writing as a title! We had a really interesting meeting this week about special visitors who may appear, and one of the biggest things I took from it was only having key vocab on display in EYFS, rather than overloading chn just for the sake of having it up! Do you know what a tricky word is?❔ ✨Tricky words are not decodable using phonics and have to be learnt by sight. For example in the word ‘have’, the ‘e’ tricks us as it is silent. In the word ‘said’, the ‘ai’ makes the ‘e’ sound. ✨ Parents, why not sprinkle flour and glitter on to a baking tray at home. WHY DO CHILDREN NEED TO RHYME? Teaching rhyming words like ‘hat’, ‘cat’, ‘mat’ helps children understand how words sound similar at the end - in this example the words all have ‘at’. Building up rhyme knowledge helps to make it easier for little ones to read and write because they begin to recognise patterns in words. Phase 4 Lego Bingo! 🧱🏆😆 Pick a picture and look for the word on your bingo board. The first person to fill their board with lego people wins. 🙌🏻🤩 These phase 4 words have adjacent consonants. Managed to get a few bits set up for going back 🌺 Read and match flowers, I’ve set this up indoors but also have the flowers minus the stems for outdoors. My plan is to label mini plant pots and attach the flowers to lollipop sticks. With a tuff tray full of compost to ‘plant’ the flowers with I’m sure they’ll love it. Crack an egg to make a compound word. Simple but really effective way to practice those Spring 2 @letterssounds compound words. ✨Banana Phonics ✨ I love how much of a buzz this creates every single time I do it! Super easy way to 1, get some reading and phonics practice in especially on the run up to assessments and the screening check and 2, get them eating some fruit! The children have been busy collaging, phoning, riding, counting and more!🙌7️⃣🧸🐴🛡️❤️😀 Here are some great ideas for Sir Seven from Mrs Hakes and Miss Maher: · Provide children with a role play box for Sir Seven and include; Sir Seven outfit with a number 7 on it, 7 teddy stick puppets, 7 numbered teddy bears, a toy bed etc. · A visit from Sir Seven. We will find him fast asleep in the classroom snuggled with his seven teddies under his seven duvet. · Nursery will play hide and seek with Sir Seven ‘Oh Sir Seven! Oh Sir Seven! Where are you?’ Children will be encouraged to use prepositions to describe where Sir Seven is hiding. · In the craft area we will provide materials for children to design shields. · Table top activity putting 7 compare bears in Sir Seven’s bed. · Having horse races outside with the hobby horses. · Making Sir Seven’s horse a new rosette with the number seven on it. · Rescuing seven cats from the tree. · Using our role play fruit and veg shop to buy 7 carrots to feed Sir Seven’s horses. · Using their fine motor skills to chop and cut the veg. Monday It’s minibeast week at preschool and we got off to a great start with a bug hunt in the garden, counting minibeasts onto leaves, decorating snails and sorting minibeasts based on characteristics. At circle time the older children talked about their favourite minibeasts and took turns to fill in the tally sheet. The younger group enjoyed the Heckety Peckety Bumble Bee rhyme which focuses on listening skills and actions. . Tuff tray. Spiders and water . Duplo . Balance beam . Worm words.
