The Israeli agriculture suffered a huge setback – as their fields were left untouched due to lack of workers during this time of war. Our Federation CJA Montreal Solidarity Mission took the "farm to table" concept a step further, and volunteered at 2 locations in 1 day: In the morning, we collaborated with LEKET Israel and picked kohlrabies in the fields; then in the evening, we collaborated with SAHI organization and packed food for the needy. The @CummingsCentre, @FederationCJA and the @MuseeHolocauste de Montréal welcomed @SPVMpolice (Service de police de la Ville de Montréal) graduates on Tuesday to learn more about the Jewish community, its culture as well as what we have to offer the community at large. The SPVM team had a chance to tour the Centre, learn about our programs and services, and got to box and train alongside our members in the Workout Studio - smiles all around! The SPVM is the second largest municipal police force in Canada. After a three-year interruption as a result of the pandemic, we are thrilled that over 270 students embarked on transformative trips to Poland and Israel on both the Journey of Hope 2023 and March of the Living. We are filled with gratitude as we reflect on the incredible experiences our participants have had exploring their heritage and having the firsthand opportunity to learn from Survivors. In August 2019 we performed a piece, “We Stand Together,” a song with video projections in the background at a fundraiser event for Federation CJA. I was proud to participate- it felt very empowering and comforting to be part of both a cultural and artistic community. I could sense from the audience that the experience was powerful for them too. This number was remounted and adapted from the full original show, “A Century Songbook,” we did in June 2019, and November 2017, at the Segal Centre in Montreal. The story was an artistic archival presentation of Jewish life in Montreal spanning the last 100 years. I was at first commissioned to help with the video projections and later I also became part of the cast. I enjoy taking on different roles within an artistic project, and I also am inspired by the different ways a piece can be adjusted for various purposes. Congratulations to our co-founder Stephen Bronfman on receiving the Samuel Bronfman Medal last week from @federationcja! The Medal, now in its 50th year, is their highest honor for community service, and is named after Stephen's grandfather –– and Charles Bronfman's father. Charles received this very special honor 40 years ago, and it was deeply meaningful for him to be able to present his son with the very same medal, in celebration of their incredibly impactful lineage. 💡
Small Indulgence Leads to Huge Smiles: In Recognition of a Holocaust Survivors’ Birthday 💐 ‘Perfume always made me feel beautiful and lifted my spirits’, said Nannette . ‘I’ve dreamt of buying my favourite perfume for a long time but it was too expensive, too indulgent. Now with this beautiful gift from the Cummings Centre, I can’. Nannette explained that her children often forgot about her birthday. When she opened the beautiful hand written card, in three languages no less, she was so touched, it brought tears to her eyes. ‘Cummings Centre remembered!’ She left the Centre with a real spring in her step. These vital gift cards were delivered door-to-door and available for pick up to help them celebrate the upcoming holidays. Season both the eggs and breadcrumbs with: salt, paprika, garlic, shawarma seasoning if u have it. Dip each piece of chicken first in the egg them breadcrumbs. Place on cookie sheet covered with parchment paper which has about 1/2 cup oil. Bake at 425 for 10-13 minutes then turn over and bake another 5 minutes.

What's better than a regular cookie? A JEM cookie, of course! These branded cookies from @paradisekosher were a delicious treat for all the Workers this week. We also celebrated Tu Bishvat, a Jewish holiday that commemorates the “new year of the trees”, and all Workers also went home with seed packets to plant their own flowers - a beautiful expression of hope and renewal for the new year. Quoi de mieux qu’un biscuit ordinaire? Un biscuit JEM, bien sûr! Ces biscuits de marque du Traiteur Paradise Kosher ont été un régal délicieux pour nos Travailleurs cette semaine. Given the current circumstances, more than ever, mental health is on everyone’s mind and Federation CJA has made preserving our community’s mental health a priority by launching a community mental health awareness initiative entitled, “It’s Okay Not To Be Okay”. If you are struggling or know someone who is, we encourage you to call the community helpline and seek the guidance to feel less alone.
