New in my collection: The story of Ferrari 275 GTB no. 08011, written by @chopper_ken with splendid photography by @georgesaitas for @assouline in 2016. On the first 29 pages of this 170-page book, Ken Gross tells the story of the 275 GTB in general and of no. 08011 in particular. Essential facts are given like production numbers, different customer options and the evolution of the 275. That's all the reader needs for the moment to dive deeply into the story of that particuar chassis, which left the factory as a 2-cam, 6-carb, long-nose 1965 model. Numerous modifications were commissioned by the first owner from Sweden, including extra lights. Unfortunately, the installation of these seems to have been carried out rather unprofessionally as the car completely burnt down due to an electric fire. In what appears to be a miracle, the car was rebuilt from new parts, used parts and strange parts which were made to fit. Jeff Lotman from the United States knew nothing of that rather catastrophic history when he bought what he believed was a "solid car and a good one to restore" in 2014. Only when he had commissioned the restoration, the "dark secrets [were] revealed" and the whole enterprise took 4,300 hours of work and very extensive research and search for original parts. With his outstanding photography, George Saitas followed the restoration, and by chosing a large format of 27 x 35 cm and thick paper, Assouline has paid due tribute to his many wonderful shots. Mind you: This is not an in-depth, technically detailed, step-by-step report of the restoration as possibly Germans would do in such a book, but it's an artful tribute of the resurrection of what many Ferrari enthusiasts consider one of the most elegant cars from Maranello ever. If you love the 275 GTB, and would like to enjoy all the nice details of the car, then you should go for the book.
