Summer started yesterday! . It's been a less than delightful start to the year, weather-wise, but yesterday afternoon, we rolled Fifi's roof fully back for the first time this year and set up her air conditioning too! ... Which simply means we wound open her front vents 😜... . It was a beautiful afternoon for taking the long way home after doing the shopping, pottering back through Bonnieux, across the Claparèdes & back via Saignon... . The fields were bright with poppies, the first subtle haze of purple was visible in some lavender fields and we purred along with the sun warming our heads... . Life is rather lovely in the slow lane... . Despite her age, Fifi is still a car for all seasons and on beautiful winter days we still like to roll her roof back, pull on layers and go for a little drive... . Taking the long way home... . Why head straight home after doing some shopping, when you can take a slow drive through golden vineyards, under cloudless blue skies, .. . Yesterday was one of those days when you just wanted to be outside, and after popping into the Recyclerie for a little rootle through the shop there, Beyza & I rolled Fifis roof back and went for a little drive... . She's back at her favourite place, in amongst the lavender at Simiane La Rotonde, and is showing her best side for the session.... . The group have been painting the lavender fields this morning and are tackling this 52 year old, precocious starlet as their task before lunch ... . There's never anything enjoyable about having to go to the dentist, even if ours is excellent and very lovely, but as he is in Lourmarin, it gives us a great excuse for a longer drive in Fifi.... . So yesterday's appointment saw us take the long route there, through Bonnieux and down through the Combe de Lourmarin, before heading back through Cucuron and over the Luberon through Vitrolles.... . Of course, we had to stop in Cucuron for a little sit by L'Etang, if only to give Fifi a breather, before she pootled her way, slowly, but surely to the top of the Grand Luberon..... . Slow down and enjoy the view.... . Since we moved to Provence, getting from A to B has become a delight, not a chore... . Whether it's by bike, cycling the long-way round to see the lavender, or simply using Fifi to go shopping, pick up plants, or potter out to the local vide greniers.... . A long walk before coffee, then an even longer one this afternoon, which took us from Joucas to Murs and back.... . It's been a soggy couple of days , and we've left the bikes behind and instead done some lovely long walks and had little potters around in Fifi... . Yesterday afternoon, after a morning's walk to Roussillon, we headed up the hill to our local vineyard, to buy some of their excellent 'bag in box' wine ... A Fifi day today, bimbling about, doing the chores we had been putting off, all the things that are just so much more fun when done behind the wheel of a 2CV... . Fabric shopping for the house at the mind-boggling Tissus Grégoire, grocery shopping too and a trip up to the BMC cycling centre at La Coquillade, to see Karl, the incredible mechanic there, who had spotted a crack in Andy's bike wheel when he dropped it up for a service... . Lovely to see it so busy with people dropping bikes back in after the days hire ... To cut a very long story short, Fifi is back from the garage today after having a new (much smaller) engine and gearbox fitted .... . So we have just been out, taking her for a short drive to see how she is ... just celebrating having her back again... . This time last year we were starting to plan our trip down through France in Fifi, our wonderful old 2CV , who will be 50 this year... . We had the most incredible trip down, visiting favourite places that we have loved over the years, from Huelgoat to Coulon and Domme to the Gorges du Tarn.... . The planning kept us going through lockdown, and when we eventually did the drive it was every bit the adventure, we imagined it would be.... . We had a lovely night's stay with @frenchvillagediaries en route, drove through some beautiful parts of France and just had such fun, bimbling along at a very sedate pace, enjoying the sights, sun and views ... . We hadn't anticipated her clutch burning out in Brantome, which led to her having a week's intensive care in a garage there, whilst we continued in a hire car, before heading back to pick her up and do part 2 of the trip.... . Sorry for a lack of posts over the last few days.... . It appears that the bones in my clavicle have been religiously adhering to the social distancing rules for the last 14 weeks and I've been getting my head around the reality of not being able to cycle for a while yet! . On the plus side... The new kitchen is still progressing well and is now looking as if it has been invaded by multi-coloured many-legged beasts, with Bertrand forging ahead with wiring the lighting and fixing the new sockets. . But after days of tiling, grouting and filling walls, today Andy completed his attestation to pop to the post office (more bureaucracy to sort out) and to get some shopping.... Another spectacular autumn day in Provence... Blue skies, warm sun and a superb plant fair up at Simiane-La-Rotonde . Breakfast at the Boulangerie (it would have been rude not to) and a fuddle around the stalls with 4 big climbing plants coming back with us.... After a busy week wall-bashing we had the morning off, hopped into Fifi & headed across to the wonderful Sunday morning market at Coustellet. . When we first visited the area 30 years ago the farmer who owned the camp site we were staying on, suggested we went as he sold his produce there. . A lot has changed since our first visit, but it's still a superb farmers' market, filled with small local producers... Which guarantees you get superb fresh fruit, veg, cheese, honey, wine with the food reflecting the seasons... . What's even nicer is that the farmer, who first suggested we go, still has his stall there and we chat each time we go... Friendly, local....
