I first heard Ahmed Ismail Yusuf read an early version of “A Thorn in the Sole” at @patrickscabaret Patrick’s Cabaret back in probably 2014. Ahmed’s obvious passion for poetry and songs came through in the way his characters feverishly debated about lyrics and word choice, and the way they gushed over the power of certain poets to move the soul. Now I get to read Ahmed’s whole book while I fly from CA back to dear #minneapolis. I had a beautiful time spending an afternoon with Ahmed, talking about poetry, nostalgia, and beauty over tea at my dad’s house.
