This style of carving feels like a fun direction to explore, yet it still feels related to the faceted pots I’ve become known for. We wrapped up the spring anagama firing with a wonderful crew from @gasworksnyc on Monday. The anagama takes team work over the course of 5 days to create natural ash surfaces on a 14 foot long kiln filled with hundreds of pots. Each participant in this group worked so diligently to control this dynamic firing experience. We’re so thrilled with to have fired with them. This weekend we have @jacklynxscott coming to lead a new group of participants in a firing of our train kiln. It’s a an exciting spring here in the Hudson River Valley. Priming Day Completed! I prime all of my pieces with sprayed @amacobrent white Underglaze. As a painter would gesso a canvas, I do the same with all of my work. It will also pop the color that I lay on top. Color layering and blocking are the next steps before the bisque fire in my @skuttkilns Also, I purchased another bag of oranges from @wholefoods today because my craving for them continues.

The past three days have been a whirlwind of learning and great efforts from the @gasworksnyc crew loading the anagama with @asartoriusceramics, @sarahfoxpottery, and @daisy_goldstein. The group has been glazing and loading non stop, and managed to get the kiln candling overnight with gas before the first stokers came in early this morning. We’re thrilled to have first time wood firing amongst the crew along with some new faces and dear friends of the studio. We’ll be checking in over the next four days of firing and cooperation. Late studio night and couldn’t stop experimenting. I had made this vase with a brown stoneware from @ceramicsupplyctnjny months ago. Bisque fired, vinyl resisted and layered, then sprayed with @amacobrent Velour Black Underglaze. I like the direction this is going.
