Je suis très content de ce grand vase, j'esperait faire quelque-chose d'un peu science fiction mais en gardant une sobriété et le resultat me plait beaucoup. Il est realisé en deux pieces assemblée : une première qui forme le corps du vase ainsi que la partie interne en contre courbe au niveau des trous et une seconde en bol retourné qui viens sur le haut comptleter la moitié supérieure et dans laquelle je perce les grands trous. Cet email pleins de nuances ajoute pleins de détails à cette forme et j'ai laissé la section inférieure nue car j'aime voir le grès qui compose les pièces. ____ I'm very happy with this large vase, I was hoping to do something a bit science fiction but keeping it simple and I'm very pleased with the result. It's made in two pieces: one that forms the body of the vase as well as the inner part, which is counter-curved at the level of the holes, and a second piece in the form of an upside-down bowl that matches the top half and into which the large holes are drilled. I started taking pottery classes late last year and it was the best decision I’ve ever made !! Not only do I just enjoy attending the studio and playing a round with clay, it’s taught me not to stress if something doesn’t go right or turn out as planned. Hi there! I’m Kim Plimley, and I’m thrilled to be taking over the @greengallerylifestyle account for the day! I’m a self-taught ceramist based in Glasgow and my pottery journey began in 2019 when I signed up for a weekend beginners throwing workshop. I was instantly hooked! By the end of 2021, I took the plunge and rented a studio space on a part-time basis and since the summer of 2022 I have been selling my work online, at markets and through a growing number of stockists across the country. I feel incredibly lucky to now have a stunning studio space in my friend’s garage, which she converted after lockdown. My work focuses on functional kitchen and homewares with a contemporary yet rustic style. I'm very into babysitting my handle attachments by slow drying mugs and filling in any gaps that form between the handle and the mug. Some clays have more stable attachments and some are more fiddly. But at some point, if I want everything fired and glazed in time I have to bite the bullet and stick them in the kiln. I do a preheat first at 97*C to make sure everything is properly dry, then a slow 10hr ramp to 600*C, before a quick final ramp to 1030*C - about cone 05.5. This drives off all water and impurities, leaving the pieces strong enough to handle for glazing, but still porous enough to absorb the glaze. #bisquefiring #wheelthrownpottery

I threw a few things on the wheel this 🌧️ evening amongst some great people @still_life_studios Ferndale. The amazingly talented 😻 @clairethibodeauceramics has taught me so much over the last month 🗓️ most notably the use of water. After throwing these three and a flop 🤭 I’m happy to report that the splash pan was almost dry. This is good for many reasons, clean up and the clay can be worked more because it’s less saturated! There are a few techniques for glazing. The cup above is a combo of Brushing and Glaze Trailing. First add the design. Picking the right brush important! Large flat brushes are great for larger pieces, and small, round-tip brushes are better for patterns or designs. . Smalltalk The shop is open today, Saturday, 12 till 3. - I’ll be working on changing the recipe for the Snow white glaze, seen on the right pitcher, today. One of the rawmaterials in this recipe, has recently been removed from my suppliers stock. So if i wish to continue making one of my favourite glazes, i need to figure out how to substitute it. Working with natural rawmaterials has to be like that. They come and go. And they change from area to area. Frustrating and fascinating at the same time. Just now mostly frustrating, since it’s working under pressure, before my bucket of glaze runs dry… Luckily i like glazetesting! And share knowledge with my colleague in the same boat @larsrankkeramik 🫶
