It's this Sunday! Join us on Sunday, May 5th, from 3:00 - 5:00 pm for an opening reception for our Art Show of the Month-Pier Plein Air Painters. All are welcome! The show will feature the work of Chao-Min Liu, Simon Kwon, Stephanie Reiter, Sunhee Chung, Susan Lais Hosteler, Dan Lukens, Joel Mitnick, Sheila Lu, Lance Patrouch, Kyoung Sug Lee, Yea Chung, Chong Sun Oh, and John Park, and will be on display throughout the month of May. The group, Pier Plein Air Painters, originally founded in Paterson, New Jersey, in 2017, disbanded during the Covid pandemic, but is now back in full swing with headquarters in Piermont, New York. About 22 members are enlisted. Most of the members have years of experience and are passionate about their art. The members meet twice weekly at various locations. Occasionally, a model is used in a landscape setting. It is a friendly group and welcomes new members. There are no membership fees. TEARDROP, an intervention The first eyes appeared 540 million years ago. And the first known organism to demonstrate the leap from light-sensitive receptors to complex eyes was the trilobite, which left records of its evolutionary impact from approximately 540 million years ago. The orbs of these early arthropods more closely resembled the compound eyes of modern insects, with multiple lenses, as opposed to the single lens-to-retina camera-style eye built into humans. We’re starting a thread of posts featuring our employees and their current favorite art supplies! It’ll let you get to know us a little better and show you some inspiration for experimenting with new things in your own art. I’ve been thoroughly enjoying working in a high quality watercolor sketchbook using Holbein Acryla Gouache, watercolor, dip pens, nice inks, Polychromos colored pencils and alcohol markers. Often, I use all these things in the same sketch I’m working on! Our Gansai Tambi watercolors have been my staple, as they have so many great colors and their consistency is softer than other watercolor pans. Noodler’s anti-feathering black ink is a special ink we carry that stays exactly where you put it without feathering out (even on bad paper), and that’s been my go-to ink when I need black. All the materials I’ve shown here can be used layered together in all kinds of ways!
