Today's Day/morning start (in a way) ●Got up way too early for my personal liking (more of a night owl and early mornings and I don't really mix that well 😅 sorry babe for not being a morning person) ●Got ready for work and put stuff in the car, including my two morning drinks (Glow drink and Shake) that I had prepared the night before so as not to wake anyone else up in the household ●Went out to take River's rug off of him (me with him on the ground is a photo I took a few weeks back) ●Dropped partner off at work (he drove to work, I drove rest of the way to my work whilst slowly finishing my drinks) ●Got back home and fed my 2 horses and put River's rug on him again whilst we wait for feed to soak up. 💤 𝑰𝒔 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒉𝒐𝒓𝒔𝒆’𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒅 𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒆𝒏𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉? 💤 While horses do sleep standing up a lot, they really do need some proper REM sleep every night too which can only be achieved by laying down. Rest is super important for our horses, both mentally and physically! For your horse to really get some proper rest, they need a comfy bed that is big enough for them to lay down. And comfy enough for them to truly relax - just like us needing a good mattress! Studies have actually shown that horses favour big straw beds over other bedding options, however, this doesn’t mean that other bedding isn’t enticing for a good nights sleep for our beloved ponies - as long as it’s done right! A good test for size that I find very useful is to lay your horses rug out flat over their bed - can they lay down properly and not be on the bare floor/rubber matting? Remember to account for the neck, head and legs! Another good test but this time for depth is stand in the middle of your horses bed and drop to your knees (not slowly!). Can you do that comfortably without hurting your knees? Because if you can’t… your 500kg ish horse can’t either! Casper takes his duvet days very seriously! Afternoon naps are a must!! 💤 Unfortunately, due to the heavy rain this morning, the fields were closed for the day so the ponies are all tucked into bed on our yard for a duvet day. TBH, Casper couldn’t give two flying hoots, as long as he has food he is happy! I obviously prefer him to go out because of his right hind/stifle needing the movement but I just make sure he gets hand walked around the yard for a while to loosen him up, stretch his legs and give him a change of scenery. 🦄🐴 An afternoon that started with mild panic as he was the only one laying down, in the field, in the wet, on his own, in the cold. I think one of the biggest disservices we can do to our horses is not trust them. It’s not their fault you don’t have the understanding to communicate with them. Horsemanship is a lifelong learning process that can benefit both you and your horse. Soooo… Buying a @reolinkcams for Casper’s stable is simultaneously one of the best and worst things I’ve ever done! 🙈 I absolutely love that I can keep check on him and have peace of mind that he is ok (and see cute videos of him laying down)! ❤️ BUT… I have become that serial stalker pony mum who is always watching him! 🤣 Disclaimer - I was not watching him at gone midnight, the clip was saved in the cloud storage for me to see this morning! 😁 Also, so nice to see that he gets himself comfy on his @bedsoftandhaysoft bedding!
