Does exercise change your gut microbiome? A longitudinal study followed 19 sedentary women with overweight. The researchers had them do 6 weeks of endurance exercise. The team found an increase in the “good” bacteria A. muciniphila and a decrease in Proteobacteria, which are considered “bad” gut bugs. According to the authors of a review that looked into exercise and the gut microbiome, “longer-duration or higher-intensity aerobic training” might be needed to create substantial changes to your gut microbiome. They also write that the microbiomes of people with healthy weights might be more responsive to exercise. Day 27 Done Todays food was so good. Nothing like visiting family and being at the table and enjoying the company and the food. Although not my normal routine so worth spending time with those we love. Breakfast was two pieces of toast one with crunchy peanut butter and the other with home made cherry rhubarb jam, some fresh strawberries, orange juice and coffee. Lunch was a bun with some ham and chicken, cheese and spinach on it, fresh veggies, yogurt and orange and tea. Nothing like a roast dinner of roast beef, seasoned roast potatoes and carrots, and salad. And for dessert homemade lemon meringue pie. Always water throughout the day and ggg. Movement today was a walk outside under a beautiful sky in a beautiful setting with the cows and the mountains. Peri menopause can creep up on you without warning ⛔️ It did me. Two years ago I thought I wasn’t affect by it - in fact I knew hardly anything about it. I didn’t know peri menopause can last up to ten years. I didn’t know actual menopause is a year after your last period. I didn’t know MHT were patches and tablets. I didn’t know lots of my friends were already on this. I didn’t know my mood swings, anxiety, insomnia, joint aches, body inflammation, acne and general loss of mojo for life was because of my hormones - or lack of them. Why didn’t my doctor talk to me about this during my 40’s when I sat in his/her room explaining about my symptoms above? Since the penny dropped and I realised this wasn’t just a case of me getting old and there’s an actual reason for my symptoms - I’ve educated myself, got help, raised awareness and owned this whole chapter of my life in a totally different way. You don’t have to give up. You don’t have to feel like shit. Self care is essential. Having a voice is essential. Start by going back to basics: 1. Sleep 2. Nutrition 3. Peeps I am the most compliant patient out there. I will do what I am told if my medical team advises it. So why do I forget to take my supplements? Those are not “technically “ prescribed by my physician but they are highly encouraged. Let me tell ya that I missed my Happy Juice and Mood+ for about three days and holy $h!t did I feel it. I’ve always been interested in the microbiome of dogs because understanding that has helped me help soooo many dogs. But I’ve recently become interested in learning more about the microbiome of humans ie me! I caught this new show on Netflix yesterday called “Hack your health: the secrets of your gut” and it was so interesting! The microbes in your gut are responsible for so many things you may not expect. Like being overweight or being depressed or anxious. One of the ways they recommend increasing the diversity of microbes in your gut is by eating a ton of fruit and veg. And not just the same things over and over but a variety of 20-30 per week! Since my 3 week restricted diet ended today, my next mission is to take on the 20-30 variety every week. Today we were able to eat 14 different veg, fruit and herbs! Cantaloupe Strawberries Bananas Carrots Turnips Parsnips Rosemary Arugula Garlic Onions Spinach Purple Cabbage Green Lettuce Red Lettuce And we’ve challenged ourselves to grab a new fruit and veg to try every time we go for groceries. Jesus turns set backs into set-ups. Two years ago I was barely a month out after having a total colectomy, my husband was 600 miles away in the middle of his first (there would be another one later that year) 6-week stem cell transplant after being diagnosed with cancer and I was riding the single mom bus with 3 young boys. I was forced to acknowledge that try as I might, I was not in control. But I could control my response. I could choose to learn from my situation and let it make me better. I found a way to both improve my family’s health…and our financial situation so no matter what life throws at us….the two areas that cause most people relationship trouble (health and finances)…were rock solid. Today I feel better than I did in my 20s and I’m not on a single prescription drug. Do not take your health for granted.
