The Monastery of Hozoviotissa in Amorgos is the second oldest in Greece built in 1017 and renovated 1088, built by Alexius Comnenus I. It is literally hanging on the cliff side 300 m above the sea. The monastery was created as an ode (poem) to the Grace of Panagia, known as the Virgin Mary, which is the patron saint of the island. The icon is carried around to all the villages on the island every year. A perfect blend of nature and the beauty of man’s creation, the monastery symbolizes man’s tribute to the Holy Mother. Built into the face of a cliff, it provides a breathtaking view of the sparkling blue waters of the Aegean Sea. It is with no doubt, the pride of Amorgos, with its pristine walls lined with portraits of monks and other leaders, the smell of incense and numerous little treasures. The monks, who act as guardians of this architectural marvel, serving psimeni raki (a local liqueur) and loukoumi. The current outer look of the monastery is the result of various changes that happened through time. The building is 40m high and 5m width has 8 stories that develop in a larger width utilizing functional wall recesses of rock. There is a labyrinth interior with the church, the cells and the various auxiliary rooms forming a set that with resourcefulness and usability meets the needs of the monastic brotherhood. Παναγία Αμοργού Χοζοβιώτισσα VOL II Iστορία Σύμφωνα με τη παράδοση, η Ιερά Μονή πήρε το όνομά της κατόπιν μετονομασίας των “Χοζιβίτισσα” ή “Κοζιβίτισσα”, από το τοπωνύμιο Χοζιβά ή Κοζιβά στους Αγίους Τόπους, σήμερα στην περιοχή Wadi Qilt της Ιεριχούς. Στα χρόνια της Εικονομαχίας, τον 8ο και 9ο αιώνα η εικόνα για να προστατευθεί, μεταφέρθηκε με βάρκα από τους μοναχούς, φθάνοντας διά θαλάσσης στην παραλία της Αγ. Άννας. Έπειτα, αποφασίζεται η ανέγερση της Ιεράς Μονής, δίχως αρχικώς να ληφθούν υπόψιν οι δύσκολίες και αντιξοότητες που υπήρχαν, όπως το ιδιαίτερα δύσβατο, απότομο, βραχώδες και αρκετά επικίνδυνο σημείο κατασκευής της. Το σημείο επιλέχθηκε εξαιτίας της ομοίωσής του με τον αντίστοιχο στα Χοζηβά της Παλαιστίνης, ενώ αρχικώς η ανέγερση της Ιεράς Μονής ξεκίνησε χαμηλότερα σε απόσταση περίπου 260 μέτρων απο τη σημερινή της θέση. Όμως, οι κοπιώδεις και επίπονες εργασίες που ξεκινούσαν την διάρκεια της ημέρας, το βράδυ όλα γκρεμίζονταν. Στο θέαμα του γεγονότος και της απογοήτευσης εκείνων που εργάζονταν για τη κατασκευή της Μονής, ο αρχιμάστορας παρακάλεσε την Παναγία να του δώσει ένα σημάδι για το που ήθελε να χτιστεί η Ιερά Μονή. Την επόμενη μέρα βρέθηκαν όλα τα εργαλεία- μαζί με το σμίλι με το ψάθινο ζεμπίλι – καρφωμένα στο σημείο που βρίσκεται σήμερα το καμπαναριό! (Σήμερα τα εργαλεία φυλάσσονται εντός του ιερού χώρου της Μονής). Φθάνουμε έτσι στο 1088 μ.Χ επί Αλεξίου Α. Κομνηνού, όπου με εντολή του θα κτισθεί η Ιερά Βασιλική Σταυροπηγιακή Μονή Αγ. Ιωάννη Θεολόγου στο νησί της Πάτμου και παράλληλα η επιτυχή ανακαίνηση και ολοκλήρωση της Ιεράς Μονής με τη σημερινή της μορφή. Μάλιστα ορίσθηκε οι Ιερές Μονές Πάτμου και Αμοργού να θεωρηθούν από τότε ως αδελφές, “κατοχυρώνοντας” την υπόστασή τους. Η Μονή Χοζοβιώτισσας περιήλθε στην Ελλαδική εκκλησία και στην Ιερά Μητροπόλη Θήρας, Αμοργού και νήσων. Η Παναγία Χοζοβιώτισσα της Αμοργού γιορτάζει στης 21 Νοεμβρίου ανήμερα των Εισοδίων της Θεοτόκου, ετησίως. Μοναστήρι Χοζοβιώτισσας Αμοργός VOL. I Η Παναγία Χοζοβιώτισσα Αμοργού αποτελεί το κορυφαίο αξιοθέατο του νησιού! Χαρακτηρίζεται ως «κόσμημα» του Αιγαίου και αποτελεί το σπουδαιότερο θρησκευτικό μνημείο της Αμοργού. Κτίσθηκε τον ένατο αιώνα (812 – 813 μ.Χ.) και ανακαινίσθηκε το 1088 μ.Χ. από τον Βυζαντινό αυτοκράτορα Αλέξιο Α. Κομνηνό. Δίνει την αίσθηση λαξευμένης, μέσα σε απόκρημνα βράχια, Ιεράς Μονής, ορατής μόνο δια του πελάγους. Δεν είναι τυχαίο ότι οι Αμοργιανοί τη θεωρούν ως τη προστάτιδα του νησιού τους. Έχει μήκος σαράντα και πλάτος πέντε μέτρα ενώ αποτελείται οκτώ επίπεδα – ορόφους. Στην είσοδο της, η σκάλα ενώνεται στη κυριολεξία με το βράχο και θα σας οδηγήσει στο τέταρτο όροφο. Τα κελιά της Ιεράς Μονής Χοζοβιώτισσας φτάνουν τα δεκαπέντε (15) ενώ οι χώροι της αριθμούνται σε εβδομήντα δύο (72). Τα κελιά των μοναχών η τράπεζα, τα μαγειρεία, οι φούρνοι, οι αποθήκες, οι στέρνες και τα πηγάδια, τοποθετούνται “σφηνωμένα” μέσα στον φυσικό βράχο που μεταμορφώνεται σε λειτουργικό οικοδόμημα λαϊκής αρχιτεκτονικής. Σήμερα στην Ιερά Μονή Παναγίας Χοζοβιώτισσας βρίσκονται τρείς μοναχοί, ενώ στο καμαροσκέπαστο εκκλησάκι βρίσκονται και οι ζωντανές μαρτυρίες της τοπικής προφορικής παράδοσης για την καταγωγή της εικόνας από τα Χόζοβα (ή το Χόζοβο) της Παλαιστίνης: οι δύο ενεπίγραφες εικόνες της Παναγίας της Χοζοβιώτισσας ή ΧΩΖΗΒΙΤΙCΑΣ, και η σιδερένια “σμίλη” του αρχιμάστορα, ζωντανό σημάδι της διήγησης “για την ακριβή θέση που όρισε η Παναγία να κτιστεί ο ναός της”. Stavolta è tutto in ordine (tranne l’ultima bonus pic): 1) Relax nell’isola disabitata di #Nikouria 🏖️ 2) Vista dall’alto delle favolose insenature di #AgiaAnna 🌊 3) I 267 scalini ripidi che portano al famoso Monastero di #Hozoviotissa 😰 4) La clamorosa vista dalla cima dell’Antico Monastero della Vergine Maria di Hozoviotissa ⛪️🇬🇷 5) La bonus pic: in primis ci tengo a precisare che non sono stato affatto costretto da @beatricearfe a salire 267 scalini ripidi sotto al sole, tra l’altro per fortuna come potete notare non si sudava per nulla proprio. Poi il cordiale custode dell’imperdibile Monastero ci ha tenuto a dirmi che in pantaloncino non era possibile entrare, dunque mi ha gentilmente prestato dei bei lunghi pantaloni alla moda, freschi ed incredibilmente puliti, ma soprattutto mai indossati da nessun altro, per entrare nel giusto mood del luogo di culto Cristiano Ortodosso. Inoltre devo dire che il mio stato d’animo non era assolutamente turbato dal caso #GabriVeiga 🙏🏻 PS. The Monastery of Hozoviotissa in Amorgos is the second oldest in Greece built in 1017 and renovated 1088, built by Alexius Comnenus I. It is literally hanging on the cliff side 300 m above the sea. The monastery was created as an ode (poem) to the Grace of Panagia, known as the Virgin Mary, which is the patron saint of the island. The icon is carried around to all the villages on the island every year. A perfect blend of nature and the beauty of man’s creation, the monastery symbolizes man’s tribute to the Holy Mother. Built into the face of a cliff, it provides a breathtaking view of the sparkling blue waters of the Aegean Sea. It is with no doubt, the pride of Amorgos, with its pristine walls lined with portraits of monks and other leaders, the smell of incense and numerous little treasures. The monks, who act as guardians of this architectural marvel, serving psimeni raki (a local liqueur) and loukoumi. The current outer look of the monastery is the result of various changes that happened through time. The building is 40m high and 5m width has 8 stories that develop in a larger width utilizing functional wall recesses of rock. There is a labyrinth interior with the church, the cells and the various auxiliary rooms forming a set that with resourcefulness and usability meets the needs of the monastic brotherhood. It is an amazing ancient building, literally excavated on a vertical rick, perched 300m above the grand bleu (aperanto galazio I came back here after 36 years. Die bedeutendste Sehenswürdigkeit auf Amorgos ist das Kloster Chozoviotissa (Παναγία Χοζοβιώτισσα). 300 m hoch im Felsen und in einer landschaftlich reizvollen Lage hat Hozoviotissa mehr als tausend Jahre Geschichte überstanden. Eine fromme Frau aus Chosovo in Palästina soll eine Ikone ins Meer geworfen haben, um sie vor der Zerstörung zu retten. In der Bucht von Agia Anna auf Amorgos sei die Muttergottesikone – nach ihrem Herkunftsort Panagia Chozoviotissa genannt – an Land gespült worden sein. Das Kloster wurde, einer Überlieferung zu Folge danach von Mönchen aus Palästina gegründet. Seither ist es ein Wallfahrtsort. Denn kein Geringerer als der Evangelist Lukas selbst, soll die Marien-Ikone des Klosters eigenhändig gemalt haben. Die Anreise zum Kloster ist nicht ganz einfach. Wer mit einem Schiff im Süden der Insel ankommt, muss zunächst nach Amorgos Stadt fahren. Danach geht es weitere zwei Kilometer auf einer hoch gelegenen Küstenstraße zum Parkplatz unterhalb des Klosters. Das Gebäude wirkt von dort aus wie eine Vision aus einer anderen Welt.
