33 years ago today Abdorrahman Boroumand was assassinated in the entrance to his apartment in Paris by agents of the Islamic Republic of Iran. No one has ever been brought to justice for the murder. A few months later his friend and colleague Chapur Bakhtiar was assassinated. The Islamic Republic continues to target and assassinate its opponents. Ochlik died in the February 2012 bombardment of Homs during the 2011–2012 Syrian uprising. Rémi Ochlik was born in 1983 in Thionville and lived in the area around Florange, Moselle, in the Lorraine region of northeastern France. As a child he had ambitions of becoming an archaeologist, but after he was given an Olympus OM1 camera by his grandfather, Ochlik gravitated toward his interest in photography. 19 mars 2023 - Six mois déjà… le 16 septembre 2022, trois jours après avoir été interpellée par la police des mœurs iranienne pour « port de vêtements inappropriés », la Kurde iranienne Mahsa Amini décède en garde à vue. La mort de la jeune femme de 22 ans déclenche alors une protestation historique dans tout le pays, réprimée dans le sang par le pouvoir. Depuis le début des manifestations, plus de 22 000 personnes, dont une part très importante de mineurs, ont été arrêtées, torturées, violées, tuées. Aveux obligatoires - Le 15 mars, les cinq femmes qui avaient dansé, en crop top et cheveux au vent, dans une video devenue virale sur les réseaux sociaux lors de la Journée internationale des droits des femmes, ont été arrêtées et contraintes d'enregistrer une vidéo dans laquelle elles expriment leurs regrets. À Paris, des marches hebdomadaires sont organisées pour visibiliser le mouvement auprès de la population et interpeller les pouvoirs publics et gouvernements européens. En France, le en-même-temps du grand communicant de l'Elysée, synonyme de louvoiement, a là aussi, braqué la diaspora. 🧿Jin, Jîyan, Azadî / Woman, Life, Freedom 🧿 Stand with Kurdish Women / Stand with the Women of Iran 🧿 Leaflet in the style of an Ottoman/Persian miniature. Transcription of the text in the leaflet: A simple guide to the protests in Iran: On the 13th of September 2022, 22-year-old Mahsa Amini (who’s real Kurdish name was Jina Amini) was arrested by Iran’s morality police in Tehran for breaching the severe dress code by not wearing her hijab properly. Three days later, she died in hospital; her family was told that she had died of a heart attack, however women who were detained with her said that she had been severely beaten, and died as a result of physical abuse by the police. Her death sparked a wave of protests across Iran (and internationally through the diaspora), with women burning their hijabs and cutting their hair as a form of protest, chanting the Kurdish slogan “Jin, Jîyan, Azadî”, meaning “Woman, Life, Freedom”. The demands of the protestors are not only for the end of the mandatory hijab law, but also for broader changes in systemic discrimination (e.g the economic crisis in Iran pushing a disproportionate amount of women into margins of poverty, and a lack of protection against abuse and femicides). Those who attend the protests in Iran to fight for their fundamental human rights face arrests, work bans and executions; at least 18,000 protestors have been arrested in Iran since September, and at least 470 people were killed. The revolution in Iran needs to be approached as an intersectional issue. Women’s rights and demands for freedom are at the center of the revolution, but the revolution also has to do with the severe political oppression and economic deprivation of Iranians. There is also a Kurdish focus in the revolution having to do with the specific oppression of Kurds as a minority in Iran. Kurds are the largest ethnic group of people in the world who don’t have a state of their own. They are spread across four countries in the Middle East as a minority (Iran, Turkey, Iraq and Syria). On January 8, 2023, a protest was held in Berlin, Germany, at Pariser Platz to honor the victims of the Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 tragedy. On January 8, 2020, the Boeing 737-800 aircraft operated by Ukraine International Airlines and flying from Tehran to Kyiv was shot down by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) near Tehran, resulting in the deaths of all 176 passengers and crew on board. The protest in Berlin served as a reminder of this tragedy and a call for justice for the victims and their loved ones. Furthermore, the protesters emphasized the importance of never forgetting this event and advocating for accountability and change. @joern.oltmann held a speech at the protest. Oltmann is a politician with the political party Alliance 90/The Greens. He has been the fourth District Mayor of the Berlin district of Tempelhof-Schöneberg since November 17, 2021.
