We’ve given this incredible looking stallion the name Ben•Isa. In Shoshone language, the definition of ‘Alone’ is Ben … and Isa means ‘Wolf.’ We want to honor and remember the young wolf pup who was subjected to severe pain, torture and brutally killed a few weeks ago. As for me, not a day goes by that I don’t think about the suffering of that animal and what it endured for hours and hours at the hands of a certain psychopath in Daniel, Wyoming. By naming this gray pinto mustang Ben•Isa, he will carry on the memory of that innocent wolf who deserved to live and run free in the wild. This week, we were honored to take a group of 16 staff members and multidisciplinary team members to the 1st Annual Carolinas' Seaside Symposium on Child Abuse in Myrtle Beach, SC. We joined the @childrensadvocacycentersofnc and the South Carolina Network of Children's Advocacy Centers in some crucial training, with the goal of "Changing the Tide." It has been inspiring, to say the least, to be surrounded by other professionals and leaders in our field and to know we're not alone in our fight to prevent child abuse and educate our community. #betheirvoice 💙

HELP NEEDED: Our food store is running low, we can squeeze the dog pellets till Monday!! We have 70 animals in our care at present, 23 cats, 13 kittens, 27 dogs and 7 puppies all relying on us to care for them. Last week alone we had 49 animals handed over to us and as an SPCA, we cannot turn any animal away or say we are full. “With so many animals coming into our shelter, we constantly need donations of dog food and treats.” We are a non-profit, which means we rely solely on the generosity of donors and supporters to operate. Kyrylo Sakalo was abducted to a camp in Russian-occupied Crimea. “We were yelled at as soon as I got off the bus. I immediately wanted to go back.” He was only 11 at the time. Many children at the camp were told their families no longer wanted them. Others were told that they couldn’t leave. Kyrylo had water thrown on him by staff at the camp to wake him up in the morning. “Don’t remind me!” Since the start of the invasion, Russian forces have kidnapped children from Ukrainian territory with the intention of turning them against their homeland. May 1 is International Podenco Day. The day was created to bring awareness to the abuse and mistreatment of this breed. When no longer needed, the dogs are either abandoned - sometimes after being beaten or with their legs broken - or killed in a variety of torturous ways, like poisoning or drowning. Baby name announcement and an update I think I forgot to share. Ok so if you remember last week, new mama Soda (fka Buff) was assisted by sister/doula/birthcoach (Sonia) in delivering her babies. She had 4 and then tried to deliver a 5th one but sadly she was stillborn. But! We were then contacted by someone who had a singleton kitten, just a couple of days old, and since we had newborns and a world class, award winning double mom team, we thought we’d see if Soda would accept this little tortie girl. And she did! She nestled right in as one of the bunch! And everyone is fat and happy and nursing and gaining. Sister moms are doing great keeping everyone clean and appropriately snuggled. Names: our foster parents wanted to name this group and since they’re doing all the work, they should do the honors. Please welcome our Manga crew of Soda and Sonia fame. Meet Rhea. I came across her yesterday evening while driving through my neighborhood. She was lying in the gutter looking dismal, given up on life. I saw immediately she was extremely emaciated, had green discharge coming from her eyes and mouth. I threw my vehicle in park, grabbed my bite gloves, a carrier and headed her direction. She mustered up the strength to stand and gave me a weak, raspy meow. , I was easily able to coax her into the carrier. She's not feral. She's an extremely friendly, sweet older gal. I took her home and upon further examination saw she was extremely emaciated, dehydrated, covered in Fleas, dirt, nasal and eye discharge, could barely stand. I immediately contacted Kyle Kirkland of Kirkland Foundation and we had a chat about Rhea, the decision was made to take her to the Vet this morning. I started immediate nutrition and fluids for her. She is getting the works this morning, labs, fluids, flea bath, amd what ever else necessary to get the full scope of her condition. Kirkland Foundation never hesitates to jump into action when these precious, voiceless angels need help. Donations go to directly to the care of these cats and tax deductible. TOMMY needs a foster home ASAP!!! "This is breaking all our hearts. Tommy hit the lottery with Jackie and Jason. They love him. He loves them. He liked the visiting kids, loves people. He tolerates the goats and other animals with no problem. But, for some reason he hates the dogs. Dogs that are used to cats and animals. The dogs don't bother Tommy but Tommy attacks the dogs. Those of you that know Jackie's dogs know how sweet and big they are. They put up with all the animals and Tommy but, stupid Tommy refuses to put up with them. When he just sees them he goes on attack mode. They don't have to even be near him. They have tried hard to do the introduction right but Tommy turns into taz when he just sees them. We can't expect the dogs to not eventually fight back. So far they have been kind to Tommy but Tommy is relentless and mean with them. Thats why I say dumbass cat ruined it for himself.
