"It was crazy hot on our sheep trip. That made meat care really tricky and stressful. We were just expecting cool temperatures overnight or wind to help help cool the meat down. All we got was hot buggy weather. So our only option was to hustle the meat off the mountain, then bag the meat in dry bags and submerge the meat in the river. We filled the dry bags with rocks, set them in a back eddy, and tied them off to a tree. Then placed the meat under floor of the rafts. The rafts are self-bailing so river water flushed over the meat all day. We used the smell check to monitor along the way. Stock wrap with cheek riser and 12 gauge cartridge loops. Fully lined. Some quick notes on design: 1. Grommets look really nice and help protect the holes from stretch, but I always worry about the backside scratching up the stock. On this I tried an idea, using the lining as a guard between the grommets and the stock. The only thing touching the stock is the grain side of the lining and thread. 2. I didn’t use our moose leather to line this. While the moose leather is great for slings, grit can get caught in the fibres, which again can scratch up a stock. This is lined with veg tan, grain side out, for a smooth lining. 3. The cheek riser is adding about an inch of rise and makes it much quicker to line up my sights on this set up. I’m working on a wrap design for our CORE collection that is a happy medium between this and the very simple one I did a couple weeks ago.
