These fabricators never seem to disappoint me when it comes time to building these chassis. Met a new buddy Nick who had this 1953 International R110 long box that he built over the course of three years in his garage. Yes it’s been placed on a dodge dakota chassis and has a 12 valve Cummins powering it but this is one of the better builds I’ve seen in person. Here is a little triple diamond fact for some of you. The triple diamond logo was first introduced from International Harvester Company back in 1923 on their S series trucks. This logo design replaced the “International” from the previous generation farm equipment. By 1938 with the introduction of the KB trucks, the International Harvester Company landed on the larger triple diamond with a blue diamond standing out strong in front. Although it’s up for debate on what the triple diamond signified whether that is for the three devision International had in the day with “agriculture”, “trucks”, and “appliances” or diamonds were the style at the time. Ultimately in 1953 with the introduction of the R series trucks, the triple diamond logo was replaced with the more well known “man on tractor” IH approach. They changed to this more simplistic design where international harvester started their roots in agricultural equipment. My buddy’s father was telling me that back in the 80’s he had loaded up with everything he had to his name in the back of his old International and moved off to California to start a family. Little repair work on the original gauges for the 54 R120. Since nobody makes replacement gauge glass for the L,R,S trucks, I had to get a little creative. A 1920’s German wall clock has the same 4.500” diameter and curvature as the other gauges. Just yet another example of why I like to do these things. For #trailertuesday, here’s some pictures of the trailers in the Beck Trucking fleet. First is a 30 foot Wilson stock trailer purchased new by my great-grandpa Howard Beck in 1945 along with an International K-7 (Slide 3, center). Slide 4 is the flatbed trailer purchased in the late 1930s that had an attachable stock rack. These trailers were used to haul stuff back and forth from Ree Heights, SD to Sioux Falls, SD, until the 1970s. We’re hoping to bring at least one of these trailers back home this summer and start the rebuild process. You know where this is going! This Sun Tach is just old school cool! Going to be working with @bareknucklebinder and @thesurfbinder on reviving this old tachometer for the 54 R120. If I like this enough, maybe I’ll go ahead and get one for the 55 R120 as well. Sure the easiest way to get the transmitter working is to send it off and digitize it to work with the modern systems but having the ability to run it just the way it did back in the day makes it much cooler! Today was a great day! Picked up this 1973 International 1210. This rancher and his wife bought it new in '73 at the old Buick dealership on Main St to be their "luxury goin' to town truck." They were very proud of how well it was maintained and stored and they should be! This gem was ordered with all the bells and whistles from the dealer and has only one rust spot in the bed. The truck came with title, 2 sets of original keys, 2 line set tickets, owners manual, registration card, am/FM radio user guide, etc. all kept in a safety deposit box at the bank. This thing is a time capsule. It's been sitting since 2004. Excited to get it cleaned up and running.

With warmer weather on the horizon, it won’t be long until I put the 55 R120 out of storage. For now I have to clear the parts pile out of the bed of the 54 R120 to be able to start doing work on the driveline. New (to me) transmission is in and looking at switching out the best parts to make the rig more reliable. Electrical components are slowly coming in as I am creating a functional harness with off the shelf parts. I have a layout finalized and what parts are needed. Time for a positive rant! Before I start, please post any tags or details for the trucks pictured as I have not researched years or specifications. Great industrial customs and collectibles pictured! On to the “vlog” I absolutely love the trend of heavy payload collectibles. As a child I was absolutely more fascinated by the trains, garbage trucks, fire trucks and highway trucks than passenger cars. If you remember, not all cars produced between 1959 and 1974 were “muscle cars”! Just a 5 percent special ordered, factory documented and world accepted “cars built with the purpose of going fast” fit the bill regardless of their chassis. But in that day all farm trucks and “industrial trucks” went out of service without the forethought of future collectibility. The proportions for a custom industrial sized classic show truck are evolving in front of our eyes. It is the latest and most expanding and interesting niche of our hobby. Hopefully now that I have brought that to your attention you notice it along with whatever era of classic car or truck that you follow, own or desire. Rant over.
