Happy Saturday! I hope this finds you well! Those you of you who read my musings know I have denied my nature most of my life. Truthfully it goes a lot deeper than that. In many ways I have punished myself for feeling different than others. It was unintentional + inadvertent, only something I realized in the last several years, + nothing harmful. But I confess, because I think I am in good company. Many of us deny our true natures for one reason or another. For me, being an empath is the only way I know how to be. It is further complicated by other factors that don’t need elaboration here — but trust my path has not been clear, + with no one to lean on, I felt no choice but to seek solace inwards. My level of self-awareness rivals the next. I can feel people coming towards me a mile away. It is partly intuitive + partly on some level subconscious — like a sixth sense or perhaps a hyper awareness to minute vibes + energy. You might think it a superpower, but honestly there is a cost. Everywhere I go, I attract people. Total strangers walk up to me + speak to me as if we were old friends. I work to keep it a blessing, but I feel + hear confessions any time I go out. Some are overt, literally people telling me the weight they carry. Others walk close but don’t speak + without a better word, their confession leeches from them. If I stand too close for too long, or look into their eyes, it is like a download of information that overwhelms me. Note: Crowds of people consume me, unless I am leading. Thankfully, I learned early I am better on stage than amongst the audience. Why this now? This year I am embracing who I am. No longer will I deny my nature or cull the growing crowd who needs to be heard. I have always known the only path is to lead with love. Healthy boundaries are important, but so is breathing + accepting who we are + not denying opportunities out of fear. Again, why write this now? I encourage you to embrace who you are + live authentically. This is our chance to get it right. Sending you love, light x LAL ♥️ ➰

I hope this finds you well + hoping you are having a great start to your new year! ♥️ Thank you again for all the love, support + encouragement you all threw my way last year!! I am blessed!! Word of Intention So apparently resolutions are out! Who knew? According to “experts,” resolutions imply that something is wrong + needs to be rectified. Instead, making a “desire statement,” is suggested. An example of a desire statement is, “ I am healthy + happy.” “I want to…” Now, pls note these statements are meant to focus on the positive + are to be made in present tense. It is counterintuitive to make a corrective or negative statement. For example, “ I want to become fit,” or “I want to become happy.” The first implies you are not healthy, + the second implies you are not happy. Once you have decided upon a “desire statement,” it is recommended to share this with someone. To further solidify your intent. Once you have taken that step, it is encouraged that you find your “word of intention.” This is a symbolic word that speaks to your overall dream/want + is supported with gratitude. So remember to take a moment or two to be grateful for all that is going your way. Doing so, allows us to ground our energy into what we would like to call into our future. Example of Words of Intention include self-love, abundance, peace, hope, wonder, truth, courage, creativity, compassion, … this list goes on + on. Curious as to what I came up with? Altho I would undoubtedly benefit from any number of focus words, there is no real surprise that I came up with Love + Connection. Those words encompass living with courage + God, putting Love out there without fear — as well as finding authentic, meaningful connection with others. Honestly, I like this idea better than resolutions. We can all benefit from a bit of positivity thrown our way, especially when it comes from ourselves! What do you think? Are you in? Happy Friday! We made it! I hope this finds you well! 💗 Reach Higher, Ground Deeper I love balance poses in Yoga. Blessed with natural flexibility, stretching poses no real challenge but balancing does! My teacher saves balance poses for last, like leading a horse with a carrot! Lol. I have discovered that each practice brings something new; a new challenge, a new breakthrough, a new revelation . . . One day I was struggling with Vrkshasana, (the relatively simple Tree pose) + noticing my wobbling effort, my teacher offered “reach higher.” It didn’t make sense but I did as she suggested, + you know what? It worked. I haven’t stopped thinking about (+ applying) it ever since. Pushing myself out of expectation directly stirs my need to ground into the familiar. Does that make sense? Whenever I am struggling with work, or having a particularly bad day, I remind myself to push through the dark to get to the light. And, often to do that I have to dig deep into who I am, my beliefs, my support system. When I do, the universe responds + things become clearer, are achieved — I am rewarded. So when things are tough + you feel lost, overwhelmed, or are floundering — think of me, wobbling in my Tree pose + encourage yourself to dig deep + reach higher. I promise, your effort will be rewarded! Well, those are my two cents worth this morning. I hope they encourage you to strive for your goals, no matter what wrangle, resistance or difficulties come your way. I know you can do it! I believe in you!! Sending you love, sending you light! The resounding clang of disconnect rings loud + alienates the body, heart + soul. Since I was a child, I have always maintained that the NEED TO BE HEARD is the ultimate human condition. That is one of the reasons Psychology was a natural fit with my studies. In some form + in varying degrees, we all want, crave, need to be heard. When we are heard, we are rewarded with the overwhelming feeling of connection + claim (another familiar theme if you keep up with my love notes.) Happy Friday! We made it! I hope this finds you well! The Best Gift of All Yes, the season is upon us as they say! Being a wayward empath seeking her path, I do my best to sit in reverie to appreciate the beauty of the moment. Taking stock this morning I ponder what the holiday spirit brings to us. Opportunity. Whether we are focused upon ourselves, loved ones or others (hopefully with acts of service, *hint, *hint) this holiday season, we are given blessed opportunity. For what you ask? To extend ourselves a bit further, to reach a little higher + offer empathy + compassion with an open heart. Recently I have come to truly understand that some people lack what I drown in . . . Empathy. The ability to understand + show compassion towards others. But this like many things can be exercised to strengthen. Have you ever stopped to truly consider what it would be like to walk in someone else’s shoes?Have you ever thought what it must be like for your mom to cook Thanksgiving meal for two days? What your dad sacrificed to work 12 hour shifts to keep the roof over your head? Your friend’s feelings over losing her cat? It starts just as simply as that. Next you ask, to what benefit? Empathy builds meaningful, deep relationships, leads to wisdom, selflessness + the end to chronic weariness of the soul. In the end, it helps strengthen internal joy (*note not just transient happiness) How? Still your inner dialogue + listen with intent. Take note of external cues. Ask meaningful questions. Allow yourself to assume their emotions for a moment. If they are happy, relish in it with them. If they are sad, imagine that feeling + offer them the type of comfort you give yourself. This holiday season, I encourage you to look for opportunities to extend compassion to your family, neighbors, yourself + strangers. If you hold appropriate boundaries (which I will write about another day) you risk nothing but personal growth + will have given the best gift of all . . .Insta insists I be brief - there is much benefit to self, to others, to community. The end of the Autumn + the closing of 2023; we are saying goodbye to all that we knew this season, this year and preparing ourselves for new beginnings. This is a time of reflection, gathering what we need for comfort in the forsaken season. Many make resolutions, pledging a new start, come the new year. Honestly, I like the idea of a fresh start. Always have. I take time to assess my life and without fail make doable resolutions. Being a goal-oriented person, many have stuck. This year’s resolutions focus on honing in on the good habits and getting better at them. For example, one of last year’s resolutions was to read a minimum of 15 mins at midday. With my lunch, or tea, pick up one of the many books I am reading and let the day fall a away. It is a healthy break for me. This year, I am adding 5 minutes to my reading time. Another? I hope to deepen my yoga + meditation practices . . . But I have also added a new “philosophy” if you will. If something in your life isn’t serving you, quietly thank it for the lesson — and let it go. As you know I am sensitive and sticky to emotions, feelings and ideas. I feel a powerful pull to work through the muck and mire to “cleanse” the world of such obstructions. But this year, I will take a pass. If there is one thing I have learned this year, it is that I do not have to carry the weight of the world upon my shoulders. The new, lighter version of me will kindly accept the lesson and carry on. I don’t know about you, but I like this simple idea.
