For International Dance Day I want to honor Canadian Tap Icon William Orlowski. He began tap dancing back in an age when it was absolutely taboo for a boy to dance. But he was passionate. He took classical training as well, but tap was his heart and soul. He was in commercials, and then founded the first professional tap dance company in Canada as well as a tap school to develop new dancers. This company toured the world, representing our country in places like China before it really opened to the West. I am always saddened that the company's over 50 original works of choreography never were catalogued for future generations to perform. His story is shared in my book - Life Outside the Box. I was so glad he was alive to see his story in print. He passed after a long struggle with Dystonia a year and a half after it was published. Here's to you my friend. I still miss you. Time flies so fast, suddenly it's been a year since all of that happened. So on Sunday, April 28, we held a Mass to commemorate the first anniversary of Helen's passing to pray for peace, happiness and prosperity for her soul in heaven. Mass was held online, because Helen's family and friends were spread across various parts of the world. I also remember, at last year's requiem mass (May. 2. 2023) which was also broadcast online,Andrew and I delivered our eulogy which we prepared the night before with a heavy heart. But some time later we found out many friends and family couldn't hear the eulogy we delivered clearly. So on this occasion as an eternal memory, my lovely cousin @sirico summarizes it as can be seen in this post. “I’LL START BEING GOOD!” Gabriel Fernandez was only 8 years old when his body couldn’t take the continual beating anymore. He was removed from life support on May, 24, 2013. May 22, 2013, Gabriel said to his mother, Pearl Fernandez, “Why you with him, he’s always hurting me? If you leave, I promise I’ll start being good.” And Isauro, Aguirre then confronted Gabriel about this, but Gabriel denied saying it. This enraged Isauro and he alleged that he lost all control and began punching and kicking this sweet boy over 30 times in the head and body. First responders were called and Gabriel was taken to the hospital. He was put on life support. 2 days later, he was removed and pronounced dead. This sweet boy was abandoned by his mother when he was born. But, when she found out that she could get money for Gabriel, she then wanted custody of him. Gabriel was ONLY in her care for 8 months. Those were the longest and most horrific months of this young boy’s life. Pearl and Isauro forced this sweet boy to live in a cabinet and they would lock him inside. They would handcuff him, gag him, force him to eat cat litter, shoot him with BB guns, force him to wear dresses, and torture the hell out of him. He tried getting help, he told his teacher multiple times. His teacher made multiple CPS reports. However, when she made these reports to CPS, this just escalated his abuse. The last report the teacher made…..is caused Gabriel to miss 13 days of school. When he came back……he had bruises all over his head and face and this was 13 days later! Not only was Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services contacted many, many times by many different people, but the Sheriff’s Department had also been contacted many times. Unfortunately, the workers who went to investigate, believed the Pearl and Isauro.
