JagTheatre had an amazing night together Thursday, May 9th at DPAC Rising Stars. The night started off with a bang when the curtain rose to reveal Ava Gaudet (11th) and Grace Hunt (10th) center stage for the opening number. Both were highlighted as featured tappers! The excitement continued as we got to cheer on Mary Mask (11th) as she sang her solo and performed in 3 additional group numbers. The cast and crew of JagTheatre’s “Anything Goes” were honored to be selected as finalists for Best Choreography, Best Costume Design, Best Set Design, and Best Musical, and were awarded Best Choreography this year! This is a very heartfelt shout out to our amazing tour guide, Grace. She was the best! She kept us running on time, going in the right direction, making sure we were fed, sprinkling us with fun facts, and brought the sunshine and positivity throughout our whole trip. Very quickly, she became a part of the JagTheatre family, and it was so sad when we had to say goodbye on Sunday. Our song and dance workshop needs its own post because it was just that awesome. We got another huge surprise when we arrived @pearlstudiosnyc and found out that we were going to be learning a section from @hadestown from #maxkumangai , who we had seen perform in the show the night before! Then the next person to walk in the room was @a.j.holmes from @therealteamstarkid to work with us on the vocals and provide live accompaniment! We learned so much and are so thankful for the opportunity to work with professionals that could share their skills and knowledge. Another gem of @broadwayupclose workshops is Tim Dolan, who welcomed us in and shared so much about both the history of Broadway and working in the industry. Day 2 started with a stage combat workshop taught by @kopitskycombat and @easybreezyparisse with @broadwayupclose @pearlstudiosnyc , followed by a subway ride to @centralparknyc . Theatre takes a lot of work but there is nothing quite like the feeling of sharing a show with an audience. 🎭 March is also Theatre in our Schools Month so we want to share out how much you learn by being involved in the Arts. More than learning the difference between a shuffle and a flap, our actors learned to be persistent in learning complex movements. They worked independently to nail their routines and then worked as a team to make it unified. Fun Theatre Fact: Did you know that some of the first stage hands for theatre were sailors? They brought their knowledge gained hoisting sails and moving items around ships to the stage to help with the magic of scene changes. Long before headsets and microphones, they would use different whistle patterns to communicate when things needed to move. This is why we have the superstition to not whistle in the theater. Dan Mason has been performing, directing, and teaching in the Triangle area for over 30 years. He is an award-winning performer and director, receiving 3 Cantey Performance Awards at Raleigh Little Theatre. In musical theatre, Dan has performed in leading roles all over North Carolina in the following shows: Cabaret, Nine, The Sound of Music, Chicago, Sweeney Todd, Candide, Brigadoon, The Student Prince, La Cage aux Folles, 1776, Annie, I Do I Do, Man of La Mancha, and The Fantasticks. We are bringing back tap classes to Flex Time! No experience is necessary and classes are open to the whole school. We have a stock of tap shoes in a variety of sizes available to borrow.
