I must admit, I've always had a fondness for tie-in covers. 😊 For my April #readchristie2024 selection, I'm going with the first Miss Marple novel, The Murder at the Vicarage (originally published in 1930). I'm excited to revisit this one, as Miss Marple has always been my favorite Christie sleuth. 👵📚 @officialagathachristie #agathachristie #missmarple #Marple #book #books #booknerd #murdermystery #crimenovel #readingchallenge

Short Stories Saturday Summary. Sensational! Stupendous! ( That's enough S words now -Ed.) Qotd?: What was the last short story you read? Another week of #ReadingAStoryADay and this week was the end of the Marple book (see previous post for review) The summary: Saturday - Mrs Badgery by Wilkie Collins A humorous haunting. Sunday - The Most Strongest Obeah Woman of The World by Nalo Hopkinson Probably best for your health not to mess with ancient traditions and magic. That's my advice 😉 Monday - The Disappearance by Leigh Bardugo A Miss Marple story with a controversial ending. Tuesday - Alice's Red by @wyethitweird Alice, a wolf, & coming of age. Wednesday - Behind Her, Trailing Like Butterfly Wings by Daniela Tomova From Bulgaria. A fable like dystopian world. Thursday - Mrs Lirriper's Lodgings by Charles Dickens Mrs Lirriper recounts the goings on in her lodging house. A snapshot of Victorian London life. Friday - The Norwood Trouble by Maurice Broaddus Horror in the black community of Norwood in segregation era America. Again, quite a mix. Two Victorian tales, two horror stories, a sci-fi story, a short piece of speculative/weird fiction and a Miss Marple murder mystery. Have a great weekend & happy reading. 🏷️ : @editionsdumasque • #agathachristie#agathachristiebooks#laffaireprotheroe#themurderatthevicarage#editionsdumasque#missmarple#bookstagram#bookstagramfrance

Ascoltato in audiolibro e consigliato. #⭐⭐⭐⭐ Durata 9 ore e 3 minuti.

✨️ Book review ✨️ I very sadly have come to the end of my Miss Marple books by @officialagathachristie after reading Miss Marple : The Complete Short Stories. I have been putting this off, trying not to read them all in quick succession, even though I have wanted to inhale them! The queen of murder mysteries, Agatha Christie, was a genius. I am in awe of her brain, her imagination, and her writing. Though I prefer the longer stories, this collection of short stories was a pleasure to read, as it gave me multiple doses of Miss Marple and the magic that is her character. I am sad that I will never again have the joy of reading one of Miss Marples' stories for the first time, but I am so happy that I went down this road to begin with! This will remain one of my most prized possessions, and I will surely re-read them in the future, as well as pass them down to my daughter when she is old enough. If you love murder mysteries and cozy books, I highly suggest that you head Agatha Christies way if you haven't already! . . #bookreview #missmarple #agathachristie #tbr #apriltbr #fiction #murdermystery #books #booked #cozymurdermystery #cozymystery #booksbooksbooks #bookrecs #bookish #readstagram #bookstack #shelfie #bookshelf #booknook #whattoread #bookrecommendations #fyp #bookstagram #bookworm #booklover #reading #booklife #momlife #booklist #mommysgotabookobssession

Poprosił on ją o znalezienie mordercy, jednak nie podał żadnych szczegółów, czego sprawa dotyczy, kogo zamordowano, gdzie i kiedy. ~Romantyczna ❤️ 🌼 Za egzemplarz serdecznie dziękujemy @wydawnictwo_dolnoslaskie #nemezis #agathachristie #kryminał #crime #detective #pannamarple #missmarple #crimebooks #reading #lovereading #author #reader #readingtime #bookcover #czytaniejestfajne #czytambolubię #książkowezdjęcie #spring #book #książka #czytam #bookstagrampl #bookstagram #igreads #recenzjaksiazki #recenzja #bookphotography #igbooks #igreads Agatha Christie Nemezis książka czytam kryminał detektyw Panna Marple

#ReadChristie2024 This year’s Read Christie challenge from @OfficialAgathaChristie looks at her work by the decades they were published. We have moved to the 1930s, and April’s pick is The Murder at the Vicarage, first published in 1930.  This was the first full-length mystery featuring Miss Marple, who had only appeared in some of Christie’s short stories. I enjoyed this reread, and it introduces the village of St. Mary Mead, which is not as idyllic as it appears on the surface. Narrated by the Vicar, The Reverend Clement, the mystery revolves around a suspicious death in the Vicar’s home while he is out. It’s up to his neighbor, the enigmatic Miss Marple, to help figure it out, as “there is no detective in England equal to a spinster lady of uncertain age with plenty of time on her hands.”   SYNOPSIS:  Miss Marple encounters a compelling murder mystery in the sleepy little village of St. Mary Mead, where under the seemingly peaceful exterior of an English country village lurks intrigue, guilt, deception, and death. Colonel Protheroe, local magistrate and overbearing land-owner is the most detested man in the village. Everyone—even the Vicar—wishes he were dead. And very soon he is—shot in the head in the Vicar’s own study. Faced with a surfeit of suspects, only the inscrutable Miss Marple can unravel the tangled web of clues that will lead to the unmasking of the killer. ☕️ My steep was Murder on the Orient Express Blend from Harney and Sons tea. I love pulling one of Harney’s Agatha Christie-inspired blends out when I read her books! This one blends black, oolong, and jasmine teas flavored with bergamot oil.  QOTD: What are your plans for the weekend?

#flatlayfriday ✨ Agatha Christie was my go-to author after I finished all the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew books and before I got serious about Stephen King. The grand dame of mystery, the Queen of Crime, Christie’s novels spanned decades (20’s-70’s) and she is widely regarded as one of the greatest writers of all time and is the best-selling author of all time with her novels selling more than 2 billion copies. Her most famous creations are detectives Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple, who incidentally never worked together. These books shown are mostly Poirot books. I believe I got these at a yard sale when I was a kid—someone was getting rid of a box-full. I also have several of her books that don’t have covers, which is the bane of my existence but when I was young I just wanted to read them, I didn’t care. Probably something like ten cents a book at a yard sale back then! These ones are all mid-60’s editions and when new were between 35-50 cents! All are US editions, some have alternate titles in the UK. I think my favorite thing about these are the old covers. I also love the dedication in Poirot Loses A Client: “TO DEAR PETER, MOST FAITHFUL OF FRIENDS AND DEAREST OF COMPANIONS, A DOG IN A THOUSAND”. 🐾 Say it with me now, awww! 🥰 Books highlighted: 🔍 Murder On The Links (1923) 🔎 Partners in Crime (1929) 🔍The Boomerang Clue (1933) 🔎 Cards on the Table (1936) 🔍 Poirot Loses a Client (1937) 🔎 An Overdose of Death (1940) 🔍 There is a Tide (1948) 🔎 So Many Steps to Death (1954) #books #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #reading #booklife #readersofinstagram #bookcommunity #booklove #horror #bookish #horrorbooks #horrorbooksofinstagram #mystery #suspense #agathachristie #herculepoirot #missmarple #classics #crimenovels #oldbooks

A small village, a hand full of suspects, one murder committed at the vicarage.
How was it possible? Who was there at the time of the crime, and who had a motive?
Can Miss Marple solve the mystery that puzzles everyone? The Murder at the Vicarage is Miss Marple’s first case and April’s #ReadChristie2024 pick.
The delightful crime novel is told by the clergyman of St. Mary Mead, working together with an arrogant detective, only to have his clever and elderly neighbour Jane Marple put the pieces together.
Even though Miss Marple isn’t as present in this novel as one might think in the beginning, her importance is inevitable as the story progresses. In the end, she is the one giving crucial clues and connecting the dots to convict the criminal.

the moving finger by agatha christie rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ while i really enjoyed the first instalment in the miss marple series, the murder at the vicarage, and liked the second one, the body in the library, i‘m not a big fan of the moving finger. the mystery wasn‘t as interesting and, well, mysterious, the characters were a bit annoying at times and i thought that some parts were just unnecessary and boring because they didn’t add any depths to the plot at all. although i really loved the small village as a setting and the gossip surrounding every character and the crime(s) in the first two books, here, while still cozy, it seemed a bit shallow. however, it was definitely a fast and easy read that entertained me well enough, i guess. i‘ll definitely continue with the series and have quite high hopes that the 4th book in the series will be more to my taste again!

25th April 🔫 We now enter the 1930’s with our #readchristie reads and join the marvellous Miss Marple in her first adventure. St Mary Mead is a typical, quiet English village, you know the sort, pretty little houses, a Manor House, local doctor, church and a few gossipy old ladies. It just so happens that these gossipy old ladies are a great help when a murder is committed! Colonel Protheroe is found dead, shot through the head, in the Vicar’s study. The village is stunned and the police are called in. The vicar, Rev Leonard Clement, narrates our story and he is such a fantastic character, I love his sense of humour and dry wit. One particularly nosey lady, who lives next to the vicarage is the formidable Miss Marple. She looks like butter wouldn’t melt with her knitting and her twinkling blue eyes and yet she is throwing some light on the going ons of the village that most villagers don’t know. “Why, one, two, three, four, five, six - yes, and a possible seven. I can think of at least seven people who might be very glad to have Colonel Protheroe out of the way” “Seven people? In St Mary Mead?” Miss Marple nodded brightly. My absolute favourite Miss Marple sort and one that I can read again and again and never tire of. . #agathachristie #agathachristiebooks #readchristie2024 #agathachristiefan #agathachristiebookclub #marple #missmarple #themurderatthevicarage #stmarymead #thereadchristieclub #crimefiction #agathachristiegram #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookschristieandacuppa

What an introduction The Murder at the Vicarage is to the wonderful Miss Marple!! Narrated from the perspective of Vicar, Leonard Clement, the reader is taken along the journey of the residents of St Mary Mead trying to unravel the mystery of who murdered Colonel Protheroe. Agatha Christie through the character of Jane Marple, highlights that despite one’s age, they can be just as canny and shrewd as younger people, and as in the case of Miss Marple, often a lot smarter!! What has always stood out for me is how Miss Marple uses her intuition to help her solve the mysteries she encounters, and in The Murder at the Vicarage we see Miss Marple explain this to Clement, “Intuition is like reading a word without having to spell it out….because they have seen it often before.” The reader also gains an insight into Miss Marple’s understanding of human nature, “the only way is to compare people to other people you have known or come across. You’d be surprised if you knew how very few distinct types there are in all.” It is this observation that Christies uses to set up how Miss Marple will solve all subsequent mysteries she comes across, and it becomes a staple in many of her novels that Miss Marple solves the mystery by relating it to an event or person she has come across before. Lastly, the other narrative element that Christie establishes in The Murder at the Vicarage, is how at first many are dismissive of Miss Marple, but in the end, they marvel at her cleverness, and this is best captured by the reaction of Colonel Melchett when Miss Marple reveals who killed Protheroe, why they did it, and how they did it. As observed by Clement, “all this time Colonel Melchett had sat like a man in a trance” and “was impressed with the logical certainty of Miss Marple’s conclusions”, sentiments that are to be repeated often by those who come across Miss Marpe. Another great selection from the Read Christie book club!! #readchristie2024 #missmarple #agathachristie #agathachristiequotes #missmarplequotes #bookclubreads #mysterynovel #mysterycrimebooks #missmarplenovels #themurderatthevicarage #bookreviewersofinstagram #britishcrimefiction #britishcrimewriters

It is a mixture of #Crime, #Passion and #Romance. What I found particularly clever was the introduction of Miss Marple as a hobby-detective. You already get to know her well as a character and can see the features that later become significant for her. As always with Christie, we are in for strong female characters and interesting plot twists. The only downturn of the story was, that it took me a while as a reader, to get into it – meaning for the first 50-100 pages, the pacing was a bit off. However, the rest of the novel was a truly entertaining, which is why I gave it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars. #bookstagram #AgathaChristie #QueenofCrime #MurderMystery

A Morrissey favourite - Margaret Rutherford, in the film ‘Murder, She Said’ (1961) - a clip of which was screened at Morrissey’s pre-show entertainment in 2023. A rewrite of Agatha Christie’s ‘4:50 from Paddington’, the film begins cleverly with Miss Jane Marple (Rutherford) boarding a train, and seeing various passengers in the train passing by hers - including a murder in progress. Along with her male Librarian admirer, she seeks to solve the mystery when the police don’t take her seriously. Gaining a job as a very unlikely maid at nearby Ackenthorpe Hall, Jane lurks and snoops until finding the body of the murdered woman in the stables. A very clever tale with excellent acting by Rutherford, this story had me guessing right up until the end - although my suspicions on who the murderer was turned out to be correct, the motive was a surprise. Very funny too - that just like in ‘I’m a Stranger’, viewed earlier this week, there is an Inspector Craddock, who is referred to as Inspector Haddock! What are the chances? An excellent British film, that pays perfect homage to Agatha Christie herself. Me encanta.

This month’s selection for #ReadChristie2024 reading challenge from @officialagathachristie is Murder at the Vicarage. The overall theme for this year is Christie’s works through the decades and this is one of the books representing the 1930s. I read Agatha Christie’s Murder at the Vicarage for the second time about three years ago and my first photo is from my March 2021 post.To refresh my memory about the book before tomorrow’s discussion (See @officialagathachristie for more information), I Iistened to the audiobook this month. (➡️ Swipe to see a new photo of the audiobook.) I had heard good things about the narrator, and I agree that Richard E. Grant does a great job with all the characters in this delightful story. Of course, I love MIss Marple, but I also enjoy the character of Vicar Clement. In the story, it’s Clement who is telling the story about the case and his sense of humor is fantastic. The middle part of the story is a little slow for me, but when Leonard Clement and Jane Marple start comparing notes about the case of a man found dead at the vicarage, the book becomes hard to put down. This is Christie’s first full-length book to feature Miss Marple and it’s a great introduction to how observant she is and how her knowledge of human nature makes her an excellent amateur sleuth. #readersofinstagram #bookcommunity #dameagatha #readchristie2024 #readingchallenge #agathachristie #agathachristiefan #favoriteaurhors #missmarple #murderatthevicarage #audiobook #richardegrant #mysterybook #aprilreads #cozycrime #bookwormlife

Poirot or Marple? We’ve entered the 1930s in #readchristie2024 , and this month’s @officialagathachristie pick was The Murder at the Vicarage, Miss Marple’s first full-length novel. Even though Poirot is my love, I do like Miss Marple a lot, and mostly I love what she stands for: women being smarter than everyone else. For funsies I decided to listen to a radio dramatization since I’ve read this book many times. It was really well done, with voices fitting characters perfectly and lots of words directly from the book. It was released in 1993, with June Whitfield as Miss Marple and Imelda Staunton as Griselda. I think the vicar as narrator is very entertaining, and I laugh at how law enforcement officials just let him be part of their interviews and everyone in the village reports to him about their theories and personal dramas. The vicar could have had his own mystery series! Or maybe Father Brown has that covered. If you loved these characters, don’t forget that Val McDermid wrote a short story called “The Second Murder at the Vicarage” in the Marple short story collection. It’s very fun. I don’t have many of these newer Marple covers because I collect the older paperbacks. But this was super cheap at my library’s used book sale and I couldn’t resist. I do think these Marple covers are pretty. Btw I am SO excited about the new US Poirot covers that are starting to be rolled out this year. If you go to the William Morrow website you can see them. #beautifulbooks #coverlove #bookphotograph #bookstagram #readchristie #fullonagatha #agathachristie #dameagathachristie #booklover #agathachristiebooks #christiebooks #bibliophile #agatha #booksofinstagram #queenofcrime #igreads #thereadchristieclub #murdermystery #murdersheread #goldenageofcrime #mystery #classiccrime #whodunnit #booksofinstagram #crimeclassics #themurderatthevicarage #missmarple

📚 What is a book that you can’t stop thinking about? Hi everyone, I hope you are all having a nice week ☺️ the lovely @thedragonsden_ tagged me to do the book math challenge & it was a lot of fun to think about and put the list together! ➕Addition - Most recent purchase I’m cheating for this one & picking 2 recent purchases, one is A Fate Inked in Blood which I bought after reading @heddas.bookgems ‘s review & the other is a collection of Miss Marple stories by Agatha Christie that I picked up from a secondhand bookstore ☺️ ➖ Subtraction - Last physical book read The last physical book I finished was Divine Rivals which I really enjoyed 🥰 it was such a sweet story & was just everything I needed it to be at the time. ✖️ Multiplication - Favourite book by a favourite author I chose Memories of Ice for this prompt. So much happens in this book & I was quite emotional throughout it. It’s still my favourite of the Malazan books so far & I’ve gushed about this one many times. ➗ Division - A favourite book in a favourite series I had to choose A Storm of Swords for this prompt. This book was so intense, so many enormous things happened & my opinions about certain characters changed completely across the course of this book. Such a masterpiece. 🟰 Equals - A book you want to reread The Lies of Locke Lamora is the book I want to reread the most. It is a few years since I read & enjoyed this book & I want to continue with the series. Definitely would like to reread this one before the end of the year 🤞🏻 🖤 Exponent - A hyped book you love I had to choose Piranesi for this one. I just loved how this book was written & Piranesi as a character. Highly recommend checking this book out if you haven’t already. ♾️ Infinity - A book you can’t stop thinking about I am cheating for this one by picking a series but it has to be Berserk 😂 there is no other option for me. I haven’t stopped thinking about this story since I first read it 3 years ago. It’s amazing & is still my all time favourite story. It has some of the best character arcs I’ve ever seen, the art is phenomenal & the story itself is so intense & gripping. Take care everyone 💕

#moordindebibliotheek #agathachristie #uitgeverijrainbow #missmarple #moordmysterie #detective #fictie #roman #bookstagram #booksofinstagram

Rereading Agatha Christie's first Miss Marple novel, "The Murder at the Vicarage" (though not Miss M's first appearance - that would be in some slightly earlier short stories), and since my memory is completely hazy as to the identity of the killer, I have to guess the Vicar (or one of his household), because what kind of normal person would arrange their study this way?!?! #murderatthevıcarage #themurderatthevicarage #agathachristie #missmarple #terribleinteriordesign #murdermysteries #mysterynovelfloorplans #murdermystery

Book Review Sleeping Murder By Agatha Christie ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - 4 stars Summary - Gwenda moves to England for the first time from New Zealand and buys a house for her and her husband, Giles. But something about the house seems very familiar. When she knows things about the house that she shouldn't know, Gwenda starts to get worried. This comes to a head when she remembers a woman called Helen being strangled in the house. She and Giles set out to find out who Helen could have been, if she has been murdered and if she has, who did it? Review - After reading The Moving Finger in January, this felt like much more of a return to classic Miss Marple for me. I enjoyed reading this one. This was a great mystery. I had previously seen the television episode based on this book so I did know the plot already, but it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the book. I think if I didn't already know the plot, I wouldn't have guessed the solution to the mystery. It was very clever. Gwenda was a very likeable character and I enjoyed following her and Giles in the story. However, there was also plenty of Miss Marple so I felt like the book struck a nice balance between them. I would definitely recommend this Miss Marple book if you like mystery and crime books. Christie's books are always nice, quick reads. I think this may be one of my favourite Miss Marple books so far. #bookstagram #sleepingmurder #agathachristie #missmarple

👍 #bookstagram #bookstagramgermany #germanbookstagram #bookstagramdeutschland #instabooks #buchblog #buchblogger #buchbloggerin #booknerd #booklover #bookaholic #bibliophile #booksbooksbooks #ilovebooks #bookcommunity #reading #lektüre #lesen #buch #bücher #literatur #lesenmachtglücklich #aesthetic #bookaesthetic #agathachristie #agathachristiebooks #missmarple #crime #cozycrime

"There is no detective in England equal to a spinster lady of uncertain age with plenty of time on her hands." Nearly missed my train this morning because I had to get to the end of The Murder at the Vicarage. Needless to say, I enjoyed my first Marple. I loved the claustrophobic village setting, the local gossips, the carefully plotted murder, and the subtle commentary on ageism and classism (our detectives would have gotten a lot further if they hadn't automatically discounted evidence from people they deemed senile or 'unrefined'). And of course, Miss Marple. Underestimated by nearly all but ultimately the most competent detective around. A lot more modest than Poirot, but just as effective. I can't wait to read more stories from St. Mary Mead. . . . #themurderatthevicarage #agathachristie #missmarple #readchristie2024 #queenofcrime #bookstagramuk
