Opening tomorrow | ‘The Ned Kelly Suite’- Ross Miller — We are delighted to welcome you for the opening of Ross Miller’s ‘The Ned Kelly Suite’. The present body of work was inspired by Miller’s son-in-law’s chance comment, comparing the mask the sculptor wore to receive radiotherapy treatment while recovering from cancer to the mask of an iconic figure in Australian history. Beginning with Self-Portrait of the Artist, which represents the conflation of the radiotherapy mask and Ned Kelly’s distinctive helmet, the initial idea resulted in a suite of sculptures capturing key moments from Ned Kelly’s narrative. In preparation for the suite, Miller researched Kelly’s life extensively, delving into the archival materials, numerous biographies, as well as general studies contextualising the socio-historical context of the era. From the plethora of available information, Miller has selected episodes that resonate with him in a variety of ways on a profoundly personal—and, at times, autobiographical—level. Last night was beyond magical! Thank you @CTGLA for inviting me to THE GALA 2024. It was a dazzling celebratory night at the @MarkTaperForum that honored @MatthewBourne13, where we were treated to excerpts from his groundbreaking production of Swan Lake. We also got a special appearance by @NiaVardalos, @thelivingmichaeljackson, & the one & only @MelissaMcCarthy (who gave a hilarious & very poignant speech about the power of ballet & the arts). And of course, we got an absolutely breathtaking headlining performance by Tony Award® winner @MsLeaSalonga! Hearing her sing songs from Aladdin, Mulan, Les Mis, and Sweeney Todd made me cry SO hard! It was literally a dream come true! 🥹😭❤️ We also got a First Look at the upcoming 2024-2025 season, which includes a revival of Green Day's American Idiot, in collaboration with @deafwest! One of the things that really touched my heart last night was how everyone in attendance truly cares about the arts & want to see theatre be more accessible to students & everyone in LA! Do domu vtrhne gestapo a bere z každého bytu 2 rukojmí, ale protože se s majitelem tohoto bytu zná, umožní společnosti nejdřív dokončit oslavu a dává jim 2 hodinu než si rukojmí odvede. A k tomu jim taky “umožní”, aby oni sami vybrali ty, kteří se stanou rukojmími. V sobotu byla premiéra, a já stále přemýšlím, jak bych se v takové situaci asi zachovala.. Vy to víte? From the moment the dance call started, I knew @domkelley and @cedricdodd_ were the dream team. They created and nurtured a space with room to cut up and still get the job done. A space to play and create character. A space that made the goofy gremlin in the last slide feel seen and cared for as a human being. ||| 🗞️🌇🗞️ ||| Last week we closed @bravo_academy’s production of Newsies and I’m still kicking up my heels with joy! I wasn’t sure if I’d ever get the opportunity to work on this show and I’m so grateful for @m_bencic for believing in me to co-direct & choreograph this story. It challenged me in terms of dance, physicality, and movement-based storytelling and I feel I made some good strides in my creative work. I’m proud of that. On opening day, I showed the cast a personalized message from @theharveyfierstein who wrote the book of the show. We did Fiddler back in the day and he graciously & intently told these emerging artists to “tell the truth. Acting is not lying. It’s telling the truth. It might not be your truth but it’s your character’s truth. So, tell the truth and have the best time ever!” They were stunned and I’ve never seen such urgency in their work. Thank you, PapaH! It’s always special to have @beverlydonnerrossoff & @frnchflyer in the audience. Thank you for all the support & love. Deep gratitude to the whole creative team and the Bravo staff & community.
