#lanscape #paysage #montfuji #japan #japon #travelphotography #traveljapan #voyage #photooftheday #photographer #montfuji #fujisan #japantrip #japantravel #mountfujijapan #travelbloggersofinstagram #mountainfuji #lifestylejapan #mtfujijapan #japantravelplanet #travellingjapan #asianwanderlust #kawaguchiko #japanphotography #exploretheworldaroundyou #japanlifestyle #igtravellers #mount_fuji

On every trip to Kyoto, I always make a point to visit Gio-ji Temple. I've always appreciated the aesthetics of moss, but this temple elevated my love for it. I very much enjoyed the display showing the different moss types present at the temple, shown in the pictures above. The serene Gio-ji Temple settled in the Ukyo district in Kyoto is definitely one of the historic city's hidden gems. The temple grounds are deceptively small, but if you take the time to explore them, you'll discover a thick layer of vibrant moss, towering trees full of life, and a hidden love from which the temple gained its name. No matter the season, if you have a chance to visit this Tranquil japanese garden, you should definitely take it. From the radiant, lush green moss in spring to the glowing, vibrant orange leaves of autumn, each season gives you another reason to keep coming back, just as I do. Tell me about your experience down below if you have had the chance to visit my favorite hidden temple, and follow for more from the Journey to Japan chapter in the Creative Codex.

We spent so much time exploring Tokyo's oldest temple, Sensō-ji Temple in Asakusa, while we were in Tokyo, yet something about it kept drawing us back. We there during in the morning, late at night, and every time in between, and we always discovered something new. It's crazy how some places seem to radiate magic. Some of you may be wondering why I'm bringing up the grand Sensō-ji Temple when the picture seems to be taken during a serene hike outside of Tokyo, and it's to those people that I say, take the time to wander, even in the city. This picture is from a small garden tucked away on the grounds of Sensō-ji Temple. One thing that made me fall in love with Tokyo is the tiny seemless transitions from urban to rural in the span of a minute. So, while you have the iconic Kaminarimon Gates and the Five-Storied Pagodas looming feet behind you, and the bustling Nakamise Shopping street echoing in the distance, you find a serene spot of nature, lying in wait to be found. Have you experienced the magic of Sensō-ji Temple? Tell me about your experience down below, and follow for more from the Journey to Japan chapter in the Creative Codex.

After spending the day exploring Kiyomizu-dera Temple, we decided to stay in the area to explore the Kiyomizu district a little at night! We loved seeing all of the architecture and shops, and also, the cherry blossoms were finally starting to pop! There was a beautiful incense shop, where we picked up some souvenirs (and a couple of things for us too!). We ended the night with a lovely dinner at the Kyoto Bistro before heading back to the hotel. The whole city of Kyoto is full of nature, culture, and history. The lovely Kiyomizu district, located in the Higashiyama Ward of Kyoto, is no exception! There's a lot packed into the small streets of the Kiyomizu district. Of course, the big attraction is Kiyomizu-dera Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and for good reason. The large temple, drawing in people from all over Japan and the world, was built only using Japanese jointing techniques. In other words, no nail was used in its construction! A large portion of the magic of Kiyomuzu, however, lies in the streets leading to the temple. Sannen-zaka, and the nearby Ninen-zaka, are historical streets lined with traditional shops, like teahouses, sweets shops, and pottery, and, naturally, souvenir stores. It's bustling during the day, with people in kimono and yukata galore, but the atmospheric shift at night shouldn't be missed. Have you ever visited this historic district? Is it on your bucket list? Tell me about your experience down below, and follow for more from the #journeytojapan chapter in the #creativecodex .

This may be a controversial post. Chalk it up to late night walkings and musings in Tokyo. I think graffiti, or street tagging, can easily be an art form. After nearly 3 months of wandering around Japan and Korea, it was finally time to return to America. My 2019 trip had been an epic one and I desperately didn’t want to leave but my flight home was already booked and I just had to accept that the journey was over. Soon enough my Japan Airlines flight began boarding and I found my seat near the rear of the place. The flight home wasn’t eventful, except for the resulting time zone change that meant it was the morning of the same day when I landed on the other side of the Pacific Ocean. That was officially the longest Thursday of my life. After exiting the plane I could really feel that the journey had come to an end. I was glad to be back in America but also sad that my time in Japan and Korea had come to an end. . . . #naritaairport #japantravel #japantrip #traveljapan #japantourism #japantour #tourjapan #japantravelphoto #japantravels #japantravelgallery #japantraveler #japantraveller #japanphotography #japanpic #japanpics #japantravelplanet #japangram

It was time for my final meal in Japan and I was going to go out in style. A minute north of Shibuya Station there’s a building that houses a department store and up near the top level are several restaurants including Katsumidori Seibu, a conveyor belt sushi restaurant. I had been to a few conveyor belt sushi restaurants in other parts of Japan and had really like my experiences at them so I figured I’d go to this restaurant for my last meal before leaving Tokyo. Like other conveyor belt sushi restaurants, you can grab plates that pass by in front of your or you can place orders for particular types of sushi using a tablet computer. Since this was my final meal I ate a lot of sushi and I made sure to try out some types that I hadn’t experienced previously. I’m pleased to say that the sushi at Katsumidori Seibu was great and by the time I was done I was completely stuffed and quite satisfied. . . . #shibuya #conveyorbeltsushi #sushilove #tokyo #tokyotravel #tokyotrip #traveltokyo #tokyophotography #japantravel #japantrip #traveljapan #japantourism #japantour #tourjapan #japantravelphoto #japantravels #japantravelgallery #japantraveler #japantraveller #japanphotography #japanpic #japanpics #japantravelplanet #japangram

I woke up in Japan for the last time on November 28. The journey across Japan and Korea was coming to an end later that day and the melancholy weather somehow seemed fitting for the occasion. Chilly winters and cozy feelings ❄🔥. These words accompany a bowl of `Buridaikon`, a traditional dish of Kagoshima prefecture of Japan pendant the cold season. This favorite combines the locally bred Buri fish 🐠 known for its rich, flavorful profile, with the incredibly tender and sweet Daikon radish 🥕. The harmony of flavors ✨ - the savory Buri fish melting into the subtle sweetness of the Daikon is beyond compare. Buri, or the Yellowtail, is a specialty of Kagoshima 😊. With numerous inlets perfect for the growth of young Buri, this region prides itself on its top-notch Buri aquaculture. Farms in places like Nagashima, Tarumizu, Kanoya, and Minamiosumi stalwartly keep the tradition of Buri rearing alive 🎏. They even export this "King Buri" around the globe 🌐! While most Buridaikon is prepared with regular Daikon, using Kagoshima's signature Sakurajima Daikon makes the dish even more special. This radish is extremely dense and soft, not to mention deliciously sweet - best for simmering without losing its shape 🍲❤!!! Come winter, the story of Buridaikon brings a magic of its own. If you love the Japanese culture or plan a cozy winter escape, experiencing Kagoshima cuisine should be on your bucket list. Feel the intrinsic warmth of Japanese hospitality and local flavor with a plate of Buridaikon, and make memories to last a lifetime 🍽😊🎌🏮. --- via Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (https://www.maff.go.jp/j/keikaku/syokubunka/k_ryouri/search_menu/menu/buridaikon_kagoshima.html) #japanculture #japaneseculture #japanmade #japanfoodgopan #kagoshimalove #japanesefoodrestaurant #japantravel #japantraveltips #japanesecuisine🇯🇵 #japantraveling #japanfood #japanesefoods #washoku #japanesefoodie #kagoshimafood #japanesefood #japantraveler #japanesefoodlovers #japanphotography #japanesefoodculture #japanfoods #japantravelplanet #kagoshima_lovers #japantravelculture #japantown #kagoshimatravel #japantrip2023 #japanesestyle #japan #kagoshimatrip

I got back to Tokyo after dark and headed over to Mori Tower at Roppongi Hills to visit its observation deck. This is one of my favorite nighttime viewing spots in Tokyo and I had saved it for my final night in the city. Once I was up at the observation deck I found a good place to take a seat and I stared out at the endless city. Low clouds from the passing storm meant that photos taken that night wouldn’t be that good but I was happy just to be there. My field of view was roughly eastward, with Tokyo Tower on my right and the Tokyo Skytree barely visible on the distant left. There’s something strangely soothing about staring out on an ocean of city lights and I remained at my seat for what felt like a long time. . . . #roppongi #roppongihills #moritower #tokyo #tokyotravel #tokyotrip #traveltokyo #tokyophotography #japantravel #japantrip #traveljapan #japantourism #japantour #tourjapan #japantravelphoto #japantravels #japantravelgallery #japantraveler #japantraveller #japanphotography #japanpic #japanpics #japantravelplanet #japangram

Feeling the cold? Here comes a warm dish from Japan, 'Karaimo-gohan'. This local dish from Kagoshima is a mouthwatering combo of Satsuma potatoes and rice. 😋 These potatoes are Kagoshima's pride, thanks to the area's rich volcanic soil and favorable weather. Fun fact: these potatoes are typhoon-resistant! Kagoshima tops the list of sweet potato producers in Japan, all thanks to Mother Nature. 🌱 These potatoes were brought from Ryukyu Islands by a Kagoshima lord back in 1698. They were quickly popular for their easy cultivation and good yield. The potatoes were so important to locals they even had a nickname: 'Potatoes of Filial Piety'. 🥔 Karaimo-gohan woos your palate with the mix of soft rice and sweet potatoes. This simple yet satisfying dish is loved across age groups. 🍚🧡 These potatoes aren’t just for our plates, they're a part of the animal feed and even turned into a unique sweet potato shochu. Its role in defining Kagoshima's food culture can't be downplayed. 🐖🍶 Next time you're in Kagoshima or fancy a Japanese culinary adventure at home, don't miss out on a hot bowl of Karaimo-gohan. It's a mouthful of tradition and Kagoshima's heartwarming hospitality. 😊 Until our next food exploration, keep loving good food! 🌍🍴 --- via Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (https://www.maff.go.jp/j/keikaku/syokubunka/k_ryouri/search_menu/menu/karaimogohan_kagoshima.html) #japantrips #washokulovers #japanfoods #japanesefoodstreet #japanesefoodie #kagoshimatravel #japan_of_insta #japanphoto #japantravelphotos #japanculture #japaneselanguage #kagoshimalove #japaneseculture #japanesecuisines #japanesefood #japanesecuisine #kagoshimatrip #japanfoodies #japanesefoodies #japantrip #japantravelphoto #kagoshimafood #japantravelplanet #japantraveling #japanstyle #japanesefoodculture #japantravelcom #japandi #kagoshima_lovers #japanesefoods

Hello!👋 Let's explore Kagoshima's local cuisine, Butahone-yasai. A New Year's favorite, 🎉 this dish marries chunky bone-in pork and veggies like Tsuwabuki leafy greens, kelp, radish, carrot, and native taro, Koshaman 🥬🥕 In the local dialect, "Uwan" is pork, "Fine" means bone, and "Yasse" signifies vegetables. Simple, isn't it? 😄 Traditionally, the islanders used every part of their black-haired pig, a valuable protein source. This culinary ingenuity led to Butahone-yasai and dishes like pork miso and stir-fries, showcasing the pig's versatility. 🍲🍜 While the island pig is less common today 🐖, the tradition lives on. Salted bone-in pork is readily available for this festive winter savory treat! 🎊 Craving a taste of Japan's winter cuisine? Try Butahone-yasai! Experience the warmth of Japanese winter with Karaimonettabo from Kagoshima Prefecture! 🍠🍡 This dessert uses Kagoshima's locally grown sweet potatoes, Karaimo, which thrive in the region's clear Shirasu plateau and enhance the flavor of the soil, ever challenging the frequent typhoons. 🍠🌀 Karaimo is deeply rooted in Kagoshima's culinary culture, not only feeding the famous Kurobuta black pigs but also becoming the main ingredient of Shochu, Kagoshima's trademark liquor! 🐷🥃 The best celebration of Karaimo is Karaimonettabo. This gem combines steamed Karaimo and fresh mochi rice cake, giving you a taste of Japanese winter! 'Nettabo' refers to the process of kneading the mochi into blob-like forms, a lovely, heartwarming image! 💕 Taste a slice of Kagoshima's agricultural history with the Karaimonettabo! Down on the south side of Enoshima is the entrance to the Iwaya Caves. There are two separate caves down here and both can be easily explored by visitors. The first cave holds some Buddhist statues, a few exhibits on the history of Enoshima, and the spot where Enoshima Shrine was first founded. In the second cave there’s a red dragon in the back. About an hour south of Tokyo is the island of Enoshima, which is connected by a bridge to the mainland. I had come here a few months earlier but had to rush my visit, so I wanted to go back again before leaving Japan. This little island has a strange charm that I can’t quite describe and Enoshima together with nearby Kamakura is my favorite day trip to take from Tokyo. After crossing the bridge to the island there’s a shopping street at the base of the path that leads up to the top of the island. Further uphill is Enoshima Shrine, dates to around the year 552 and is dedicated to the patron goddess of the island. You know that you’ve reached the top of the island when you reach the Sea Candle tower. The Sea Candle normally has good views of the area but since the weather was bad that day I decided not to go up. . . . #enoshima #enoshimaisland #tokyo #tokyotravel #tokyotrip #traveltokyo #tokyophotography #japantravel #japantrip #traveljapan #japantourism #japantour #tourjapan #japantravelphoto #japantravels #japantravelgallery #japantraveler #japantraveller #japanphotography #japanpic #japanpics #japantravelplanet #japangram

Immerse yourself in the rich culinary culture of Japan with Tokushima's hearty winter dish, the Shiromiso-zouni!🍲❄️ Originating from Japan's Shikoku region, this warming stew is a delightful blend of traditional flavors unique to each household.🏡🇯🇵 While Japan is home to a myriad of "zouni" or rice-cake soup varieties, Shiromiso-zouni steals the spotlight with its comforting, mellow taste.😋 The soup starts with a savory broth made from dried sardines and kelp, which perfectly complements the sweet white miso that is blended in to create its unique flavor. Imagine sinking your teeth into soft, gooey mochi (rice cakes) and colorful veggies like carrots, daikon radishes, and winter greens, alongside satiny shiromiso-zouni – truly a treat for the senses!🍚🥕🍲 Tokushima's take on this traditional dish also features charming twists! Some homes in Katsuura sweeten their zouni with a touch of dark brown sugar, intensifying the harmony between the white miso and the earthy vegetables. And households in Aioi add plain sugar, lending an irresistibly mild sweetness to the soup.🌾🍯 Every spoonful of Shiromiso-zouni is a celebration of Tokushima's culinary heritage and their love for locally sourced, seasonal produce.🥣💕 Don't you wish you could taste the depths of this simple yet sophisticated dish? I arrived at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, intending to pass through the palace’s East Gardens, but when I got close I noticed there were security guards everywhere and one of the entrances was blocked off. A river of people were streaming towards another entrance and although I had no idea what was going on I joined the crowds and entered the palace grounds. After a few minutes I saw what everyone else had come to the palace to see. In the middle of the East Gardens was a small temple that had been set up as part of a ceremony that Japan’s new emperor had participated in before ascending to the throne. Outside of Tokyo Station I came across a clock that was counting down to the time when the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics were scheduled to start. I took a wrong turn and ended up in the tunnels underneath Tokyo Station, but ended up stumbling upon a Star Wars exhibit that was down there. This was one of those happy accidents that make travel all the more enjoyable and I spent about 10 minutes looking over everything that was on display. What caught my eye in particular were the Japanese movie posters, since they’re a bit different from the ones that were used in America. . . . #starwars #tokyostation #tokyo #tokyotravel #tokyotrip #traveltokyo #tokyophotography #japantravel #japantrip #traveljapan #japantourism #japantour #tourjapan #japantravelphoto #japantravels #japantravelgallery #japantraveler #japantraveller #japanphotography #japanpic #japanpics #japantravelplanet #japangram

Do you love winter food? If so, say hello to "Yatarazuke"! 😍❄️ This captivating dish hails from Hyogo Prefecture in Japan, a delightful blend of delicious winter vegetables. 🍆🥒🌶️🍠 Originating from the earnest days, the name "Yatarazuke" means, "abundant and delicious", signifying the plethora of scrumptious vegetables used to make this dish. The use of eggplants, cucumbers, perilla seeds, ginger and many more changes from season to season, bringing a new charm to the dish every time it's prepared. Talk about 'variety is the spice of life!' The preservation process is fascinating as it carefully follows the seasonal calendar. 📆 Each of the vegetables are harvested at their peak and salted individually in barrels until winter. By November, all these salted goodies are coarsely chopped, soaked in chili peppers and seasoning for a few days, culminating into Yatarazuke, a hearty winter delight! 🍱❄️ Although buying Yatarazuke is a bit rare now because the number of people preserving it has decreased, there's still a few amazing homes in Chikusa Town, Shinshu City, keeping the Yatarazuke tradition alive. So, are you ready to immerse yourself in the flavors of traditional Japanese winters? Welcome to the winter delicacy of Kyoto, Japan - `Ebiimo-to-boudara-no-taitan`! 🍲❄️ A traditional regional dish crafted from Kyoto’s own 'Ebiimo', a distinctive veggie with a shrimp-like shape and striped pattern, and the north sea cod (Boudara) from Hokkaido. 🍤🐟 Known for its buttery texture and rich umami flavor, the Ebiimo is a beloved root vegetable commonly used in stews thanks to its unique nature of not easily disintegrating when cooked. The Boudara is a dried cod, brought to Kyoto from the icy waters of Hokkaido. Interestingly, a feature of Kyoto’s cuisine is its "Deaimon", which means harmoniously pairing seasonal ingredients to bring out the best in each other. This dish is a prime example of Deaimon!🍲🌟 The gelatinous substance from the Boudara counteracts any potential disintegration of the Ebiimo, and likewise, the Ebiimo’s essence softens the Boudara. It’s a delicious winter symphony - a hearty stew perfect for cold nights. Kyoto’s culinary history nurtured by the many ingredients gathered from across Japan is unique – it has shaped a scrumptious culture of experimenting with eating in all delightful ways.🎎 If Japan's on your travel list, don’t forget to tickle your taste buds with this splendid cuisine in winter Kyoto – `Ebiimo-to-boudara-no-taitan`! Wrap up in Kyoto's winter bliss! 🎎🍲 Prepare to indulge in Shiromiso-no-zouni, a dish both delicious and symbol-laden, enjoyed on New Year's for centuries. At heart, this soup is dashi and soft, round mochi, symbolizing long life and fulfillment. But the special touch? White miso or "shiromiso," a gourmet item tracing back to the Heian period (794-1185) in Kyoto, once relished by the nobility. This high-status miso derives its unique sweetness and gentle flavor from using rice generously in the fermentation process and a shorter fermentation period, creating a less salty final product 🍚💫. To top it off, distinctive Kyoto vegetables ("Kyo-yasai") are added. The round shapes of the 'Kabu' radishes and ‘Kashiraimo' taro convey fulfillment. Taro roots are for prosperity and success. Don't forget the ‘Kintoki’ carrots with their bright red color, included as talisman to keep evil at bay. A bowl of Shiromiso-no-zouni is more than food; it's a harmonious blend of Kyoto's tradition and warmth. A toast to health, longevity, prosperity, and harmony with this winter in Kyoto! 🏮🏯 🥂 Interested in experiencing Kyoto's culinary wonder? After all, sharing food across borders is special. At night I was in Shuinjuku and I had a reservation for the Tokyo Robot Restaurant. My friend @socalchucks had recommended this place to me and it did not disappoint. From the moment you enter the building you know you’re in for an experience you won’t forget (or understand, but it’s more fun that way). Colorful hallways that feel like an acid trip lead to a waiting area, and then down to the big room in the basement where the show happens. I was in the back row, but I think I actually had a better overall view than the people up front since those guys were so close that they’d have a hard time seeing the full spectacle. The show got started after a while and I can best describe it as experiencing what it’s like to be on psychedelics without actually consuming any drugs. The first performance was an epic drum battle between opposing blue and red fantasy warriors. For the second performance they had machines fighting mythical creatures. Wrapping it up was the third performance which was Michael Jackson meets the ocean. When it was all over I felt like I had woken up from the craziest dream. Yes, the Robot Restaurant is very touristy, but it’s undeniably fun. . . . #robotrestaurant #robot #shinjuku #tokyo #tokyotravel #tokyotrip #traveltokyo #tokyophotography #japantravel #japantrip #traveljapan #japantourism #japantour #tourjapan #japantravelphoto #japantravels #japantravelgallery #japantraveler #japantraveller #japanphotography #japanpic #japanpics #japantravelplanet #japangram

I walked north from Shibuya and a while later arrived at the southeast entrance of the Meiji Shrine. Tons of people were at the shrine that day and I joined the stream of visitors walking down the path to the shrine’s central complex. There are about 100,000 trees covering the shrine grounds and even though Meiji is in the middle of a massive metropolis it feels like you’ve been transported out of the city as you walk along the trail. When I reached the main shrine building I found that most of the restoration work that had been going on during my previous visit had been completed. Photography of the interior of the central building was still prohibited but I could now see all the way to the rear of it. . . . #meijishrine #tokyo #tokyotravel #tokyotrip #traveltokyo #tokyophotography #japantravel #japantrip #traveljapan #japantourism #japantour #tourjapan #japantravelphoto #japantravels #japantravelgallery #japantraveler #japantraveller #japanphotography #japanpic #japanpics #japantravelplanet #japangram

Embrace the winter season with a taste of Japan's regional gastronomy from Aichi Prefecture! Ever heard of `Zouni`? It's a delectable traditional soup enjoyed during New Year revelries, simmering with flavorful broth, tender greens, and chewy mochi (rice cakes). Isn't that cozy?😍❄️🍲 Interestingly, Aichi's `Zouni` has a distinct simplicity. A tale narrates a local lord's penance for indulgent meals resulting in this modest combo. It was applauded in the samurai culture for its thriftiness. It's almost like tasting history with every mouthful, what with the idea that 'raise the name (mochi)' sounds similar to 'raise the name (Nagoya)' in Japanese. A punful of history and aspiration with every spoonful, wouldn't you say? 😃✨🍲 You'd expect a hint of miso, considering Aichi's fondness for soybean paste. But wait, `Zouni` goes against the grain with a clear broth, might be a nod to special occasions warranting a break from the norm.🎉 Can't ignore those yummy greens in Aichi’s `Zouni`, almost like spinach but softer and sweeter. Locally grown and used in many dishes, they surely add a depth of flavor. Savor the magic of Aichi's winter through `Zouni`? It embodies history, simplicity, and comfort. Down in the southern part of Tokyo, in the shadow of Tokyo Tower, is Zojoji Temple. I like to think of Zojoji as a quieter, more peaceful alternative to the bustling Sensoji Temple in Asakusa. Unlike Sensoji, you can enter Zojoji’s main hall, and the sight of Tokyo Tower looming behind the main hall makes for a good photo. While there be sure to check out the rows of child statues off to the side of the main hall.
