On Saturday night I attended the opening reception for the exhibition “High Five!” at Blue Moon Gallery in Grayslake, Illinois. I had the opportunity to showcase my artwork with a roster of talented Southeastern Wisconsin and Northeastern Illinois based artists who worked in a variety of media. The opening reception was well attended. I was able to meet and chat with fellow artists, enjoy delicious refreshments and talk with gallery patrons about my artwork. It was an awesome evening. Saturday was a busy one of hanging two paintings in an area I cleared on the exterior wall of my shared art studio. I was still a little sore after taking down my Art display at the Marsh. It was up to me to get this done. I am still very thankful to have sold four original paintings and one print at the Marsh show within a two month period. I hope the flyer I created will be see by members of the Marsh that would like to buy my original paintings. After installing the two paintings, I went to Arts and Crafts time at Ridgedale Library which is hosted by my Humanitarian group. I created two new at tiles that need a little more work before showing. Then I got home to recover and eat dinner before heading to Torg to meet my friends Joel and Anna for a band called “Grunge Unplugged”. They were really talented and I enjoyed their covers of 90s grunge classics. I must add that I might of ignored mainstream radio in the 90s because I was mostly into local basement bands in college and into the shoegaze, dream pop, and atmospheric rock during the 90s. Pot luck of photos from today's event at @calavidafestival ☺️ Ever feel like you are being redirected and guided to where you are supposed to be? Do you resist? Or are you water? Do you flow? I'm getting pretty good at this least resistance thing and being unattached to outcomes has really helped my mindset. I've been saying YES. Even when I'm scared or uncertain and showing up for myself again and again. I know I make it look easier than it is. 🤣🤣 but really only because I always seek the positive. A unique string of events lead me to Calavida. Fun fact I've been working with this art festival for about a decade in some way or form. I was their point of contact for catering and event planning the first few years for the formal reception and always shyly wanted to ask if I could participate in some way but hesitated because of a conceived idea regarding conflict of interest, misguided loyalty and fear I might not have been good enough or perhaps not accepted if I asked. Rewind to a year ago, Sandra emailed me and asked if I'd like to participate in the kick off last spring- having figured out I was also an artist and I excitedly accepted. That evening was very slow. I made one sale, a rather large one to Van Royal her husband and an art collector. In fact he purchased from me and then gave me the tour of his office art gallery. To say I was thrilled is far shy of how I really felt. He and Sandra are amazing and kind people and I'm grateful to know them, and feel their support and friendship. Now let's fast forward to this year.. Sandra reached out and offered me a live painting gig, if I'm honest the first paid one. All the others have been free. I took a photo of the check and framed it. Lol I live painted at their local wine bar @redswinebar_gcs and had the best time, in fact Van once again claimed a painting- the one I was working on- and showed up today to pick it up and discuss a huge 4 panel suite of paintings he'd like to commission me to paint for him. A lot has changed. Is changing and every day I find a new synchronicity or uncover a dusty old path that was leading me uphill to where I am today. And I feel so grateful. 💛
