O "Lixo Extraordinário" é um filme documentário que retrata a vida diária dos catadores que, na gigantesca lixeira a céu aberto, separam, das toneladas de lixo que ali são despejadas todos os dias, os resíduos que podem ser reciclados. Até à data em que o Jardim Gramacho foi encerrado, em 2012, cerca de cinco mil homens e mulheres ali trabalhavam arduamente todos os dias, para garantir aquilo que nenhum sistema de gestão conseguia acautelar. We were in NYC earlier this week for the launch of the Planetary Guardians. It was very sobering to hear that the world is now beyond the "safe operating space for humanity" in six of the nine Planetary Boundaries. BUT it was inspiring a) to be reminded of success (with the ozone layer now on track for full recovery after the world paid attention and worked together to ban CFCs) and b) to be shown a path forward in relation to the nine Boundaries in an annual health check plan and c) to hear optimism. We know what the solutions are; we now 'just' need to implement them.
