This is now beginning to change.” Several wool pellet producers are currently in operation from coast to coast. Energy, environment, and climate ministers from the Group of Seven Nations have agreed for all their coal plants to cease operations by 2035, according to CNN. The ministers are gathered in Turin, Italy, to discuss future steps following the global pledge to transition to a cleaner future at the UN's COP28 climate summit. "We do have an agreement to phase out coal in the first half of the 2030s," Andrew Bowie, a minister representing the U.K., told Italian television channel Class CNBC. "This is, by the way, a historic agreement, something that we weren't able to achieve at COP28 in Dubai last year." The U.S., which is part of the G7 alongside Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the U.K., declined to comment on the agreement. The Sockists had a meeting recently and decided to make an A3 poster to send out with a letter to as many organisations and individuals as possible, asking them to help to spread their message and support their project. Sockist 38 volunteered to make a lino print but hadn't realised just how long it would take to do the fiddly letters and was a bit miffed that some of the other Sockists seemed to enjoy watching rather than helping. Fortunately Sockist 38 had enormous reserves of stamina and pressed on cutting out a few letters every day for a couple of weeks. The poster is now ready to print. As it is all done by hand it will take the Sockists a while and they will probably get very inky in the process. They're thinking of printing it in either prussian blue or magenta. One of my favorite aspects of social media is its ability to connect us with people who not only share our concerns—like climate change—but also inspire us with fresh perspectives and ideas. Take Isaias Hernandez, aka the @queerbrownvegan, for instance. I often find myself shouting "YES!" before sharing his posts. That is why I am very excited to have him guest edit my latest newsletter edition. His good news this week highlights the European Union’s lowest level of carbon emission in 60 years. He says: To turn this decline into a global trend, a new report from the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit says, we need four things. 1. The EU must continue to cut energy demand through efficiency and even more clean energy 2. India needs to secure funding to replace their planned coal expansion with solar 3. China must continue to roll out new renewables faster than anyone else 4. The US Inflation Reduction Act needs to keep driving private investment in the solar, efficiency, and EV markets Standing against this progress are the world’s fossil fuel interests. Many companies continue to promote “discourses of delay,” as The Harvard Gatte says. And in recent months, oil and gas CEOs have publicly blamed consumers for climate change and claimed that phasing out fossil fuels is a fantasy. Despite this, the European Union has already reduced their emissions substantially.
