Do you know about heat stroke in dogs? The cause of heat stroke in dogs is exposure to hot or humid environments or from overly strenuous exercise. The most common cause is leaving a dog in a car with inadequate ventilation. In this situation, a dog's body temperature can elevate very rapidly, often in minutes. Dogs can not control their body temperature by sweating since they only have sweat glands located in their footpads, so they rely on panting to regulate their body temperature. Clinical signs of heatstroke can include heavy panting, dry or sticky gums, abnormal gum color, bruising in the gums, lethargy or disorientation, or even Seizures Heat stroke is something that can be preventable, and here's how. Foxtail seeds - something to be aware of as the weather warms up! 😅 The plant is often times referred to as “wild barley” and they have these bushy spikes that resemble a fox’s tail, hence the name. Each little row of the bushy spikes have barbs on them pointing the opposite way from the tip. You can’t really see them but you can easily feel when you touch them. When the plant is green the foxtails aren’t nearly as dangerous however, when they dry up is when they break apart into small spikelets and grab onto anything now that those tiny little spikes are dry. The purpose of this is for the plant to disperse the seeds! When they latch on or become lodged, it’ll keep burrowing deeper into your dogs coat, skin, paws, nose and genitals if not spotted in time due to how those little spikes are made. Easiest way to avoid these is not allowing your dog to run and sniff in areas where they are at. I fredags havde vi besøg af søde Bonsai, der skulle have renset sine tænder🦷 Hans værdier i anæstesien var flotte under hele narkosen 📋 og han klarede sit ophold rigtig flot. Han ville faktisk slet ikke hjem igen 🐾 vi glæder os til at få besøg af søde Bonsai igen. Viste du☝🏼 At vi altid tager røntgenbilleder af tænderne på din hund og kat, når vi har dem til tandbehandling. Da omkring halvdelen af de dyr vi møder, ikke fejler noget i munden med det blotte øje. We saw a dog in the waiting room who could barely stand because of it, its owner had it cuddled in a blanket as it was so frail. It passes from dog to dog easily, by playing together, sharing balls, through urine and faeces. It can kill dogs, especially puppies, elderly and the already ill.
