My first ever book reading and signing was better than I expected… thanks to a great community, old friends, a hard-working husband, and a proud momma who had no problem warming up the crowd 😂. Cause let's face it, this beast I see before me is not the being I feel so deeply in my soul....⠀ ⠀ I saw this and thats the first thing that came to mind and it made me chuckle. And as much as I would love to leave a joke at the expense of us DFs, I feel it's good to dig into this a little too.⠀ ⠀ The gap between our soul self and human self can be massive sometimes. Especially for the Divine Masculine collective.⠀ ⠀ What sometimes happens is we, the DF will experience our DM on a soul level and then we will experience them on a human level and the two are about as comparable as apples to oranges. They're both fruit and grown in trees but that's about where the similarities end.⠀ ⠀ The soul self is unburdened by the human life's conditioning and trauma. So it makes sense that they are loving and supportive and feel so good. Like amazeballs. Like who are you and where have you been my whole life??⠀ ⠀ Then we experience the traumatized human self and it doesn't take much get the defensive haunches of the protective ego standing on end. Who is this mother effer and what did you do to my beloved prince charming??? I might cut a butch about it, idk.⠀ ⠀ But, just because the human self is incapable of operating the way we know they are capable, doesn't make the feelings any less true. ⠀ ⠀ Also, sometimes, the DF's energetic and intuitive gifts are so closely tied to their connection that when the physical proof isn't aligning with what their intuition is saying, they begin to doubt everything.⠀ ⠀ Not just the connection, but also their ability to trust what their intuition is showing them.⠀ ⠀ So what to do about this? When you open my book for the first time, you’ll find the endorsements page. Despite having published a book before, this was a new process for me, and incredibly vulnerable to ask people to take the time to read my work and openly support it. I asked some (mildly) insta-famous ex-boyfriends to endorse my book (mainly because publishers were interested in their followers). BUT, they respectfully declined (actually they failed to respond at all), but much like how I felt at the end of those relationships . . . their loss! All jokes aside, my friends and family are the opinions I value most. I once had a publisher not only decline my book, but point out my lack of a social media following by saying, “no one cares who you are to read what you have to say.” So! Once upon a time I lived in California where I never brushed my hair and proudly hung my art… in public bathrooms. You gotta start somewhere! Around the same time I stumbled upon comedy and met some amazing people along the way. I open up a lot for the first time in my new book KINDA FUNNY about how difficult it can be as a female in the male dominated industry of comedy. One of the few good fellows who not only made me feel welcome, but believed in me and gave me opportunity after opportunity was @markchristopherlawrence. Regardless of what he thought of my bathroom art, he was quick to remind me that I had comedy chops and reminded me to believe in myself when I forgot.
