This was the studio yesterday! Gloriously messy and I was in full flow with these colour studies. I was in my total element mixing and layering colours with different textures and techniques. Today it was under an inch of water and I lost all the work that's on the floor😢 as well as books full of older work. I'm pretty gutted. My lovely neighbour helped me stop the pumping water and clear everything out. In some ways I needed a good clear out and to get rid of a lot of older work. I don't have the room to keep everything. But I wasn't ready to get rid yet!! Luckily I had all my larger paintings and commissions hanging on the walls, so at least those are still OK! #mmhadvocacyday How I felt then….With my 2nd daughter I thought it would be easier because I’d done it already…little did I know. Birth: Active labour from 6am and we were home by 6pm the same day due to Covid. Immediate postpartum: Hyperemesis hadn’t completely gone away, adjusting to two was insane, I was in extreme pain due to retained products, needing 2 more hospital stays with a newborn and without my eldest. Tongue tie so extremely painful feeding until she got the snip. Issues with friends, acquiring a second business, still growing my 1st business and the overall knowledge I only had 2 weeks to recover before my first event. Thinking about it now, I have no idea how I got through it. It sounds surreal. But we did get through and at some point it got easier to manage and here we are. My husband picked up a LOT of the slack including with my eldest. I was missing her but had to focus on the newest member of our family and hope it doesn’t scar her future! What would I tell myself back then if I could: Ignore everybody. Focus on yourself and your babies. Don’t allow anybody into your space mentally or physically until you are ready. Make sure that the room is safe (hide cords, secure furniture, minimize distractions, etc) before moving your child out of the crib. You may find that using a tall gate at the door is a helpful tool. The gate can be introduced to your child as a tool to help their body remember when it's time to stay in bed. It can be really tempting to stay with your child in the bed as they fall asleep to ensure that they don't get up. If this works for you, go for it. Just be careful not to start any habits that you don't want to continue long term. The crib to bed transition is a big step that highlights that your child is growing up. I received terrible news last week. But, it’s darkly humorous… I’M ALLERGIC TO DOGS. 😭 I know. I can’t believe it. I’m a walking contradiction. It’s hilariously awful. And I may or may not be having an identity crisis. 😅 As you may recall, I’ve been struggling with minor health issues for months. Every. Single. Day. Since early Aug, I’ve awoken with swollen, itchy, burning eyes that worsen throughout the day. I’ve consulted doctors, cut out face products, switched shampoos, adjusted my diet, drugged myself with every over the counter medication/remedy you could think of, but…nothing made a dent. We determined it could be an environmental factor- did our house have a mold problem? Dust? Pollen? I changed my routine, stayed at friends’ houses, & deep cleaned. We worked tirelessly to pinpoint the issue to no avail. My anxiety was at an all time high- it consumed all of my thoughts & left me hopeless day after day. After months of losing my mind I was finally able to get in to an Allergist. I couldn’t wait for answers. I went through an extensive allergy testing panel & was pricked/injected 96 times. It was intense. Then, my doctor relayed the news… out of ALL 96 ALLERGENS, I reacted to one. ONLY ONE...that wasn’t even on my radar. DOGS. 😫 I somehow developed a significant allergy even though I’ve had dogs for 8 years. It’s been hard to accept, as it requires HUGE life adjustments. I’m trying new meds, nasal sprays, eye drops, supplements & sleeping alone. It’s a bummer, but… THE DOGS STAY. Saying goodbye to them would be more painful than the daily pain in my eyeballs. I can’t fathom life without them. I’m planning upon embarking upon the extensive journey of immunotherapy. But, have a long wait ahead of me until I can do so. WHY am I telling you this? A. Because at the end of the day, it’s pretty hilarious & hopefully relatable. 😅 & B. I NEED YOUR ADVICE. I know there must be allergic dog loving folks here (or friends/family) that can have their dogs & pet them too. HELP! What has worked for you? Meds? Routine? Supplements? Coping strategies? Mental shifts? Any recs (or commiseration 😆) is so appreciated. Sincerely, A walking oxymoron. 🐕 🤧
