Long post alert… Eleven Ranikhet winters and counting..This one takes the prize for being the driest and bleakest winter in the last decade. No rain clouds, no snow, no foggy gray days, no green clouds of parrots gorging on acorns, no HD pictures of the shining Himalayan peaks. Yes, there is frost, there are blue skies with brilliant sunshine, there are misty blurred mountains in the distance, and there are forest fires. One can choose to berate mankind and global warming and loss of El Nino and busloads of tourists..Or one can choose to be warm enough to enjoy long walks through dramatic treescapes, look up to lock eyes with an inquisitive monkey or kite, and contemplate the lessons of Nature. Trees (and knitting collectives) grow a bit, shed leaves (and knitters) a bit, wait for the season to change (and customers to return), sprout some new foliage (put out some new designs), grow taller and greener (increase in number and skill levels), and then grow a bit. That’s exactly how NTSM has grown, from six bewildered knitters and one fledgling teacher, to twenty two smart and zingy knitters with a wizened teacher who has roped in supporters, designers, photographers and others into the circle. However bleak the winter, spring and summer will come! Today's daily prompt of the CYF Insta Challenge is Intro / my WIPs. Hi, I am Helen and I love to knit and crochet! I run Woolly Chic which specialises in British Wool and ethical yarns. I sell a beautiful range of Welsh wool, spun from the fleece of sheep farmed by my cousin, organic Fair Trade cotton and a brand new environmentally friendly 4ply and DK yarn called HeartSpun. HeartSpun is a blend of 70% British Bluefaced Leicester wool and 30% Tencel, made from wood pulp grown in sustainable forests. Started a new project. I can't quilt in the rental so I'm knitting a blanket instead! I'm hoping the really chunky wool and herringbone knitting pattern will make sure it grows really fast. Our kitchen has mid-grey units and I'm planning pink/blush walls to add warmth as its north facing so this blanket should add some texture and warmth on the sofa in the sitting area.
