I did it! I ripped back to just before the end of clue 3 and I’m re-knitting with my original lemony-citrine choice of ‘pop’. And, as I suspected, I love the subtle pop/fade I’m getting as the ‘birds’ start to appear. Now I’m playing catch up, with clue 5 already waiting and clue 6 just around the corner, but it’s worth it! I threaded a lifeline through an obvious ‘knit’ round with a darning needle just after the final increase round and there were a few stitches facing the wrong way and yarn overs that needed tweaking/adding as I worked the first row but as I’ve got the pattern formation properly sussed it wasn’t too onerous! Clue 5 of the @curioushandmade #TwentyFourBirdsMKAL landed in my inbox this morning right on cue, just as my ‘birds’ (clue 4) successfully fledged! Swipe to see a tiny section of a shawl that’s now way too big to photograph flat without a lot more cable! I chose the vibrant orangey coral ‘and still I run’ for my pop, which was a change from my original colour D selection and I am loving that vibrant coral/lemony-lime combo but… I’m kinda regretting not sticking with my less ‘poppy’ (in all senses!) first choice of ‘my own reflection’ (swipe to see the original line-up). Do I rip it back and re-knit? I’m really a ‘process’ knitter when it comes to shawls. I love knitting them – especially circular shawls – but I rarely wear them. Truth is I live in my Sophie Scarf all winter… So, if I’m unlikely to ever really actually wear it, does it matter that I’d probably prefer the less ‘poppy’ pop? Probably not. But I’m still *very* tempted to rip back and change it anyway! If you swipe through to the final picture, you can see where the switch would kick in. My shawl would be all the shades of sage, lime, and lemon with just those tiny coral and peach pops and I think I might love it! As a creative, we get some HEAT for this kinda stuff. I recently disclosed to a friend that I don't really check how many likes or comments my social media gets. I'm a creative... 🤣🤪 Analysing (too closely) takes the fun out of it for me. Now don't get me wrong... I am not willynilly creating content and hoping for the best. I still have an overall viewpoint of how my content performs and what resonates more than others. But I do not obsess over it. I enjoy the process of creating it and check in once very 90 days to make sure nothing is amiss. I just realized that I never shared this little witch with you, so I’m starting the week with a dose of witchy magic. 🤗 I painted this around Halloween last year (for my Patreon loves) and that magical season always translates into a palette that seems to linger between sunset and dusk. 🎨 This little witch doesn’t have a name yet, but I picture her casting spells and brewing potions in an enchanted forest where the leaves and florals are enveloped in soft shades of purples, blues, pinks and yellow. It isn’t quite nighttime, but her hair holds the dust of a million stars and her robe softly reflects the colors of the forest; almost as if the sunset decided to sink into the fibers of the fabric. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of painting bookish witches and cute creatures haha. Creating art can be such an interesting adventure and there are plenty of days where I wonder how it actually works and how I come up with ideas. The start of any design feels like a hazy dream. A dream where I collect fragments of references and snippets of my own thoughts, feelings and imagination and somewhere along the lines, pencil lines fuse them all together and peeks into little magical worlds appear on paper. Creating art can also feel very vulnerable and for a long time, it was very challenging to show up for my art and myself. Despite being a rambler, talking about it in more depth felt not doable as I had to pivot what I was doing. Pivoting felt a lot like standing still and surrendering at times. I couldn’t put myself in a neat little box anymore and it didn’t feel safe to share more of the creative process on IG anymore. One of the ways I began to create a safe place where I could feel my imagination again was when I listened to the nudge to re-launch my Patreon. I didn’t understand it, it felt like “more work”, but in hindsight, it opened up the path to find a slower pace with creating. And in turn, I became curious about my creativity again. It’s a safe space for me, for my patrons and a way to connect even more with me. 🥰 The dragon designs hold a lot of symbolism, from the impressions of mountains to the bamboo and the three birds in the distance. Even the titles hold a specific energy; from sending wishes to the moon (Lunar Wishes) to Breathing Strength back into self as you reconnect with the world and people around you (Soul Friends) which in turn continues to Reawaken your Creative Spirit. It’s a never ending magical cycle. This design, Lunar Wishes with the little musing, was a gift that I added with the monthly goodies for my Patrons in February, to celebrate the magic of the Year of the Wood Dragon. 🥰 I’ve explored a lot of themes since I re-launched Patreon, but I feel that the Dragon theme this year is one is the most important ones I’ve worked on so far. It signified a new beginning in many ways for me.
