A controversial topic perhaps, but one I feel strongly about. As ever I caveat this with I understand it is very difficult to be responsive in our society and I know that people’s circumstances differ. However, as someone who’s four years into her motherhood journey and yet to sleep through the night, I think I can say with some certainty, that no matter how tired and worn down I was (or have been) ignoring my children’s cries in the night has never been an option. When I became a mum I was totally confused. My son didn’t want to go in his next to me. Why not? The books hadn’t told me about this. He only wanted to sleep on me night and day. I fought it as I was consumed by the sleep training industries push for independence and separation. Scared I would ruin my baby if I didn’t get him off of me and into a cot. A few months of sleepless nights and failed transfers later and I began my co sleeping journey. Four years on and two children later, we are still on it and honestly, I love it. I love having my children close during the night. In fact I struggle to sleep without them there (please tell me I’m not the only one!) The strict schedules never worked for us either. They ruined our day and nobody was happy. I also gave up on them early on and adopted a “you’ll sleep when you’re tired” method. Lo and behold they both slept where ever and we were never tied to the house. This worked for us. I know this way is not for everyone and that’s absolutely fine. I’m just saying if it is what you want to do, that is also absolutely fine. Just try to push out the outside noise of media, propaganda, society, family and friends, and tune in to what feels right for you and your baby. It just so happens this way of doing it is backed up by heaps of research. Do you feel like you’re always running around trying to get ahead? Do you feel exhausted and like you are never doing enough? You might be experiencing burn out and perfectionism resulting from the multitude of daily tasks that pile up and make life feel overwhelming. Motherhood comes with it a barrage of tiny daily tasks (in addition to the big ones) that can send us into a tailspin of constant preparation and planning. But how do you slow down when there is so much to do? The infinite needs of our families are real and being told to “do less” or “slow down” can feel like gaslighting the motherhood experience. There are ways that we can manage our lives differently by improving nervous system regulation and decreasing perfectionistic thinking. Perfectionism in women can be extremely hard to let go of, especially if you had childhood trauma or were always expected to be high achieving. Shifting your perspective into believing that your work is “good enough” may feel like the rug is being pulled out from under you or that your safety is being taken away. Deep breaths Mama, this work takes time and support from a caring support system and professionals who understand. The work will get done and you can enjoy your life and your children. A life that brings you joy, may not look like what you expected. And it can be better than what you ever thought was possible

I woke up at 5 am, thinking my water broke and after a Jonathan took a peak, it indeed did. lol. I was 25, in the process of healing old wounds and scared out of my mind about this next chapter in my life. But, i had the most amazing man by my side, Gods promise (they told us I’d never have my own children after cancer surgery) and the strongest yearning to be the best mother I could ever be. London, you grew with me, you loved me when it was hard to love myself and you gave me a reason to live when i wasn’t sure I had one. Watching you blossom into the young lady that you are had been a true dream come true. I hope you know just how proud of you we are! Maybe you were never taught healthy coping skills for managing BIG feelings when YOU were a kid. Maybe big feelings were frowned upon or punished, so you learned to push your feelings way, way down. 💔 These traumas become our triggers as parents—we get triggered when our kid is crying, when they're having a meltdown, when they have a "bad attitude." Yeah, as you are, your hair may start hurting if it’s up, doesn’t matter what hair tie/clip you use, it will need adjusting every hour or so 😑. Underwear! There is a reason your mom was wearing those ugly granny panties, and now I know why 😭. Constantly needing arch support, barefoot is for the sadists these days. I need shoes on with some cushion, as much as humanly possible! I considered all of these made sense after 40, but noooooo! She only went and smashed it!! Today Derry had an appointment at the hospital with a play specialist to try get a blood test. She’s got a lot of medical things going on but she TERRIFIED of all things medical. We were given a bed and I thought we were going to be there hours! It did take a lot of convincing and tears but she just decided I’m doing this. She stuck her thumb straight out and said DO IT! 💪🏻 she smashed it so proud of her! In a fight or flight moment having the courage to do the scary thing when your mind and body are telling you not to is a huge accomplishment. Go our Derry doo! I was quiet for too long, but I can’t worry about hurting people’s feelings. I’ve been in business for over 8 years now, and I have seen 𝙖 𝙡𝙤𝙩 of stuff. When I walked away from my last company, I left everything and I was company hunting for months without anyone knowing. I didn’t just blindly walk into something. I know NOW what to look for, and what I wouldn’t dare step into again. I’ve seen too many people get hurt, go into debt, and forget who they are. Someone trying to pitch you the next best side hustle? ALWAYS ask for receipts. The TRUTH is ENOUGH!! If they won’t show you, it’s because what they are toting doesn’t align with what’s actually going on.
