I live in a small #condoneighborhood And many of us homeowners have been here since these condos were built. We all look out for each other! My neighbor across the street has been here Since these units were built. Marie lives alone now since her mom pass at 102 years old... As I was loading the van for the @theoldtownfleamarket she was watching me ...then realized she locked herself out of her house. She really panicked! I called a locksmith. But I knew it would be out of her budget. In comes more neighbors. Alan offered to climb a ladder to get to her only open window, upstairs! I offered our ladder. Bret came and held the ladder and lended support! And a few joke's... Marie was so amazed.!! Alan was in, replaced the screen and opened the door for her! She was so thankful for neighbors she can call for assistance! #neighborhelpingneighbors We all look out for each other and try to keep our small neighborhood safe! It was a group effort... And now Marie is safe inside...and always wishes me good luck when she sees me load up for #vintagemarkets... #condolife #knowyourneighbor

Spring’s here. Some days feel like summer. Cooking outside is a happy place for many people, including me. It’s also a great time to invite neighbors over for a shared meal and a chance to become better acquainted. Shared time. Shared stories. Shared meals. It’s an easy way to show curiosity and kindness...and maybe even help the world become a better place one neighborhood at a time. #neighbors #smokingmeat #outdoorcooking #knowyourneighbor #sharestories #sharestories #kindness #onekindactaday #nathanjarvisart

Obligatory post to honor national #northdakota day! This day is special to me because I lived there for a brief time in life with a prior company who moved me and my family. #knowyourneighbor My wife says she went kicking and screaming, along with our son who had his third birthday there. We didn’t take many photos then because we didn’t think it was something we’d want to remember. Our goal was to get transferred out as soon as possible. However, when we both look back now, we have an appreciation for the experience and our time there. Everything happens with God’s purpose in mind, and though this wasn’t an easy time, it had value. We sold our big, beautiful home and moved across country—first into a friends basement in the desolate town of Glenn Ulin and then to the “big town” of Dickinson, where we stayed in a two bedroom apartment. (Slide to see.) Our favorite part of our time there was our neighbors (mostly other employees) who became some of our best friends in life, and the community recreation center, which was walking distance to us. It was impressive then, but if you slide through the photos, you’ll see how it’s expanded now! A town with just a few mom & pop restaurants, boutiques and a Walmart—the University of Dickinson was the main attraction. You can’t say there’s nothing to do unless you’ve lived here lol. We spent a lot of time target practicing in the corn fields on hay bales. It was there we learned quality family time, how simple life can be the most rewarding and enjoying traveling to see parts of the country we never would have seen otherwise. It was beautiful—COLD—but beautiful. North Dakota will always have a place in our hearts. Where’s my NoDak people? Let us know if you’ve ever been! #midwest #memories #badlands #ndsunflowers #smalltown #traveling #retrospect #lifeadventures #keystoneagent #likeagoodneighbor

Everyone loves a cooking grandmother, keeper of the family recipes, master of her craft. With no need for cookbooks, she learned from countless hours leaning over stovetops, dispensing judicious pinches of this and splashes of that. If you aren’t lucky enough to have one of your own to learn from, don’t despair. Nearby, you’ll find grandmas willing to ladle out lessons to a new generation of home cooks. . Which is what brings me to a hilly neighborhood in San Carlos. I’m on a quest for kimchi. But I won’t be learning this well-known Korean dish of tangy fermented cabbage in a typical cooking class. For a start, it’s the first one I’ve taken in my socks. And I’m not slicing veggies on a stainless-steel countertop in a commercial kitchen, but on a sturdy wooden table in a room with family photos and funky abstract art. Not under the direction of a polished culinary school graduate, but a venerable Korean grandmother who effortlessly eyeballs rather than measures her ingredients. . Grandma Moon Soon Choi is one of the Grandmas from Around the World, a cooking series hosted by The Moonlight Collective. The San Carlos organization offers “authentic and intimate experiences guided by locals right around the corner." . From the outside, PlaceMakers might pass as your run-of-the-mill San Carlos warehouse—albeit a welcoming one with a cheery coat of barn-red paint. But step inside and the first thing you’ll notice are the vintage chandeliers. Victorian brass with glass bells. Wrought iron wagon wheels with candles. Dangly tiers of teardrops. Crystal beaded domes. They collectively shimmer below the corrugated metal roof in all their stately grandeur like grand ladies at court. . When you manage to pry your eyes from the ceiling, you’ll find an entire treasure trove of salvaged building materials and artifacts (many of them antique) filling the space. Clawfoot bathtubs and stained glass windows. Boxes of keys and boxes of doorknobs. A turn-of-the-20th-century wrought iron Juliet balcony. A Victorian roll-top secretary desk. Enough doors to inspire a symphony of knocking. Together, these reclaimed relics rival the collections of many a history museum. . The visionary and mastermind here is James Dawes. He runs PlaceMakers, a contracting company with a knack for repurposing salvaged materials. . Images by: Annie Barnett Words by: Me . Last stop, we delivered a picnic bench to Woodstock Park. Spring is now here and we are so excited to be bringing back the Arlington Art Truck in April. Before we do that, we are finishing up Michael Verdon’s, “Good Neighbors: Fences into Benches”! Last fall, Arlington Art Truck visitors wrote and shared their ideas on what it means to be a good neighbor on fences across the county. Now the 48 linear feet of community-decorated fences have been urethane sealed and are being made into public picnic tables for all to gather and continue the discussion. Today Arlington Parks staff distributed the picnic tables to community requested sites across the County. When distributing the tables with County park staff, we got to see first-hand their dedication to the parks: they are guardians of these very important spaces where our communities connect and grow. By the end, we were talking about how important picnic tables are to create special “hang out” spots in our parks. Special shout out goes to all the Parks staff who make our shared spaces loved spaces, and all their hard work. We are really looking forward to seeing you all at the Arlington Art Truck in 2024!! When you are in Arlington, come to one of our hang out spots! See a map of locations in our stories or grid! Here is where they are in Arlington, Virginia: 3700 South Four Mile Run Drive, Garden at Drew Park, Alcova Heights Park, Tyrol Hill Park, Lubber Run Community Center and Woodstock Park.   #arttruckarlington #arlingtonarttruck #arlingtonarts  #arlingtonva  #freeevents #artoftheday #artistsofinstagram  #fencestobenches #michaelverdon #whatmakesagoodneighbor  #RACE #RacialEquity #Access #ConnectingCommunities #KnowYourNeighbor #BreakingBarriers #CrossCulturalCommunication #BeTheChange #ThePowerOfStorytelling #CourageousConversations #ArlingtonArtWalk #ExploreArt #Culture #ExploreArlington #ArtExhibition #Creativity #AllInArlington #hangouts @michael.verdon @arlingtonvalib @arlingtoncountyva @arlparksrec @columbiapikeva

New picnic bench at the Garden at Drew Park! Self care comes in so many forms - it can be plant medicine, eating good food, earthing, resting, stretching, pushing yourself out of your comfort zone, and finding joy and wonder in our surroundings, to name a few things. There truly is something special about our little spot on Friendly Pooch Lane, smack dab in the woods, on a southward sloping hill with a terraced garden, with earth tended by the legendary Bill Dow. The first time I set foot here, I breathed easier. Truly. We love sharing the farm with others, but it hasn't always been easy to do when we're all over the place and working 70+ hour work weeks. This new thing we're doing with the CSA-market do-si-do should help us offer more chances for us to share the farm with our CSA members and other community members. We're offering on farm workshops this year. We're having open farm days for members to come hang out, have a picnic, and take a tour. And we're holding our usual farm events (planting and harvests parties), plus hopefully a couple of new ones too! We're so excited to be able to have the time to have more folks out to the farm. Because it really does feel good to be here. And to share in each other's company. And the cool thing is that this is a form of self care for us, too! We're going to miss connecting with folks on the weekly when we're breaking from markets, but we're hoping that these events will help us connect more deeply (it's not always easy to have full fledged convos at market)- and also encourage folks who love our veggies to build connections with each other too. . . . #csaweek2024 #selfcare #communitycare #connection #knowyourfarmer #knowyourneighbor #eatlikeafarmer #healthiswealth

Happy #nationalpaczkiday ! These polish traditional pastries are donuts, but have more of a bread like dough. I grew up in a heavily polish area as a kid, so fried dough is something I’m accustom to, even without the filling. 🍩 #knowyourneighbor @bethelbakery is a local favorite that we get them at. I got black forrest, buttercream, raspberry, chocolate buttercream, Bavarian cream (my favorite). I snagged some pretzel and regular glazed. 🥨 Who’s had a paczki? Are you a fan? If not, that’s ok, share what your favorite Bethel pastry is! 🥐🧁🍪 #supportthecommunity #localbusiness #keystoneagent #donutguy #pączki #bakery #mcmurraypa #washingtoncountyfood #goodeats #aroundtown #supportsmallbusiness #fellowsmallbusinessowner #northstrabanetownship #likeagoodneighbor

Day 3 As we take steps to know our neighbor, we will be surprised how we have common interests, goals, and life plans. This can bring about connections and opportunities that help with building from dreams to reality. Sometimes, we need someone else to help with the execution. Today is #nationaltoothacheday which is a perfect opportunity to spotlight local dentist, Dr. Mark Buzzatto DDS and the staff at the @nutradentist just outside of Upper St Clair, PA. My family are patients here and Dr. Lauren, Dr. Mark’s sister, is also a customer of mine—so I’m happy that we support each other. What makes NutraDentist different? 🦷🌱 They practice Holistic Dentistry. Holistic, or Biological Dentistry seeks the safest, least toxic way to accomplish treatment. This includes all the goals of modern dentistry while treading as lightly as possible on the patient’s biological terrain. They believe the mouth is an important part of the health of the whole person. This office is also unique in dentistry with it’s relaxing spa-like atmosphere. Their services extend to nutrition consultations, wellness products, an infrared sauna, and salt therapy room. My wife, who spent nearly a decade teaching toxin-free living and essential oil classes, especially loves their use of oils in both cleanings and aromatherapy—that was an instant win for her lol. #knowyourneighbor What questions do you have about how Holistic Dentistry can help you and your health journey?👇🏻 Be sure to ❤️ this post and FOLLOW me here to learn more about my community and support local businesses! #smallbusinessownersupportingsmallbusinessowners #holisitichealth #holisticdentist #biologicaldentist #pittsburghdentistry #holisticwellness #washingtoncountypa #alleghenycountypa #communitysupport #localbusinessspotlight

Meet Pamela Thomas! 👩🏻‍💻 Pamela is our sales and support team member who is currently serving as the role of Life/Health Specialist. She has been with us since the agency doors opened in December 2016 and is much more than a team member—she is like family. Pamela is licensed and able to assist with Auto, Home, and Life insurance in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. ✅ She is a 🎓graduate of Robert Morris University where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Master’s in Business and is a licensed in this area. Currently residing in Washington County, Pamela lives with her husband, Larry, of 30+ years. They have two children, Jake and Rebekah. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Fun fact: Pamela loves the zoo but her favorite animal is a dog—actually—all dogs! 🐕 Sophie, a leonberger, is her fur baby and is a gentle giant. A typical day in the office for Pam involves taking calls 📞 from policy holders to ask questions or make changes to their policies. She talks 🗣with families about life insurance, their auto and home coverages, and making sure that they understand how they are protected. She’s Matthew’s right (and sometimes left) ✋🏻 hand in many respects, allowing him more time to help his community. One of her favorite office duties is vacuuming the carpets! 😉😂 Help me show Pamela some love by ❤️ this post and wave 👋🏻 hello! 📷: @lauramaresphoto #teammember #employeespotlight #supportrole #staff #morethananemployee #customerservice #howmayihelpyou #keystoneagent #washingtoncountypa #washcopa #insurance #licensed #doglover #funfact #knowyourneighbor #likeagoodneighbor #smallbusiness

So this happened. It was an honour and great fun to be part of a special seminar commemorating 200 years of Badshah Wajid Ali Shah at the prestigious Department of History, Jadavpur University as a fellow speaker. Seen here presenting a dialogue on the built architecture of Nawab's Matiaburj along with eminent award winning architect Mr Anindya Basu. Chaired by the fantastic Madhuja Mukherjee. This was followed by a marathon walking tour of the neighbourhood itself with what will easily be the largest group I'll perhaps ever lead...a total of 120+ students and professors showed up! Fantastic and inspiring. Here leaving a few pictures and the hope of not losing our shared and common heritage. The event was co-hosted and organised but none other than @kynbengal . Thank you Mr Basu for pulling me in. Thank you JU. #heritagewalk #seminar #wajidalishah #knowyourneighbor #200yearsofwas #jadavpuruniversity #breakfreetrails

"Not only are you bringing great events to the streets, you're also making elevator conversations in my building way better!" 🤣 (An audience member at one of our events at Word Up reported that a neighbor he had never met in his elevator struck up a concert about our music following a concert. 😊 ) We LOVE stories like these! Bringing neighbors together, literally helping form a relationship that may not have existed otherwise, is what drives us to create these community performances.
