It took me having three children to feel like a confident mother. Three. I was such a nervous, new mom with Sophia. I never let her out of my sight, I didn’t even put her into daycare until she was almost a year old. I suffered in silence from postpartum depression, anxiety, and rage with Leo. Always crying at work, always holding him when I was at home, I never liked anyone touching him. Ava, sweet baby Ava. She has saved me in so many ways I can’t even put it into words. Being pregnant with her was hard, but giving birth to her was so beautiful. Everything was on our terms, no one intervened, no one pushed me to do anything I didn’t want to do. Mongolian Spots; let’s talk. When I gave birth to Sophia I remember asking Javier over thirty times if she had all of her fingers and toes. After a few hours I was looking over her body and saw dark marks along her back and above her butt. I sobbed. I thought she had been bruised from being born. Come to find out she had what is known as Mongolian spots, which is common in Hispanic, Black, Native American, Asian, and East Indian children. (Any children with melanin in their skin). Leonardo and Ava were also born with spots above their little booties, you can see Ava’s in this picture🤗 For some families, the spots are large and on other locations of their bodies. Make sure your pediatrician makes note of them.
