For #fragrantfriday...a quick look back at my recent visit to Les Senteurs in London. At home in NYC, perfume-shopping just isn't what it used to be, for various reasons. On this trip, however, I had a few experiences that reminded me how much I value the conversations, the sensory focus, the surroundings, the slowing of time, all the intangibles that can make visits to certain retailers so memorable. It's not just about the purchased items (as precious as those can be, especially when the shop in question offers high-quality fragrances). 🛍️👃💐 Last year, I had that kind of visit with @maya.njie.perfumes and Angela Flanders. This time around, Perfumer H and Les Senteurs were standouts. Today I would like to present one of the most intriguing new British brands. Shiraz Parfums is run by its creator, founder and nose Aitzaz Mirza. This excellent perfume house offers 6 magnificent fragrances. This brand has fascinating stories behind all of their perfumes as they are dedicated and are a tribute to Aitzaz’s father. Taaj was his mother’s name, Lahore is his home city, and 1952 the year he was born. After being paralyzed he received treatment in Kingston upon Thames and after his recovery he became the first Asian mayor of it. I have tried the entire collection which is truly amazing but one of the perfumes was my love at first sniff. It is the mighty Lahore which is absolutely marvelous. This perfume is really striking and captivating. It is deep, rich, and bold. It contains two different types of Oud of the highest standard. When you try Lahore you can smell the quality. The rich opening of Saffron, Oud Samrat and Oud Assam is really spectacular and phenomenal. Then comes Labdanum with Benzoin which are deep and ravishing. The base contains earthy Vetiver mixed with sensuous White Musk. Lahore is outstanding for me and I can highly recommend this beguiling beauty. Like anything in its adolescence, this account is still discovering its look and feel! @violet.parfums Abîme made me do something I *never* do. I smelled it at @lessenteurs, fell in love, and instead of leaving with a sample that I’d make myself drain first, I left with a whole bottle. Peppery, with a glorious rich, incense-y (and almost mentholated) palo santo, and a beautiful mix of creamy sandalwood and dried cedar. Despite its heady spices, Abîme is so beautifully delicate. Though not listed, there is an almost milky note that tones down everything to make it an easy everyday spray. Incensy, with a charcoal smokiness, allows for a rich woody composition which is seen through the top and base notes. The woodiness is enriched through notes of Patchouli, Cypriol, Guiacwood and Oud allowing for an oriental experience.
