Today was our first league game for a couple of weeks and we welcomed Louth Fc to our ground. We knew we couldn't go into this game thinking we was going to get an easy ride and we certainly didn't. The 1st half we started brightly and went 3-0 up after I scored then Fras and Toby. Louth knew they needed to press harder, they managed to get 2 goals, 1 from a peno 🙈. Half-time 3-2 and everything to play for. 2nd half we played much better, plenty of passing and we played with composure. Fras scored another and I managed to bag myself another 3 some from rebounds (right place, right time) end score 7-2! Yesterday we played Saxilby we have met previously in a league friendly which we lost. This meant more as it was a league game and with our run of bad luck we needed a win. We started out a little slow but quickly realised that Saxilby had turned up thinking it would be an easy game especially after their 1st goal. We proved them wrong soon after. We worked hard as a team and they struggled to keep us pushed back. My 1st goal was a run from our box to theirs and managed to slide it past the keeper. Cam got our 2nd from a fab long ranger and Saxilby had started to panic. Ponte hosted a very good Halifax side and with the game being played in gale force conditions it was Halifax who handled them better. The young Coll’s hosted Chester-Le-Street knowing anything less than 100% effort and attitude wouldn’t be enough. To play at this level you need the team to be exactly that A TEAM and the lads today went above and beyond and got a fully deserved 4-3 win in what I’d say is the best team performance since joining the JPL a couple of years ago! 1 to 15 could have been mom but the stand out performers picked by us coaches was Joe who has by his standards had abit of a dry patch in front of goal but the work rate has always been there, and today his performance was rewarded with 2 great goals. The other mom picked by Jase was Jensen, he played against one of the best young players I’ve seen at this age and he more than matched him, winning some vital headers and rarely putting a foot wrong. Couldn’t be prouder of the lads. The young colls hosted Halifax and got off to the worse start conceding a penalty after barely 2 minutes. The second quarter there was nothing between the sides so in to the 3rd quarter and Halifax got there second, probably deservedly so as Ponte were well below par, in the 4th quarter Ponte came alive and Seb was there to sweep home. Hayden was beginning to run the game now and against the run of play Halifax broke to make it 1-3. But soon after Ponte we’re back in it, Hayden’s work again to square it for Bellamy to smash home. Jensen and Alfie H were having great games at the back so with 5 to go Ponte threw caution to the wind and put Alfie H up front, unfortunately it backfired and we conceded 2 late goals for Halifax to claim a deserved 5-2 win. We regroup and go again against another tough side in Silksworth up in the North East, this is why we are in this league to play against opponents of this quality! Our girls played 16U in the surfcity PGF showcase in Las Vegas this weekend, they did some amazing things, great moments, great plays, great hits, also some not so great moments and not so great plays. What really popped out was when we saw a player follow an error with a great play or when they followed a strikeout with a hit. Saw a player make an error and get pulled off the field, yet she was in the dugout 30 seconds later cheering louder than everyone else for her teammates that remained on the field. You win or you learn. And you realize what you’re made of when facing defeat, and what it takes to hold your head high. This game still stings! It didn’t go as prepared for, as planned, as envisioned. Trying to comprehend when things go wrong, or understand adversity, is just part of the life lessons you learn through sports. The best and worst part? It doesn’t last forever: one game doesn’t define you, but that one game could be your last. And that’s what was really sad for me, to see the seniors lose grasp of playing for the state championship, that football had come to an end for a lot of them. I’m grateful for their brotherhood and support towards Creyton, and wish we could have a re-do more than anything! But this team gave the 5A tourney a run for their money, proving to themselves and others that Lehi can compete with the rest! I’m excited for next season, I know these boys are anxious to put in the time and effort to be bigger/faster/stronger by August. You can’t control everything, including others’ ignorant comments, but I will continue to teach my kids to always give their best effort and keep a determined attitude, not to stoop to the level of negative naysayers or nonbelievers of TEAM. I couldn’t be more proud of how Creyton carries himself and fights to the end, his athleticism, and being a great teammate even in the midst of disappointment. The QB gets the blame or fame, that’s just part of the position. But don’t think for one second he doesn’t work his tail off for every opportunity to get back on the field and take command. Lehi Football you are amazing!! Congrats on a season that was built with trust and love for each teammate, and finished at the semi’s on the turf under the big lights at Rice Eccles stadium! Final post: this kid right here. I couldn’t be prouder. I don’t know of a single player, let alone goalie, who would have taken the hits to the ribs the way she did and still played. Two games (games 2 and 3) on two separate days, she was hit in the ribs. She was in pain. She iced them between games and still played. She reinjured herself during game 4 and refused to go down no matter how much I yelled the sidelines. She finally went down after taking a free kick from 3/4 up the field and booking it back to the net before Brampton could shoot on her again. She was in pain. She needed to ice those ribs again. She took it as easy as an almost 11 year old would take it. But this kid right here made my heart swell with pride all weekend. She won with class. She lost with class. Welp. We got knocked out of the APA 9-Ball World Pool Qualifiers today after an incredible first match! Our first set was at 10a. By the 3rd match (out of 5), we were down 20-40 match points. I think it went 4-16, 4-16, 12-8. I get thrown play against the team's captain and win 15-5. We go into Sudden Death and our team captain wins 17-3! Was such an incredible feeling coming back from a huge deficit! . . The 2nd set at 2pm started out rough, but we practically were toe to toe. The 5th match was said to not be sudden death according to the other team. In the middle of the match, we were told it was supposed to be sudden death so the match gets calculated accordingly. Crappy, but oh well 🤷🏻♀️ Our 6 and their 5 only needed 12 pts more each. The other dude breaks so dang good, pocketing the 9 + 2 balls for 8 pts total. Dude breaks dry and doesn't leave a shot for our guy. A safety is played, but sold out.. . All in all, we all played well throughout this week. We will be back at it for APA 🎱 World Pool Qualifiers starting Monday... we are going to shoot our best and the goal is to win our way to Worlds! I effing LOVE this team!!!
