We had a tour that shared its unique story. Famous for being the first shearing shed in Australia to have mechanical shearing in the 1880's. The river played a significant part in shipping the bales of wool downstream on barges. The barges would bring up food supplies & mail to properties along the river. Bourke is underrated. We genuinely like the place. People are friendly, it’s a bit of a hub and they have a good bakery. This time we stayed in town at the Riverside motel. Quirky. We always drop in and get some Splashe Cola direct from the warehouse. The river was looking good, they’ve had some rain so it’s flowing and things are looking greener. The Chinese restaurant is the most popular place in town, and rightly so. The road between Bourke and Louth is dirt so it takes a while. We have wanted to do a farm stay in the outback for a while now, and we were happy we chose Trilby Station for a night (checkout outback beds) It’s a working sheep station, a massive property and amazing people. We stayed in the cottage, Liz was awesome and cooked us all our meals and delivered them to our door. You can also camp by the river too, that’ll be our next trip. Our only regret is not staying longer. We had a great time doing the self-drive mud map of the property. We also stopped into Dunlop Station next door and did a tour of the property with Kim, some great interesting shearing history at Dunlop.
