"And He said, “To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest it is given in parables, that ‘Seeing they may not see, And hearing they may not understand.’" Luke 8:10 NKJV This passage is interesting to me. A casual reading of the text could lead you to believe Jesus was deliberately witholding from the people. This could not be further from the truth and does not represent the heart of God at all. God is not hiding from you! He has mysteries to reveal to you as you set your heart and mind to pursue Him. One of our early church fathers, John Chrysostom, made the following comment about this passage: "If the blindness were natural, it would have been proper for God to open their eyes; but because it was a voluntary and self-chosen blindness, He does not overthrow their free will." We get to make the choice to see and hear the mysteries of the kingdom. It's needed now more than ever. CROSSING OVER TO THE OTHER SIDE In Luke 8, we see the story of faith in the midst of a storm and the results that stepping out can produce. Crossing over to the other side can be a scary thing sometimes, but what if there is someone on the other side of your fear that needs you? The demonic was waiting for deliverance from torment on the other side of the lake. He didn’t know it, but he was waiting for Jesus to battle the storm to get to him. Jesus told his disciples - let’s go! Let’s cross over to the other side of the lake. Jesus, with no fear, took a nap and his disciples worried constantly about the storm raging. I don’t want to minimize the reality. It was “real danger”. The boat was filling up with water. It wasn’t just in their imaginations. The disciples shouted at Jesus - we are going to drown. Help us! Jesus simply woke up, rebuked the wind and the waves and all was calm again. Fear was trying to control the disciples - to have them make hasty decisions, instead of trusting in Jesus. Today, I ask myself the same question that Jesus asked his disciples that day- “where is your faith?!” I know this, there is someone for me to minister to on the other side of my fear. If I cross over to the other side, what might happen? What about you? Will you get in the boat? Remember Jesus is in the boat in complete rest. He will not leave you alone. Along the Via Dolorosa, station 6 marks the place where a woman named Veronica wiped Jesus' brow as He was carrying the Cross. ✝️ Tradition says that the action resulted in a piece of fabric with an image of Jesus' face called the Sudarium Veronica. The Vatican gained a cloth fitting that description by the 14th century. It was believed to produce miracles, and since the 17th century, it has been shown to the public each Passion Sunday. It is framed, and there is no clear photograph of the relic. The story developed during Medieval times, and it has no direct connection to Scripture. In the noncanonical Acts of Pilate, the woman with the issue of blood (Luke 8:43-48) is given the name Veronica. Over time, that woman's story became connected to the woman of Station 6, possibly because of the healing power of cloth. In Luke, the woman touches Jesus' cloak and is healed. In church records, the Veil of Veronica healed those who touched it. In Luke 8, Jesus was on His way to Jairus’ house to heal his dying daughter. On the way there, the crowds were pressing against Jesus to the point that it almost crushed Him. However, Jesus only stopped when the woman who had been subject to bleeding had touched Him for healing. How was Jesus able to differentiate the woman’s touch from the pressing of the crowd? He was able to notice as power had left Him. . The woman was desperate for God; she recognised the need for the power of God in her life, and therefore, humbly came to the edge of His garment and received the healing power. However, the crowd - they were around Jesus, but they were too caught up in the movement of Jesus’ ministry in their town for them to notice the need for Jesus themselves. Jesus didn’t stop to notice them. . Are you intentionally coming to Jesus to receive power through the Holy Spirit? Or are you simply brushing by/past Him? Jesus explains in Matthew 7:21-23, that He never knew the false disciples who appeared to do and be around His work, but didn’t necessarily do the will of God. In those days, women were not allowed to minister to Rabbis but these women did despite what the old religious group of people thought. They were in the background supporting His ministry with resources (money, food, shelter etc) so he and His disciples could go out and minister to others. This were also some of the women who watched from afar when He was taken and crucified. As we know all His disciples had left Him when He was captured. This women really loved Him because of all the things He had done for them. The names given (and they were more but not mentioned) Mary Magdalene: whose Jesus had cast out 7 demons, Joanna, Susanna who’s Jesus had healed, not including the many more. Jesus loves women and men the same, He doesn’t discriminate, women and men can have a specific calling in their lives as the Lord sees fit for such a time as this. #dailybiblescripturesninspirations

Week 11 Day 2 Luke 8 Just a side note before I share today’s thought, I am so loving reading through the NT, one chapter a day. It has given me time to sit and read, meditate, study, and take notes. I’m learning so much. A few of Jesus’ disciples were fisherman. They were familiar with the Sea of Galilee, which is more like a lake surrounded by mountains. Winds would come down suddenly and cause quite a storm. I’ve been on the Sea of Galilee when it is calm and I’ve seen the strong winds come in. I can’t imagine how bad it must have been out there if the disciples feared for their lives. And where was Jesus? Sleeping. Peacefully. The disciples wake Him and basically say, “WE’RE ALL GOING TO DIE!” I picture Jesus calming getting up, rebuking the wind, then turning to His disciples with a sigh, “Where is your faith?” And again, they stand in wonder that even the winds and the water obey Him. In my life when storms arise, I run around with my hands in the air screaming, “WE’RE ALL GOING TO DIE!” Ok, maybe not that extreme, but my mind races with all kinds of scenarios and then I run to Jesus. And He says to me, “Where is your faith?” So often I try to sort out problems on my own or make them way bigger in my head than they are and I forget the One in control. No experience in your life is wasted. No trial. No tribulation. God always has something to teach you. Sometimes, you may not be able to fully understand until years later why God brought you through something specific. But it will all make sense someday, and you will be grateful. . Sometimes God will teach you things through such trials for your personal growth. Other times it’s not about you at all. Sometimes God will lead you through experiences or show you things so that you can impact someone’s life with your story. Luke 8:39 says, ‘Return home and tell how much God has done for you’. . Often at times, we are discouraged by the hard times we face. We distance ourselves from Christ. But, in moments like these, we must turn to God and find our strength. Our God is writing our story. Each has its individualised purpose. Y’all.. hold the phone! My ‘Holy Unrest’ devotional this morning really helped me.. like 💡 light bulb moment! . In the boat, going to the other side of the lake with his disciples, he falls asleep. The storm comes and water begins to fill the boat. The disciples go to waken him and tell him that they’re going to perish! . Now.. let’s stop right here! In my mind, in today’s life.. what would we have done? Would we have tried to take matters into our own hands? Would we be coming up with a plan or solution? . But those disciples knew exactly what to do! They awoke the master.. they called on him for help! He asked them, “where is your faith?!” . So today, I’m asking you.. when you’re in trouble, when life throws a storm your way, are you awakening the master? Where is your faith?! . Ahhh! Such a slap of reality, but such peace to know, he doesn’t point and tell us where to go.. he walks with us! You’ll get through your storm safely, too! 🙏🏼 . 22 Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth. 23 But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy. 24 And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm. 25 And he said unto them, Where is your faith? The last verse in this account is AMAZING! 🤎 Do you remember this story? “So Jesus returned to the boat and left, crossing back to the other side of the lake. The man who had been freed from the demons begged to go with him. It’s based on Luke 8:4–8. It is a large piece 40 x 30 with sides of 1.5 inches painted black on a gallery wrapped canvas. This is my first painting posted in 2024 and I have not posted anything since October 24, 2023 and I haven’t painted since then. I have been taking a break, cooking for Thanksgiving and Christmas and recently studying and taking some urban sketching classes and working in my sketchbook.
