On Friday morning, I set off for Loch Quoich and the plan for the day was Gairich. A Solitory Munro with a god-awful, boggy start. I was looking for a quick out and back to do while in the area, before the Macavalanche race the following day. A bit of a warm up, if you will. I reached the summit In around 2 hours with a realy comfortable gradient up a stalkers path, before that ended and it was back to bogs. The final push is a fair old steep yomp. Through super tight 3ft ruts and acute hairpins. There are a couple of light scrambles too. Certainly enough to end life up top of you're not careful. The riding off the top was minimal, then boggy for a sections before a speedy blast on same rather bland stalkers trails. All in all, Views - 8/10, Riding -3/10. Oh and then I headed @nevisrange to set up for the race the next day, with a few snaps.

βοΈ Full RAW run in BIOβοΈ A whole host of things to unpack from this last week. I have some really big news which I will go into over the next week or so. I was also away getting my teeth into another Munro on Friday. You could say that was a bit of a warm up for the Macavalanche on Saturday. Which I guess is where we will start tonight. The Macavalanche 2022 was a mixed bag. Stages one and two came as a major disappointment. The first was a 4 minute run with a 45 second climb after 4 corners. The Gondola was not used. The second Stage started with good intentions but after the first 45 seconds was really poor too. This stage did not utilise the Gondola either. Finally by Stage 3 we got in the Gondola and made our way to the top station. A trip up the quad chair and a 100m climb seen us reach the start line. Things looked bleak but I was grateful to be up high. After two poor seeding stages I was well off pace and positioned myself around 3/4 at the back of the pack. The horn went and it was a tediously slow start. The first two rows of riders got all the hard packed snow and everyone else was left with the aftermath. After a bottleneck I was able to start making up some positions and finally when the chance came to get off the snow I took it. Now on the open hillside I was in my element and able to let off the brakes before reaching the top of Blue Doon. Once on track, passing opportunities were harder to come by but still there if you timed it well. About to make my move on the next rider I was chasing down I felt everything jam up at my feet and my rear wheel lock. I had somehow managed to snap a jockey wheel and forced my chain behind the rear sprocket into the spokes. It took me 2 minutes to get the chain out and off the bike before I continued with the race, having lost maybe 20-30 places. All that was left for me to do was use the bike as scooter on the flats, pump every little thing I could, speed tuck on the big descents and literally RUN past other riders on climbs. It was a real sickener as I was feeling on pace for the final run. Still managed to pass a few guys chainless too.

Really hoping to see loads more female entries next time! Ascent to the snow was brutal ... And there were waaaaaay too many pedally bits for my unfit ass.
