How BIG do you DREAM for your photography business? Thereβs no such thing as an unachievable goal for in photography, you have the potential to achieve more than youβve ever dreamed, just some goals take a little longer to reach than others. The key to success is knowing precisely what success means to you, its different for everyone. You need to clearly write down your goals in as much detail as possible, not just the financial aspects. For myself success is not just measured in money, its measured in social reach, achievements and travel. I know how big I want my social network to be 12 months from now, the countries I want to travel to and deliver seminars and workshop, and even the titles for the next two books I'm writing. As I have clearly defined goals then I can work out how I'm going to achieve them and what Iβll need to help me on my journey (tools, apps, out-sourcing, budget etc). Now it's just a case of breaking these big 12 month goals down to easy manageable 90 day targets and doing something each week to take me in the right direction to achieve them. Panasonic brought a triple threat of powerhouse performers to the market, in the form of its full-frame trio: the Panasonic S1, Panasonic S1R and Panasonic S1H. However, with Sony, Canon and Nikon already having staked the full-frame mirrorless market pretty extensively, Panasonic has a bit of an uphill battle β particularly since lenses for the L-mount certainly aren't the cheapest. Still, the company has stated that it remains committed to the smaller Micro Four Thirds format where it has a much stronger foothold. Last year Olympus celebrated its 100th birthday by releasing its "flagship reimagined" update, the Olympus OM-D E-M1X, boasting some of the most innovative and advanced technology we've ever seen in a camera. This is Sigma's first full-frame digital camera at only 370 grams! So far the worlds smallest and lightest camera - or s they claim! This 24.6 megapixel mirrorless camera has its own family of lenses and accessories too β thanks to its partnership with Panasonic and Leica! There are also a good amount of lenses already available for the fp and there is a promise of over 40 primes and zooms by the end of 2020! Would you buy the extras? And thanks to Sigma's own MC-21 and MC-31 adaptors, the fp can already be used with many more Canon EF, Sigma SA, and Arri PL-mount lenses. Sigma hasn't announced when the Sigma fp will be released or how much it will cost, but the company's other mirrorless cameras range from Β£600 to Β£1,000 so we assume it will be in this range! Itβs hard to find a good balance between having all the photography kit and actually being able to make some use of it. We've all seen it, from one extreme to another. Whether it's someone taking photos of the New York skyline using an iPad because they didnβt want to carry a camera or someone who carries round a huge DSLR, five lenses, a tripod and a laptop all in a huge carry box. So, this kit post is more about discussion than tell you all what you need to take with you or don't need to take! Personally, I think if you're just out and about with family or friends, or a walk with the dog then just your camera or even a high quality smart phone would do but I wouldn't drag around all of the bells and whistles unless it was a client job, that's just because... well there's a lot of it! Meeting up with a few of my Awesome Photographers Group. I had a fantastic evening meeting with this great bunch of success minded photographers from London and surrounding areas who are part of my 6 Steps to Success Program. It's fantastic to finally meet in person, well worth the 6 hour drive down from Northumberland. I'm so lucky to have so many amazing photographers on my program from over 20 countries around the world. ARE YOU OVER EDITING? Part 2 In my opinion, most photographers over edit far too much. It's just NOT necessary. Too often we edit for ourselves and not our clients, our clients probably would have been over the moon with the images as they were with just half the amount of editing. They probably wouldn't notice the difference. Remember your time is your money and you need to set time a side to getting the next clients lined up ready and booked in the diary. No more quiet periods just a constant stream of money and it's not that hard to do it if you plan in advance. The key to managing your editing time is to do this in an afternoon, do your IGTβs Income Generating Tasks on a morning. These IGTβs are the jobs that will lead to more enquiries and bookings, such as posting to social media, email marketing, blogs, LinkedIn Connections and seeking our joint venture partnerships. When you edit in an afternoon your time window is smaller youβll find you naturally speed up your editing to finish by the end of the working day. Youβll take less time per image but still produce fantastic and consistent results, but more importantly you arenβt letting your business slip. Marketing needs to be consistent too, social media posting should be a daily habit for any business! It's hugely important to remember to review your LinkedIn profile on a regular basis. You should be removing older content and refreshing it with newer content at least once a year if not more regularly, after all, things change all of the time! Don't forget to back up your LinkedIn profile regularly too though! There are multiple ways to back up your profile but saving your profile as a PDF is one of the easiest ways. You can also archive your LinkedIn profile data, this will make things easier for the future! LinkedIn occasionally removes features and this also quite often removes content from specific sections that you may have spent hours filling in.
