And now for something totally different however very collectible , over the last 25 years of buying and selling as a dealer I’ve come across very few items that I have kept. Please scroll right for 10 pictures of pieces that are here and I enjoy every day that I have never put up for sale. I have 2 larger type scramble bells both AM marked and both with original clappers and boy do they make a racket one 1938 prewar raf and one 1940 Battle of Britain and the hardest date to find. I’ve also got 3 RAF mess room clocks, two with Elliot movements and other with a smiths and a rare pre ear 1939 sector clock with outward pointing sectors. Elliot movement raf stamped and dated with original untouched screen printed face and the rarest 1943 RAF dated and stamped Elliot movement with an original inward pointing sector used by the RAF FIGHTER COMMAND and a superb c~type helmet with mark xviii goggles and mask with wired headset and oxygen pipe from bomber command and 2 dated B-type fighter helmets one dated 1939 with Battle of Britain cloth masks and the rarest mark Xvii goggles both with working sun visors and the last rear single pivot wheel from a spitfire. New watch day. I’ve been a distant admirer of IWC for many years. That admiration led me to the purchase of the Ingenieur 3227 which I subsequently sold as it was just too heavy. The pilots watches have been on my radar ever since I sold the 3227. Particularly the Mark XVII. There’s something about the date window on the other models that doesn’t sit right with me and I know the Mark XX is an incredible example of what IWC can do but the XVII has a charm that the other models don’t have. I love the splash of red with the triangle. I finally pulled the trigger and I’m happy I did. I’ve spent so much time with the Tudor Ranger and comparing this to that is night and day. I think the Mark XVII is my new favourite “go anywhere and do anything” watch.
