Is this an unnecessary amount of photos for a bind that doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles? Probably. But my first bind is done, and it deserved a photoshoot. Measure of a Man by Inadaze22 was the first fic that I really wished I had a paper copy to annotate. It brought me back to engaging with Fandom instead of just lurking and I knew when I decided I'd try binding, MoaM would be the first story I worked on. I made a lot of mistakes. Number 3 on books recommended by friends for 2024. I’m on a roll for that challenge. Also checking off nonfiction for the @thewell.read.collective Challenge. I appreciated this book for a number of reasons. The first was Greenfield’s story of his survival of the Holocaust. What he went through was truly horrific and should not be forgotten. Secondly, my husband is in the tailoring business. It was neat to see how Greenfield rose in the ranks of the business. I was tuned into some of the lingo, and that was neat also. Greenfield also was full of endless thanks for what America did for him following his journey from his homeland. I was very sad to learn of Martin’s passing last week. Highly recommend! Martin Greenfield, Holocaust survivor and legendary tailor, died March 20 at 95. I had the honor and privilege of interviewing this remarkable man for a report about his journey from Holocaust survivor to world-renowned master tailor. He learned how to sew as a teenage prisoner at Auschwitz where he served as a tailor for the Nazi officers. His parents and three siblings perished in the Holocaust. In 1947 Greenfield immigrated to the U.S. with no family, no knowledge of English and a mere $10 in his wallet. He eventually built a successful business making custom suits for 6 U.S. Presidents, world leaders and celebrities. Greenfield spent his life fulfilling his father Joseph’s parting wish. Before they were separated at Auschwitz, Joseph said to Martin, “If I don’t survive, you have to promise me, don’t cry for us. You live for us.” And that’s what he did. Greenfield is survived by his wife, two sons and four grandchildren. Warm. Witty. Wise. Greenfield was a beautiful, courageous man.
