Now for something different: book binding using coptic stitch. I could fold paper for hours, it’s so soothing for me. So really book binding is an excuse to fold paper. When the migraines keep me from drawing, I do hand projects like this. I can do it in dim enough light, the steps are repetitive and I know them well at this point. Still needs refining and a cover. Last fall, I randomly saw a TT video from a girl who was looking to put together a book of fan letters for Sleep Token to share with them the impact they have had on fans' lives. I immediately reached out to her to offer to bind the book, and since then I don't think a day has gone by where @ghannabmaye and I haven't spoken. We were incredibly fortune to be able to see Sleep Token from barricade this weekend at Sick New World in Las Vegas, and to finally pass on the completed fan project to Thom from @tjptours. Our simple fan project grew from what we thought would be a handful of letters, to four full books with over 100 letters, completely individualized for each member of the band. Letters were sent in from all over the world, including poetry, song lyrics, and a very special piece of fan art from one of the youngest Sleep Token fans. I can finally share this! @authormegancousins asked me to rebind a copy of Perfect Game for her (oh you haven’t read it? You should! It’s great!). I had so much fun with this. (Possibly because it takes place where I live). The end papers are custom made, a photo of T-Mobile park that I edited to make it the Olympians stadium, then added foil to make it sparkle. The edges are designed to look like Max’s tattoos. I love posting up 'behind the scenes' (ie. the back of the covering leather!) shots of embroidery work - it tells such a chaotic story of how the front cover design comes to life! One of these days I might stick the leather onto the book with the reverse side up INTENTIONALLY...what do you reckon? It has: suede; annotations; random knots; straight coloured lines in all sorts of angles; and even the odd loose thread where I forgot to pull the thread taught enough on that particular stitch (I've secured these so they won't pull through!). As I work my way around the grid on the front using the different colours of thread, I try to work as logically as possible so as not to waste too much on the back, but the coverage I am trying to achieve on this book cover makes that quite tricky.
