Comco Ikarus is a microlight aircraft manufacturer based in Hohentengen, in Germany. The company was founded in 1970 and initially produced a series of hang gliders, before switching focus onto manufacturing microlights. The company produces the Comco Ikarus C42 microlight which is a two seat, side-by-side microlight that's frequently used for training and cross country touring. Over 1,200 Comco Ikarus C42s have been built and the aircraft is powered by an 80hp Rotax 912 engine. Some Comco Ikarus C42s are used for glider towing and banner towing. The company has continually improved on the original design and the Comco Ikarus C42B features a number of updates in order for it to be certified as a Light Sport Aircraft for the American FAA. Canberra Airport Runway Tour is very interesting. One gets to go around the airport in a bus onto the runways, whilst all take-off, landing, and taxing operations are going on as normal. All sorts of aircraft from regular flights, to microlight planes to large military transport aircrafts operated within a span of just half an hour. There was even what looked like a seaplane parked at the airport. The gentleman conducting the tour provided amazing number of facts about the airport and its operations.
