Spooder-Man AKA “The Woool-Croowler” A Custom Minifigure by @firestartoys If you love this figure, you can find it on firestartoys.com for 10% off! This year, Firestar Toys pulled out all the stops for April Fools day by designing, printing, and listing four brand new custom figures for sale. They’re.. unique to say the least. On the Star Wars side, we had an intentionally disproportionate and weird-looking Thrawn figure alongside an actually well-designed depiction of Bo-Katan with this hilarious taped-together cardboard armor. On the MARVEL side, there were two MARVEL figures; both Spider-men. One was a poorly drawn version of the Symbiote suit while the other was a squiggly and disproportionate version of the classic Spider-Man design that might look.. a bit familiar. Of course, these figures were created as a joke and listed for sale on the website for a THOUSAND pounds on April 1st, but due to the interest shown in “The Woool Croowler” and “Box Katan”, they were later relished under more… reasonable prices. Of course, the Woool Croowler is based on the well known meme that we all affectionately refer to as “Spooder-Man.” Could you imagine that this poorly drawn MS Paint character would one day be CANON to the Spider-Verse? He even has a cameo in Across the Spider-Verse! This figure is absolutely hilarious and knowing this Firestar Artist’s affinity for Spider-Man designs, its great to have this figure on display alongside much of his other work such as Miles, Gwen, Miguel, and many Peters. Like other Firestar Spider-Men, you can order this figure with an awesome specially printed 3x4 display tile which looks great alongside the others. Overall, this is just such a fun little collectible. Gozer the Gozerian AKA “Destructive Deity” A Custom Minifigure by @firestartoys I remember how surprised I was with how much I enjoyed Ghostbusters: Afterlife. What initially came across to me as yet another bit of empty nostalgia bate turned out to be.. a surprisingly endearing legacy film. It borrowed things from the original film in a way that could have felt tacky and uninspired, but threw a fresh coat of paint on some of the fun and wacky things about the franchise while tactfully treating those things like they’re not silly. It’s Ghostbusters! One of those things was certainly Gozer, the sort of Villain behind the scenes for both the original 1984 film and Ghostbusters: Afterlife. The character was treated almost entirely the same between the two films nearly 40 years apart. The look of the character remains easily recognizable in the new film, but with some cosmetic changes that make her a bit more menacing and a little less… well, like they covered her in plastic bubbles and silly string. This figure is pretty definitely based on Gozer’s appearance in Afterlife in which she is portrayed by Olivia Wylde. We see all of that rigid and organic-looking texture across her torso and legs that took the place of the cloudy bubbly look from the original film, plus we see designs on the facial prints such as the makeup designs on the forehead similar to those on Wylde’s version. However, the figure borrows one of the more iconic facial expressions seen on the original character with the wide open mouth, and this ties it all together as a solid depiction of the character overall that is comprised entirely of official LEGO parts with the exception of a custom hair piece. Cyborg / Victor Stone (Justice League) It’s taken me a while to get around to reviewing this figure because I sort of.. lost the exclusive arm piece included with this figure for a while. However, now that I’ve finally found it, I’m excited to talk about this figure a bit and why I consider it to be one of the more underrated figures from the Justice League film. Starting at the top, we have the same molded “helmet” piece that’s been on most Cyborg figures. It originated back in 2015 with the first Cyborg variant which was based on a comic design, but for Justice League, the piece was reprinted for eyes that were more accurate to the film. The piece itself is alright here. It wraps around the face pretty tightly and a new piece overall may have been preferable, but this could have looked a lot worse. The exposed printed hair on one side has always been a nice touch, and the shape overall is generally pretty accurate. Under this piece, we have a double-sided head that was created specially for this variant. Along with the “helmet” piece, it would later be recycled onto another Cyborg variant and later, a young Nick Fury. There’s nothing particularly remarkable about these faces, but there’s nothing that I DON’T like about them either. One side wears a stern expression while the other appears to be a bit more friendly, and I think that these two choices of expression work pretty well. Had this figure debuted a few years later, it probably would have made use of a lighter skin tone for Victor’s face though. My wife was deeply disturbed by it and all of my friends that went with me to see it still think that I am insane for having enjoyed it. I’m… not sure what they were really expecting, but I never once thought I was going in to see a Comicbook movie. Rather, a film inspired by a Comicbook character. JOKER is the movie that taught me not to go to the movies equipped with my expectations of what I WANT a film to be, but to appreciate it for what it is. Sure, the movie is a surprisingly weak social commentary, but I enjoy it for the character study it is. Joaquin Phoenix disappeared into this role, and he is so gut-wrenchingly engaging to watch from start to finish that… while I do deeply enjoy this movie… I haven’t rewatched it since I first saw it in theaters. Moving past my quick thoughts on the movie itself, we have today’s figure which I’ve happily owned for a while as a commemoration of it. A few years ago, Firestar actually released this very figure, but with the long TLJ Luke Skywalker hair dyed bright green. This piece works pretty well, and a few other brands have even used it for this version of the character, but the brand new molded piece that Firestar developed for the rerelease of the figure works even better! Darth Vader (Kenobi) Featuring the “Fallen Master Expansion Pack II” Custom Parts by @legendcmoc and @bagglesstudio Kenobi is such a mixed bag… and it would have made a much better movie than it did a show. I was so disappointed with the majority of the series that I felt blindsided by how satisfied I was with the final battle and exchange between Obi-Wan and Vader. I thought the entire sequence was phenomenal and the dialogue was doing all it could to jerk some man tears out of this lifetime Star Wars fan. Then, the focus went back to this lackluster Inquisitor that the series really wanted me to care about and the whole time I’m just thinking, “Man… I really hope that someone makes a custom helmet mold for Vader in that scene…” Today, we will be reviewing that phenomenal custom helmet created in collaboration between two excellent artists in the Custom Minifig business. Baggles Studio and Legend C MOC are a pair of talented creators who have collaborated on some astounding (and highly sought after) custom minifigure projects over the past year or so. While I missed out on their Ahsoka figure, I do own the Rebels Vader minifig that they dubbed “Fallen Master” for copyright reasons. Versions of that release included an expansion pack, so today we will be looking at the expansion pack II which is sold entirely separately from the figure. What’s great about that fact is that you can buy this pack even without buying the Fallen Master figure and still upgrade the heck out of your official VADER figure. What’s more is that the pack includes TWO full helmets so that you can upgrade MULTIPLE Vader minifigures. Batman (Dark Knight Trilogy Variants) Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight films are regarded as comprising one of the greatest Trilogies of all time, so it’s surprising to see how few sets and figures we’ve actually seen based on these films. However, the quality of (most of) the sets we’ve seen from the movies is undeniable. There have been 6 Dark Knight Trilogy Batman figures in total. However, this review will only focus on four of them since one is from 2007 and suffers from a few of the same pitfalls as one that would come only a few years later, and the other is a San Diego Comic Con Exclusive worth over $1,500. The four variants we’ll focus on are as follows, The Batman Begins figures from both 2014 and 2021, and the Dark Knight variants from 2013 and 2021. Of course, the Batman Begins variants are both based on the suit worn by the Caped Crusader Throughout Batman Begins and the first scene of The Dark Knight. This suit Features a rigid cowl with a wide neck and less segmented armor than the suit design that would follow. The Dark Knight Variants are based on the suit Batman wears in the second and third films of the Trilogy. It features a more fitted cowl with a slimmer neck and interconnected armor allowing for greater flexibility. We see the transition between these suits as Bruce explains to Lucius Fox that he needs the suit to be redesigned so as to carry less weight and be able to turn his head. CONTINUED IN COMMENTS . . Paul Muad’Dib Atreides Featuring a Custom Head, Hair Piece, Scarf, and Arms from @firestartoys This post is loaded with custom parts that can only be found on firestartoys.com and you can use FSMERC10 any time for 10% off of your entire order. I still have to pinch myself every once in a while when I remember that LEGO actually made a pretty great set based on Part I, but when it comes to Part II, its Firestar Toys that is cooking up all of the best custom figures, parts, and accessories. For Paul as you see in these slides, I added some of their custom UV printed arms (and I have plenty more for when I acquire more stillsuits) and of course, the double-sided custom head piece that I think features a far greater likeness than that on the official LEGO figure. Of course, the eyes are also blue since Paul has spent a fair amount of time on Arrakis by this point. One side of the head wears a stoic expression with a stillsuit hydration tube going to his nose, and the other side not only appears to shout, “SILENCE!” But also has a bit of debris scattered around since this is after the attack on the Emperor’s palace. Firestar’s released several of these custom double-sided heads for different characters such as Stilgar, Jamis, Duncan Idaho (with a beard), Reverend Mother Lady Jessica, and even more. What’s been WILD is how many spectacular custom 3D printed parts they’ve put out to further accessorize figures, and that’s thanks largely to the artistic talent of @inputbrick who has partnered with Firestar to create some extraordinary custom parts. The artists at Firestar really outdid themselves with this one. The latest in their lineup of custom figures from Across the Spider-Verse is none other than Gwen Stacy. This custom minifigure is comprised of official LEGO parts with the exception of several custom parts; the hair, the hood, and the drawn-back hood. The base figure includes all of this, but the additional masked facial expressions can be purchased separately or at a discount as a bundled 4-pack. Starting at the bottom, we have the Chucks that Gwen wears throughout the film. These are printed on both the front and sides of the legs, and they connect between surfaces very well! Otherwise, there’s no printed details on these legs which is completely fine with me. The torso features the solid black of Gwen’s costume printed onto the white torso which shows plainly along the sides. So far, we have just the right amount of detail that one might find on an official LEGO CMF figure, and I know that’s a HUGE plus for a lot of collectors out there. It’s from here that things begin to get a bit wild such as on the arms which have been printed with a vivid pink around the sleeve areas. These connect seamlessly with the hands which have also been colored pink, but with white fingertips which is something that Firestar rarely ever does. Batman (Ben Affleck Variants) There’s a lot about Zack Snyder’s DC films that I don’t particularly like. Ben Affleck is not one of those things. While I wish that the writing around this version of the character was a bit better, Affleck’s portrayal of the Caped Crusader boasted some astonishing action scenes and an unmatched menacing presence. Affleck’s Batman received FIVE minifigure variants that I’ll briefly discuss throughout this post, and some feature more nuanced alterations for better or worse that I find particularly interesting. 2016 saw the Dawn of TWO variants; the armored version featured in one small set, and the standard variant featured in two sets. The armored version is mostly dark pearl grey plastic with the exception of the head, hands, and hip piece. While the use of this molded armor piece on the torso is nifty and adds some nice bulk, I’ve always been of the opinion that two new molds were absolutely necessary to capture this appearance properly. The more egregious area of note here though is the use of the standard Bat Cowl with its tall pointy ears when the helmet seen on this suit features ears that are shorter and flatter. One major redeeming quality of this figure is the use of the glow-in-the-dark head under the cowl though. The eyes glow brightly when the lights are out, and it’s really cool to see on one of the few live-action Batman figures that ACTUALLY has white eyes. Barriss Offee (2018) Before her appearances in the Clone Wars, Barriss only really existed in Star Wars as something of a background character void of any real characterization. Fast forward to her bombing of the temple in the animated series, and her absence in Revenge of the Sith takes up an entirely new meaning. I’m excited to finally see where her story leads in May 4th’s “Tales of the Empire” and it put me in the mood to revisit her newest minifigure variant; one of three. The first of these appeared in 2010 with a black hood and cape, standard minifig eyes with pupils, blank black legs, and a torso that resembled the details on the next two. 2012’s Clone Wars variant featured a dark blue hood with a short matching cape that was true to the length seen in the Clone Wars. Of course though, it also had those infamous Clone Wars eyes. This newest variant from 2018 aligns with more modern minifigure design elements such as fully colored blue eyes with white pupils. I also appreciate the continued use of the dark blue hood, but with a longer matching cape so that we know we’re looking at a design based specifically on her appearances in live action. What’s more is that the figure makes use of one of those long skirt/cloak pieces which I love, and I can’t say that I mind seeing it totally unprinted. I like the proportions present on each face, and the neutral/angry expressions work well based on how we now know the character. Altogether, this is a solid figure that pair nicely with other Jedi minifigs; ESPECIALLY her master, Luminara Unduli. Superman / Clark Kent (Black Suit / ZSJL) AKA “The Revived Son of Hope” A Custom Minfigure by @yafd_minifigure and @lightcustom_wz I have wanted a Black Suit Superman figure for a LOOONG time. I enjoyed Zack Snyder’s Justice League to the point that after I watched it, I actually started displaying my figures from the 2017 sets that came out with the release of Joss Whedon’s atrocious theatrical cut. However, what’s always been missing is a good Black Suited Man of Steel. This custom figure aims.. quite a bit higher in terms of art style and coverage of detail compared to the official LEGO figures. In any case, I found it hard to open this neat and protective plastic box without saying to myself, “This is freaking awesome.” This custom minifigure is a collaborative effort between YAFD Minifigs (a Brand that I have only recently discovered) and Light Custom (a brand that has been taking the custom LEGO community by storm quite recently with wave after wave of excellent figures). I’m not entirely sure where the efforts of one brand end and the input of another begins, but the final product is one that I’m quite impressed with. This custom minifig is comprised of official LEGO parts with the exception of a custom molded hair piece, wrist attachments, and a custom hard plastic cape. It is adorned with brilliantly crisp and high quality pad printed detail, and includes two alternate one-sided head pieces. Pam Beesly Pam is one character that I was very curious to see adapted into minifigure form for this set. Purist customs have looked very similar for many of the characters from this show over the years, but Pam is one that people tended to have a hard time with. This is probably mainly due to the character’s curly hair and how it would appear in different shades throughout different seasons. For this figure, the design team seems to have gone with brown and the figure uses the same hair mold as Age of Ultron Wanda Maximoff, Elsa Sneider, and Poison Ivy variants. I think that this is one of the better mold choices that they could have gone with. The head used on this figure is one that first appeared on a character called Yaz from a Jurassic World set and… it’s… pretty generic. It has already reappeared on figures such as Mary Cattermole and Dr. Helen Cho. There are no specific signifying features and the fearful expression on the other side of the head is one that I was a bit surprised to see on Pam. Maybe it could be a reaction to Roy coming to the Office to attack Jim? Either way, I found the majority of this figure a little underwhelming compared to some of the others included in this set. The best part has to be the torso featuring the pink cardigan that we see Pam wear throughout much of the series. It remains exclusive to this set and this figure. Scarlet Spider is one of those Spidey characters that not EVERYONE knows too much about but… EVERYONE knows just looks insanely cool. He doesn’t play a tremendous role in Across the Spider-Verse, but I’m glad that he’s just a tier above being relegated to a “background character” seemingly as one of Miguel’s Lieutenants while tracking Miles back to his own universe. Voiced by Andy Samberg, this Peter Parker Clone is most commonly seen in this art style with high contrast, vibrant colors, and large eye lenses. Today’s custom minifigure embodies that style very well and comes with a few neat surprises that I’m excited to unpack. This figure is comprised of official LEGO plastic with exception of a custom hood piece and two custom wrist-mounted web-shooters. It is UV printed with Firestar’s brilliant custom detail, and features additions such as the custom display stand that can be bundled with purchase, or the heads featuring additional expression that can be purchased separately on the Firestar Toys website. Before we get into the details, this figure looks great alongside the other Across the Spider-Verse figures produced by Firestar such as Miguel, Miles, and even Gwen. Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis) Has there ever been a bad live action Alfred? As the latest in the line of Alfreds, Andy Serkis delivered what I though was an excellent performance across the few scenes he was in. He cares deeply about Bruce and while he may not entirely agree with the path that Bruce has started down, he is there to help him no matter what. Funnily enough, this is also the fourth minifigure to be based on a character played by Serkis after Gollum, Ulysses Klaue, and Supreme Leader Snoke. This is amongst the simpler figures introduced as part of the THE BATMAN sets. The torso is the same as one we recently saw on J. The Batman (Robert Pattinson) AKA “I’m Vengeance” A Custom Minifigure by @yafd_minifigure The Batman is one of my all time favorite movies. Seriously, we’re talking top 5 here. Consequently, I’m all over minifigs that people make based on the characters from this wonderful film. Today’s custom figure comes from YAFD Minifigs, a brand that I am… surprised I had never heard of before first seeing this product. Based on The Batman himself from the 2022 film, this figure takes a different approach to the suit’s design than other customs I have seen and ESPECIALLY compared to the official LEGO figure which I remain disappointed with to this day. The figure comes snuggly tucked into hard protective foam under a really cool graphic card all neatly packaged in a hard plastic box. Within the box was the fully assembled figure alongside an extra headpiece already attached to some neat custom molded hair. From my understanding, this is the standard edition and extra parts were included with premium or preordered versions of the product. From the moment I looked at the figure before even opening the box… I was impressed, and I’m pleasantly surprised with the caliber of both printed and molded detail all around. Of course, the cowl is a custom piece that slides easily over the figure’s head. Here though, I find my only slight issue with this figure, and that is the cowl’s alignment with the eyes. I feel like every time I turn around, there’s another Star Wars figure that has rocketed up in value. I was lucky enough to find a Boushh Leia figure just before the figure came to be over $80, but even still, I’d say that there are parts of the figure that could use.. a bit of updating. The helmet is pretty much perfect though of course, but even that single piece goes for around $20-$30. For LEGo Star Wars fans who aim to save some money, want to add Boushh Leia to their collection, or perhaps might not be happy with the design of the figure from the neck down, you are in luck! This custom minifig is comprised of official LEGO parts with the exception of a 3D printed backpack mold, a custom cloth piece, and a 3D printed weapon accessory. It is UV printed with Firestar’s tremendously high quality detail and even wears the official LEGO helmet which is already spot on. I mean we’ll just.. pass over that. It is a surprisingly perfectly molded and printed piece despite being created over 12 years ago, and there was no need to change it for the sake of this figure. They had no business dressing Ahsoka the way they did throughout her early appearances in The Clone Wars. Ahsoka essentially wore a tube top as a young 14-year-old girl fighting in The Clone Wars, which would never be suitable for the kinds of battles she was expected to fight in. Many have thought this outfit to be inappropriate for someone of Ahsoka’s age, especially while she jumps between war-zones alongside two Jedi wearing armored tunics. It’s bad enough that Ahsoka had to fight in the Clone Wars at such a young age, but to put her in an outfit that’s both so uncomfortable and unsuitable for fighting is just problematic. 2022’s Tales of the Jedi started retconning Ahsoka’s original The Clone Wars costume by depicting a young Ahsoka in a completely different outfit. This one is much more to Ahsoka’s taste and more practical for fighting, and it also draws inspiration from the outfit she wore during the later seasons of The Clone Wars. While it maintains some of the same spirit of the original outfit in its color and other parts of the design, it now offers both more protection and comfort for Ahsoka as she trains to fight and survive in the war. Duchess Satine Kyze (With Bonus “Negotiator” Head Piece) AKA “The Peaceful Queen” A Custom Minifigure by @lightcustom_wz and @bokatanbricks AVAILABLE SOON Creating a romantic interest for Obi-Wan in the Clone Wars was a stroke of genius. It more deeply humanized an already deservedly beloved character and made for a downright TRAGIC hallmark in the story of one of the greatest Jedi who ever lived. Beyond that, she was a particularly interesting character herself and it’s all the more wild to find out that she’s Bo-Katan’s sister. Regardless, this is one character that I think we all know LEGO will never make. Thanks to Light Custom and Bo-Katan Bricks though, we finally have this character to display alongside Kenobi. This custom minifigure is comprised of official LEGO parts adorned with high quality pad printed detail. Its designed is based specifically on how she appeared around the time of her final appearances before her death at the hands of Maul, and this is reflected in more way than one. Starting at the top, we have the use of the LEGO Ninjago movie Lloyd Garmadon hair mold in that same blonde color in which it originally appeared. I think that this piece works fine as far as preexisting LEGO molds go. When Satine is taken prisoner and as she’s rescued by Kenobi, her hair is down in this sort of tousled look. This is the second Satine figure I have reviewed that makes use of this very same hair piece, so I think most would agree that it was a great choice. Mandalorian Super Commando AKA “The Red Loyalist” A Custom Minifigure by @lightcustom_wz and @bokatanbricks Available Soon The second of these wonderful collaboratively produced figures by Light Custom and Bo-Katan Bricks is a bit more than meets the eye. Essentially, it is a modernized redesign that one could easily compare to the official LEGO Mandalorian Super Commando figure. I never loved how they made use of dark and light grey with those, so I appreciate that this figure sticks to black and pearl dark grey for the colors of the plastic with this custom minifig. It is comprised entirely of official LEGO parts adorned with spectacular pad printed custom details but with the base figure, only a plain black head is included to go under the helmet. The custom Obi-Wan head is only included with the Satine Kryze figure from this same wave, but the official Obi-Wan heads are common enough. Maul’s loyalists adorned their armor in a variety of ways. Most of them shifted away from blue and grey towards red and black. This particular figure features the black hands print streaked across the top of his helmet just like the official figure did, but with a bit more detail surrounding the visor. Someone mentioned in a poll yesterday that it doesn’t make any sense for a human hand to be imprinted onto a LEGO figure when… they just have claws for hands. Sure, he’s got a heck of a point and while this works in some instances for a bit of comedy, it’d look a bit silly here. Altogether, I love the changes they made with the helmet, and I think that it just looks great overall. Stilgar is a character that I felt was sorely missing from the Dune Ornithopter set. Sure, the figures were included and costumed based upon their relationship with the vehicle in the first film with the exception of Baron Harkonnen, but Stilgar is just such a pronounced character throughout the Dune story. It’s great to have a company like Firestar Toys who so readily leaps at the whispers of unrest among LEGO fans between releases. It’s regularly brings us some incredible custom parts making for characters and display possibilities that LEGO never would have realized. Among these, Firestar’s Stilgar and Paul heads are excellent. When it comes to Stilgar, they NAILED the likeness on each side of the face and I was sure that this wouldn’t be an easy task. The proportions of an actor’s face are an aspect of the design that was absolutely crucial with this character, and the Artists at Firestar managed to capture his likeness spectacularly while still working to match the aspects of the design style seen on the official figures such as the blue eyes. Altogether, I’m incredibly happy with this new head piece and so many of the new parts Firestar has created such as blades, faces, and fantastic new arms. And of course… this is only the beginning. Superman / Clark Kent (Justice League / Resurrected) AKA “Superman Rebirth” A Custom Minifigure by @bat.bricks I feel like there isn’t much that I can say about Justice League 2017, The Snyder Cut, or any of the discourse surrounding them that hasn’t been said. I’ll just say that I almost left the theater while watching the theatrical version and I enjoyed the Snyder Cut quite a bit more, but learning more about what Snyder had originally planned for these characters going forward… I’m glad we’re starting over. That doesn’t diminish my enjoyment of the movie any less but seriously, some of the concepts that Snyder planned to lean into with his Justice League trilogy displayed a fundamental misunderstanding of and lack of respect for the source material he aimed to adapt. I’ll stop there. While I still think that the Superman vs. the Justice League scene just after his resurrection is pretty contrived and pointless.. it’s cool to watch. I can’t lie. Watching a deeply disoriented Kal-El throwing hands with the likes of Aquaman, Cyborg, and Wonder Woman was cool, and seeing his eyes catch up with the Flash who was trying to get the drop on him was wild. For this simple reasons alone, I’m pretty stoked to have this custom minifig on display among my other Justice League figures. It may seem like a fairly simple custom, but there’s a few things here that I am actually QUITE impressed with. Kanan Jarrus (S3-S4) It has taken me an unfortunately long time to finally find this figure, but I am so so excited to finally see it as part of my growing Star Wars Rebels collection! There are three LEGO Kanan Jarrus variants; the season 1-2 figure, the season 3-4 figure, and the early 1-2 minifig with black hair rather than dark brown which goes for between $350 and $500. We reviewed the dark brown-haired S1-S2 fig not too long ago, but I’ve only obtained the S3-S4 minifig just this week, so I am excited to take a close look at what makes this figure special and how it compares to the first variant in terms of continuity. Firstly, this figure wears an exclusive molded hair piece which is very similar to the hair mold created for the S1 figure, but with Kanan’s eye covering molded into the very front. This surface is printed with dark green, lined with a sort of olive green color, and features Jaig eyes on the front just on top of where his eyes would be. Of course, this is because Kanan was blinded by Darth Maul in the Season 2 finale of Star Wars Rebels, and Kanan wears this mask throughout the majority of the following two seasons. This is an EXCELLENT piece and it suits this figure absolutely perfectly. It’s a tremendously recognizable design for fans of the Rebels series. I feel like I see a lot of hate for this suit mostly for the reason that it marks the SECOND time that an Insomniac Spider-Man game ended with a suit change that is meant to sort of act as the advantage that Spidey needed to defeat the villain. While it might seem.. a bit contrived, I LOVED the Anti-Ock suit, and The Anti-Venom suit is pretty dang… wait… ok, yeah I see your point. Regardless, I think that this is a really cool suit and I’ve enjoyed seeing Firestar show so much love for this wonderful game. This is the FOURTH figure from Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 that they have produced over the past few months and it’s wonderful to have them all displayed together. This custom minifigure is comprised entirely of official LEGO parts adorned with Firestar’s crisp and high quality UV printed detail. You can order the figure with or without an excellent custom 3x4 printed stand as well but aside from that, everything you see here is what you get. I’ll start by saying that there are two incredibly satisfying details on this figure that make it… really freaking nice to look at. Closer to the top, I love that they used black molded arms and printed them with white details along the sides. Oswald Cobblepot / The Penguin (The Batman) I remember back when I first heard that Colin Farrell was cast as the Penguin in Matt Reeves’s THE BATMAN and I thought to myself, “Ok… they’re going for something a little different here. Give him a monocle, an umbrella, and maybe a top hat and I think I can see it.” Nothing could have prepared me for how totally and incredibly they would transform Farrell into the Penguin. Someone else had to tell me that it was him when I saw that first teaser last year! I couldn’t believe it! Farrell transformed into a whole other person for this role and it is one of the things I was most excited to see in the film. For that reason, I was stoked to see Farrell’s Penguin amongst the figures from the new Batman sets and even more excited that they did such an excellent job. I think that this is one of the best figures from any of the three sets if not the very best. A lot of this praise really comes down to the face. Aayla Secura (2017) I was today years old when I found out that Secura was Quinlan Vos’s Palawan… Anyway, it’s kind of wild how few Jedi figures there are from the Clone Wars era. Sure, these were all pretty much background characters within the context of the prequels but since then, so many of them have seen new life in other Star Wars story such as the Clone Wars. Kayla Secura has only seen two minifigre variants in the two decades since her first appearance. One of these is a Clone Wars variant which of course has those infamous facial proportions from that era, and the other figure is based on the live action appearance of the character. Back in 2017, this figure appeared in a single set which was gifted to me by a follower who would later become a great friend. @michael_d_visca The figure uses the same Twi’lek head tail mold as.. pretty much every Twi’lek, but this figure gets a pass due to the fact that the mold was created specifically for her with the 2010 Clone Wars variant. This piece is honesty pretty great. It suits the shape and proportions of this portion of the character’s head very well, and the way that it is printed with the brown across the front and the interlaced bands down each head tail is actually pretty impressive. According to Bricklink, the very printing on this piece is the exact some on the 2017 as it was on the 2010, so for this level of detail to have been present on the fig back than is pretty great! Commander Bly (Phase II) AKA “Commander Yellow V2 Deluxe” A Custom Minifigure by @grandpaclonecustoms Who doesn’t LOVE Grandpa Clone Customs? It still bewilders me that this brand drops wave after wave of such exceptional LEGO-style PAD printed clones on official LEGO plastic, and that they sell them for the price they do. Sure, they’re not CHEAP, but anything you get form GCC is likely to be a heck of a lot cheaper than most of the other PAD printed customs out there. I’ve reviewed a few GCC figs in the past, but unfortunately few Clones which.. is what they’re mostly known for. This particular custom minifig is their SECOND version of Commander Bly; the Clone Commander who served under Kayla Secure during the Clone Wars and led the 327th Star Corps. This minifig is comprised of official LEGO plastic and includes a custom Kama to go around the waist as well as a Pauldron to be attached at the neck. The original V1 was different from what we see here in several respects. It did not include the LEGO macrobinocular attachment, the Kama, or the Pauldron. The figure was also different when it came to the printing. The arms were detailed with yellow rather than brown as we see on the V2, the printed portions of the Pauldron were absent, the portions of the belt towards the edge of the torso were yellow, the hip piece was unprinted, the straps visible across the legs were absent, and the brown markings rose only halfway up the knee rather than all the way up the hip piece. Matt Murdock / Daredevil (Comics) Featuring Custom Head by @quiver_customs And Custom legs by @firestartoys Daredevil is awesome. I feel like we all know that. There have been a fair amount of custom LEGO Daredevil figures over the years, but I remember being so excited when LEGO finally made an OFFICIAL Daredevil figure as part of the Daily Bugle set. Sure, it kinda sucked that he, Punisher, Blade, and other exclusives were locked behind a hefty paywall, but these figures were all relatively easy to get ahold of for me on the secondhand market. The Daredevil figure is.. pretty dang good! It has some great torso details, makes excellent use of the Black Panther ear piece turned backwards, and while the face of the figure had some great details when it came to the mask, I don’t think that everyone loved that smile that’s permanently present on the figure’s face. If there’s anything that I love as much as custom figures, it’s custom PARTS to make your official figures even better. Quiver Customs created some excellent custom UV printed heads that feature everything great about the official Daredevil figure’s mask, but with new expressions. One of these masked heads wears a more stoic expression than the one in the set. Truly, these head pieces make for a far better figure by tweaking something so simple. It’s a treat to display my Daredevil figure with this new look. Cal Kestis (Jedi Survivor) AKA “Resistance Survivor” A Custom Minifigure by @firestartoys If you love this figure, you can find it ONLY on firestartoys.com and use code FSMERC10 for 10% off! SO SO much of what makes Star Wars great is its VAST array of characters. There are some fan favorites that we hardly know outside of a couple of appearances, but one character that we’ve managed to go DEEP with is Cal Kestis. As a young survivor of Order 66 who spent much of his life in hiding, all Cal really knows how to do by the time we find him in Jedi Survivor is fight. His friends from the first game have all gone their separate ways to find peace, and that’s not something that Cal can even understand as the game begins. It’s incredible and fun to see where Cal’s story leads from there. This custom minifig is based on Cal’s default appearance in Jedi: Survivor. I still love the Cal figure made by Firestar that was based on his appearance in 2019’s Jedi: Fallen Order and the custom hair piece that they later added makes it even better. With this figure, the designers maintained consistency in terms of the already excellent face design, but have also since grown to incorporate more environmental details such as mud and dirt like we see scattered across areas of this new custom. It’s a figure that I could see easily fitting in among official LEGO minifigs and it’s a pleasure to have one on display alongside my other custom minifigs from the game. Jim Halpert I don’t know if there has ever been a character that the world collectively rooted for quite as much as John Krasinski’s Reed Rich-… I mean Jim Halpert. Purist customs for Jim have always been pretty simple because of how simply Jim dresses throughout the series and despite that, I think that this figure is one of the best figures in this set. Jim wears a simple light blue collared shirt with a dark blue tie. He dresses like this pretty frequently throughout the series, so this outfit was a great choice. The main event here is all above the neck though. If nothing else, the facial design style across all of the figures in this set is pretty consistent. There may not be many facial lines on these figures to better depict the shapes of their faces, but the mouth designs are all pretty solid and the expressions are actually perfect almost all across the board. Jim’s face may appear to be slightly generic, but I think that they actually did a decent job with the shape of the mouth just as they did with Dwight. The best part about this definitely has to be the expressions printed onto each side of the head though. These would later carry over surprisingly well onto the Amazing Spider-Man figure included in the No Way Home set! Batman (The Animated Series) AKA “The 92 Bat - Blue Edition” A Custom Minifigure by @bat_bricks Produced by @jaka.brick_ Man, I don’t think I really knew what I was in for when I opened this box. Tucked tightly into a well-designed cardboard sleeve was a matte black tin containing a throwback to simpler times… I remember Batman: The Animated Series fondly, and its neat to see that even LEGO is finally putting out a set based on this wonderful show. Today’s custom figure is based on Batman himself as he appears in the series and it’s a pleasure to review another custom minifig by none other than Bat Bricks. This custom minifig is comprised of official LEGO plastic adorned with high quality pad printed detail and the addition of four custom molded parts; the cowl, the cape, and two gauntlets. The figure also includes an additional head piece featuring an alternate expression as well as a cloth cape piece for those who might prefer one over the plastic cape. Lastly, there’s an excellent custom molded grapple gun. This custom figure approaches the art style of the animated series more closely than I would say the official does, but of course, there are those who might prefer the official for the lack of that aspect as well. I LOVE that the artist took the time and care to add these blue highlights across the figure for that animated look in a way that it doesn’t seem overpowering, but it certainly stands out. Admiral Wullf Yularen (Clone Wars) I got this figure from my friends over at @deesees_ ! Check out their site and use code MINIMERC any time for 10% off! I’m so glad that we finally have a minifig based on Yularen as he appeared in the Clone Wars. Sure, I wish that it wasn’t locked behind such a paywall, but between he and Rex, I’m very glad that its Rex who we’ll be seeing in a new and cheap set some time in the coming months. Yularen has appeared in The Clone Wars, Andor, Rebels, and A New Hope where he met his demise aboard the Death Star. We’ve seen Yularen appear in minifig form wearing his white ISB uniform, but it’s fun to have one that I can easily display alongside Anakin, Ahsoka, and Rex. The torso and head of this figure are each entirely exclusive to this set, and they are likely to remain so. Each side of the head features a more realistic-looking depiction of Yularen compared to his appearance in the Clone Wars. One side wears a sort of stoic expression while the other appears more frustrated or alarmed. Each side has some excellent facial lines such as between the eyebrows and around the cheeks, and of course there’s the mustache that matches well with the dark brown hairpiece which was an ideal choice of mold for this character. Baylan Skoll Featuring a Custom Hair Piece by @avfigures Like with the Shin figure, I reviewed this minifig a few months back and my biggest issue was undoubtedly the use of the slicked-back hair mold seen on figures since Draco Malfoy back around 2010. The only thing that ever would have really suited this character is a brand new hair mold in my opinion, and this custom piece by AV Figures is the best one I have seen so far. It is the same color as the official of course, but the shaping is absolutely fantastic. It meets the printed ends of the character’s beard on each end of the face and just looks excellent as part of the whole ensemble. I usually display this figure with custom printed arms by Firestar Toys, but I really need to get some of the custom shoulder armor on AV Figures’s site some time to really complete the look. This monumentally compelling character truly deserves a great figure. Shin Hati Featuring a Custom Hair Piece by @avfigures I reviewed this figure a little while ago and in short, there were a few things that I liked about this figure. I thought that the torso and leg details were excellent, and even the facial designs aren’t half bad. The figure could still use some arm details, but the use of pearl silver is alright in its place. However, my biggest issue with this minifig was always the hair piece. It’s the same mold that was introduced on Qi’Ra back in 2018 and while it may suit this character more so than any other preexisting LEGO parts, only a brand new mold would have really worked. Luckily, we have brands like AV Figures out there with the artistic prowess and technical ability to create brilliant custom pieces such as this one. This piece blows the other right out of the water, and it really does look like one that could have easily been produced by LEGO themselves. I liked it so much that I figured this piece and the one AV created for Baylan each deserved their own post! Austin Butler’s Feyd-Rautha was certainly a standout in Dune Part II. Almost completely recognizable in both appearance and voice, he convincingly portrayed an absolute menace throughout this film and he… really seemed to enjoy it. As perfect foil to Paul, their duel at the end of the film had me dangerously close to the edge of my seat and as I left, I found myself wondering who would be first to make such a memorable character in LEGO form! Dr. Liet Kynes I feel like Kynes is one of the less prominent characters in 2021’s Dune that I was more surprised to see as part of the new set. I thought we’d maybe get 2 or 3, but the amount we DID get is phenomenal. Of course though, I’m thrilled to see that she was included. Like Duke Leto and Chani, Kynes wears a pearl dark gray Stillsuit. Similarly to Chani but unlike Leto however, Kynes is never seen wearing any of the other outfits included in the set. Other figures like Paul or Lady Jessica could easily have their heads swapped onto other iconic outfits from the film, but I am pretty sure that Dr. Kynes does simply wear a Stillsuit through like 99% of the movie. I’ve already talked about the Stillsuits in two of my previous reviews. I like them! I’m glad that they went with the pearl dark grey color for the plastic of the torso and legs, and the prints look great. Focusing above the neck of the figure, we have a special cloth cape piece that only Kynes wears in this set. This is a recoloring of a cloth piece previously worn by a figured in a Dreamzzz set and it brings a LOT to the figure as a whole. There are simply no forgettable figures in the Atreides Royal Ornithopter set and I would say that this cape is one of the stronger features for this figure. Like Chani, the head is double-sided with the blue “Eyes of Ibad” on each side with a friendly neutral expression on one face and a Stillsuit mask on the other. There are figures where I prefer the use of the newer “medium brown” as we see here, but I wouldn’t have minded seeing the old reddish brown either when it comes to this character’s skin tone to be honest. Dwight Schrute If there is any character on this show that even comes close to being as iconic as Michael, there is no doubt that it is Dwight Schrute. Dwight is actually my favorite character on this show. He is just so entertaining and always absolutely hilarious. I’m incredibly happy that we actually have an official LEGO minifigure to represent him now. It is truly a dream come true to see this little LEGO model of an Office I’ve never been to and know so well. What I’m seeing between the figures included in this set is that the facial designs make use of a style that is not quite “realistic”, but still incorporates simple details and proportions of the characters they represent. Several figures included such as Tobey and Angela are exceptions to this since they recycle preexisting heads. There are some in the set that can be identified separate from their bodies or hair pieces fairly easy due to distinguishing features like glasses or sideburns, but Stanley and Dwight might be the only ones in the set that could EASILY be identified solely by their head pieces due to the facial likeness alone. On Dwight, we have two expressions that can easily be compared to his appearance in the series. There isn’t a huge amount of resemblance concerning the proportions of Dwight’s face or the shape of his mouth, but the expressions themselves are excellent. The glasses, eyebrows, and sideburns are perfect. Anakin Skywalker (Revenge of the Sith) A Custom Minifigure by @lightcustom_wz and @bokatanbricks Custom Hair piece by @avfigures and @inputbrick Not too long ago, two exceptional creators came together and made an INCREDIBLE Custom Anakin Skywalker figure based on his appearance in the mid to late Clone Wars. This figure showcased a brilliant understanding of LEGO’s design style and what a truly perfect LEGO Anakin figure might have looked like as part of a CMF or a UCS set. You can swap one arm for a dark brown one and BOOM; you have a brilliant Revenge of the Sith variant. (Anakin only wore a glove on ONE hand in the film, but one on both in the show) Well, if you’ve followed this channel for a while, you might know that I have wanted to see the “classic” Anakin hair updated for quite a while now. This piece debuted all the way back in 2008 and it works perfectly for Anakin in the animated Clone Wars series. When it comes to live action though… not so much. AV Figures and Input Brick collaborated to create what I think an official LEGO Revenge of the Sith Anakin hair piece would look like. I’ve seen some great custom pieces based on this hairstyle, but I think that THIS is the one that really looks like it could have been produced by LEGO. It perfectly suits this figure which ALSO brilliantly captures that LEGO-likeness. My only issue with this piece is that I wish that it was the lighter reddish brown rather than dark brown. Nonetheless, I think it looks absolutely fantastic on display. The Riddler (The Batman) The Batman turned a character who I never really considered a “favorite” amongst the villains of Gotham City, but Paul Dano’s “Zodiac Killer” style portrayal of the character was just incredible. I love this film SOOOO much and while its great to have figures on display based on its characters.. some of the ones included with the sets are a bit lackluster in my opinion. This figure is not my favorite amongst the The Batman figures. That title easily goes to The Penguin with that near perfect facial design. This figure features a few inaccuracies that I believe can only be explained by either concept art or perhaps a lack of source material available. The torso prints are surprisingly accurate to some of the images I have seen and both sides of the head are actually aren’t half bad. I only wish that the eyes were not misprinted on my figure so that they slant off to the side a bit. I like that the back is printed with details of the back of the mask rather than an alternate face, because I do not use the reddish brown hair piece that was included as part of this figure. Michael Scott Thanks to the relentless campaigns of @legotheoffice , the dream of every LEGO fan who loves this wonderful show became a reality not too long ago. Steve Carell’s Michael Scott is undisputedly one of the most iconic characters on television, so it was important that this be one of the best figures in the set. I think that the design team did a great job with this figure. Including 15 figures however, this set surely had a thinly spread budget when it came to including so many figures, so there are parts recycled here and there. Of course though, Michael is one of the main attractions with this set, so he has an exclusive head and a torso print that I am sure was designed for him before being reused for Creed in the same set. I was pretty sure that LEGO wouldn’t be able to perfectly copy the design of Michael’s tie for legal reasons, but they came close to a couple of ties we see him wearing throughout the show. He wears a blue suit every once in a while, so it was easy enough to find a picture to compare the figure to on that front. Michael’s torso is also reused on Creed but, they’re just generic suit and tie designs, so it really isn’t a huge deal at all to see parts recycled here and there. It’s likely that many people didn’t even notice. Luke Skywalker (Jedi Master) With Custom Molder Parts by @firestartoys and @bokatanbricks Man.. you guys remember that day? I skipped my college graduation ceremony to watch the Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian and to this very day, I can honestly tell you that I do not regret it. Instead watching my favorite show and spending a fraction of the price for graduation robes on a bucket of Wendy’s chicken nuggets still just.. makes more sense to me. Anyway, I watched this scene surrounded by some of my best friends who were all losing their minds watching Luke freaking Skywalker in his PRIME absolutely annihilating seemingly unstoppable Dark Troopers. It’s one of those TV/Movie moments that just felt too good to be true. For LEGO to have immortalized this scene in a relatively cheap set was just awesome. The Luke figure included is one of my favorite variants of the character and while I’ve reviewed him in the past, I wanted to take a look at him again with some awesome custom parts that I display my figure with. The first of these is a custom hood piece by @bokatanbricks that heavily resembles the classic LEGO hoods, but with the top part drawn down over the eyes. Can he see? No. Does he look awesome? Yes. I got a dark red one of these for my Palpatine figure, but the way this looks on Luke just so clearly harkens back to the way he looked during this epic scene. This piece is phenomenal and the artist behind it has a real talent for custom parts. Lieutenant Jim Gordon (The Batman) I knew Jeffrey Wright would kill it as Gordon in 2022’s The Batman. He’s an outstanding actor. What I didn’t expect is how MUCH I would come to like this interpretation of the character. He just seems like a good dude. His dynamic with Batman was interesting as I don’t think we have often seen Gordon work THIS closely and regularly with Batman in live action. It felt new, but still felt like Gordon. This is the second live-action Jim Gordon figure to appear in minifigure form and the first in nearly ten years to appear in a set. Outside of these two, we have seen a comic-inspired Gordon as well as a design from The LEGO Batman movie. Starting at the bottom of the figure, we have a pair of legs that you might find a bit familiar. These legs with the sort of sweeping fabric design on them have been seen on many figures over the past few years from Professor Snape to Nick Fury. It gets the job done though. The torso is printed with the overcoat detailing that continues down onto the legs. You have the outline details of a black coat with a white shirt underneath and a red tie hanging from the collar. This torso print is one that I am sure many purist customizers will find very useful. It’s generic, but a very effective design. The head on this figure is what I would call the highlight. I think that they did a pretty great job capturing Wright’s likeness in both the facial print itself as well as the plastic color used for the head and hands. One side wears a neutral expression while the other features an angrier look. The hair is where I find any sort of real issue with this figure. It… works I guess. Clint Barton / Hawkeye (Avengers / 2023) The original LEGO 2012 Hawkeye figure was one of the FIRST LEGO MARVEL minifigs I ever owned. I was 12 at the time and the movie hadn’t even come out yet, so I had no idea what concept art was. All I knew was that he looked dope and that Avengers was like my favorite movie ever for YEARS. Seriously, I’ve seen it at least 40 times. When 2023 came around, I was moved out, married, and working full time… but I saw that wonderful new Quintet set featuring redesigned variants of all those wonderful minifigs from the wonderful 2012 film except for… Hawkeye. It wouldn’t be until later that year with the Avengers Tower set that we’d FINALLY get a 2012 Hawkeye figures that’s based NOT on concept art like the original was, but purely on the film itself. I talk about concept art a lot in these reviews, but I’ll walk back through the concept real quick. Basically, LEGO minifigure and set design begins LONG before the set ever hits shelves. If this set is based on a movie, it can even begin the design process during or BEFORE production of the film. Here and there, we’ve seen some figures based not on what was actually IN the film, but on what might have been planned for it. For instance, figures like the 2016 Wanda Maximoff, 2015 Hank Pam, or even 2012’s Black Widow all featured designs that were altered or scrapped for the final film. This left the figures with details that might have been noticeably different from what was actually in the movies. Duncan Idaho This is perhaps my lest favorite figure included with the Dune set. That’s not to say that it’s BAD, but it certainly incorporates an… interesting design choice that I can’t say I am very fond of. Like many of the other figures in this set, the head can easily be switched onto other bodies included so as to embody that character at different points in the film. Three of the figures included in the set wear Stillsuits by default, but pretty much every except for the Baron wears one of these at some point in the film. I’ve compared all of the figures in this set wearing different attire and while that’s been a blast, unfortunately this is the last Dune figure that I’ll be reviewing.. for now… The one detail on this figure that I must say I am not a fan of is the use of the Princess Tiana hair in dark brown. This was.. a peculiar choice in my eyes. The high bun and hair strands along the side of the face just look a tiny bit odd for this character. It could be a lot worse though. I don’t have any preexisting alternatives to suggest, but I’m interested to know what you all might think. A brand new mold is what really would have done the trick. The is the second time we’ve seen a Jason Mamoa character as a LEGO figure behind Aquaman of course, but it is his first to make use of the medium nougat skin tone which suits him far better than the common light nougat and of course, it did not exist back in 2017. Kate Bishop AKA “Archer Trainee” A Custom Minifigure by @jaka.brick_ and @phoenixcustomsllc It pains me to say it, but I feel like Kate Bishop is one of the only “next generation” MCU characters to have really stuck the landing. Of course, that’s a matter of opinion, but I really enjoyed her in Hawkeye and I thought that both her and Clint’s suit designs for the final episode were fantastic. I was thrilled when LEGO released their official take on the figures as part of the MARVEL CMF series 2, but felt like the hair they reused for her was a bit… much. This custom minifigure that was collaboratively created by two of my favorite custom minifig brands does a spectacular job of blending the artists’ unique styles while implementing some excellent custom molded parts for a figure that feels high quality, accurate, and still doesn’t look so over-the-top that I happily display mine alongside the official Clint minifigure. The figure is comprised of official LEGO parts adorned with incredible pad printed detail. This includes Lucky the Pizza Dog who has been printed so as to only have the one eye just like in the show. The remaining pieces such as the hair, quiver, and bow are all custom molded parts. Starting with Lucky himself, this is a brilliant reprinted use of the official Golden Retriever piece. If I’m being honest, I go back and forth between the color used for the custom version and the darker shaded mold that was recolored for the official. I remember first seeing Kill Bill and thinking to myself, “Man, this is outrageously corny. I absolutely love it.” Quentin Tarantino is one of my favorite directors and while I may not LOVE all of his movies, there’s no denying that the man KNOWS how to make a movie. Kill Bill parts 1 and 2 are so iconic that even an OFFICIAL LEGO Ninjago set features an overt homage to the film with the Bride’s yellow motorcycle suit worn by one of the characters. Bail Organa (Rogue One) As a Senator of the Galactic Republic, ally to Padme Amidala, adoptive father to Leia Organa, and “Father of the Rebellion,” Organa’s role in the Star Wars story is surprisingly expansive. Appearing in Revenge of the Sith, Rogue One, Rebels, Kenobi and of course, the Clone Wars, it’s surprising that we’ve only ever seen one official figure based on this character. Exclusive to the Tontine IV set in 2019, this figure is based on Organa as he appeared in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story when he visited the Rebel Base on Yavin IV. All of the prints as well as the cape in this color are exclusive. The figure makes use of the “Obi-Wan / Robin / James Bond” hair piece in black which I think works great. The double-sided head makes good use of the nougat skin tone and features some pretty decent likeness to the character on each side. One wears a neutral face with a kind demeanor while the other appears more frustrated or indignant. Something that I love about this figure is how the torso details manage to feel like they’re part of the cape the figure wears when this really is a standard cape. The one Bail wears in the film covers the entire front of his torso, but these torso details manage to capture that look without inhibiting the figure’s range of motion. Overall, my chief complaint is the complete omission of the brown tunic seemingly worn beneath the olive green cloak. Instead, it seems to be gray like the pants beneath the tunic. Otherwise, some say that another hair piece may have been warranted, but I think the dual molded legs with black boots may have been a nice addition. Chani This is Zendaya’s second character to receive the LEGO minifigure treatment and I must say that this figure certainly feels more “special” than either of the three MJ figures before it. This is one of only a few figures included in the Dune set that doesn’t really wear anything else in the film, so she was always going to be wearing a Fremen Stillsuit in this set rather than one of several iconic outfits that could easily be swapped around between characters. As opposed to Leto who wears his Stillsuit without any accessories and Liet Kynes who has a spongey cloth cape, Chani makes interesting use of a rubbery scarf piece in a dark beige color. This is an interesting accessory to have chosen as this piece is commonly seen on civilian characters. It’s a very normal looking scarf with one end that hangs down a character’s shoulder. However, it is turned backwards on this figure so that this side hangs down behind the figure’s back. This leaves only the side that wraps around the character’s neck and shoulders facing the front without any ends hanging down. Its an interesting use of this piece that has been met with criticism only because of the very normal-looking end of the scarf that hangs down, but I find it to be very creative and not hugely egregious. It might have been made even better with a cloth piece that could have been attached underneath the mold, but I doubt that LEGO would have wanted to tuck a cloth piece under a mold that clings so closely to the torso. Regardless, I am just glad that Chai’s scarf was not just printed onto the upper torso. All three of the Stillsuits included with this set are completely identical which opens up the possibility of swapping them onto other characters should you choose to do so for photos or whatever. Firestar’s latest in their excellent and ongoing collection of custom Wall-Crawlers is none other than Miles Morales as he appears throughout most of Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 on the PS5. This remains perhaps my favorite suit that Miles has worn across any of his appearances and while I’ve reviewed a few customs depicting this design already, its always a treat to have a close look at Firestar’s take. I’m a big fan of their design style, but it’s also always just such a pleasure to talk to the artists behind these figures. Firestar’s customs are some of the very best you can get when it comes to UV printed figures, and you’ll find that they are far cheaper and more attainable than most high end custom figures. Like with other FST Wall-Crawlers, there’s loads of display possibilities with this figure. The base figure includes a fixed “neutral” expression for the mask’s eye lenses, but you can purchase four alternate expressions as well for more wonderful display options. Amongst these, there’s angry, confused, shocked, and focused expressions that can be purchased individually or even as a 4-pack for a slight discount. There’s even a wonderful 3x4 display stand featuring the figure’s “copyright-friendly” moniker on one side and his logo on the other. How cool is that?? I have honestly been loving Netflix’s live action adaptation of The Last Airbender. It’s a show that feels welcoming to newcomers while still being a show that was TRULY made for fans of the original. The Punisher / Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) AKA “The Executioner” A Custom Figure By @jaka.brick_ LIMITED 216/222 Jon Bernthal was BORN to play the Punisher. The man has this absolute MENACING nature about him that just made him just perfect to play Frank Castle. He comes across as an absolute beast in every fight scene and his overall performance as Frank is one of the most underrated amongst all MARVEL characters. I can’t see ANYONE else playing The Punisher in the MARVEL Cinematic Universe and I am so excited to see him return. I’d been looking for a Punisher figure for a long time and seeing JAKA BRICK’s astounding design, I knew it was something special. I’ve had my eye on this brand for a while but WOW. They have really been killing it over the past couple of years and I could not be more impressed with some of their recent work. This is the definitive LEGO Punisher Custom in my opinion and I love it so much that it really makes me want to watch the show again. The figure is pad printed 360 degrees around official LEGO plastic parts for the base figure, and it has a custom hair piece as well as a custom molded pistol. The printed details all flow perfectly from one surface to the next and you’ll even find printing on the inner legs as well. Gurney Halleck MAN, I am so ready for Dune: Part II. Everyone in this film is just so exceptionally well-cast and Brolin’s Gurney Halleck is no exception. He was incredible as Thanos, I loved his role in No Country for Old Men, and he absolutely killed it as Cable in Deadpool 2. He’s just awesome. This figure lives up to that in.. some ways.. I’ll go ahead and get my main critique out of the way here. The “cheery” demeanor of BOTH faces on this figure just.. doesn’t do it for me. Its quite common for LEGO figures to have friendly faces being as they are TOYS of course, but in such an advanced set based on such a mature film, I really would have preferred to see a neutral expression on one side and an angry one on the other. Gurney’s just a really stern dude. However, one side of the head wears this sort of smug expression while the other has what looks like a bit of a cocky sneer. Frankly, I’ll even say that I think the likeness present on both faces isn’t half bad. It’s the expressions that are so off-putting. In terms of preexisting molds though, I think that this hair piece does the trick in dark grey. It’s from the neck down that this figure REALLY shines. The shoulder armor mold previously seen on figures like Wrecker, Paz Vizsla, and Dark Troopers works marvelously here for some brilliant 3-dimensional detail just in terms of a preexisting piece. The shape isn’t perfect of course, but it’s dang close and I think that molding this piece in light grey while the rest of the body is dark grey was a good move. The prints that extend from this piece onto the torso make for this brilliant blending of detail that I’ve found myself tremendously impressed with. I finally got around to watching the newest episodes of the Bad Batch and absolutely loved them! This show is wild. It can range from spectacularly MID episodes to some of the best Star Wars ever on a DIME. Crosshair continues to be one of my favorite things about the show and Omega I’ve been pleasantly surprised with how much I actually like Omega! All of the characters are great, but this show seems to shine brightest when it focuses on the perspective of one character and their journey. Kevin Feige I’ve got to admit that I never thought we would get a LEGO Kevin Feige figure! If you don’t know who this guy is, Kevin Feige has been the president of Marvel Studios and the primary producer of the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise since 2007. The films he has produced have a combined worldwide box office gross of over $29.7 billion, making him the highest grossing producer of all time. Even before the MCU as we know it, Feige has had some role in the production of EVERY MARVEL film since 2000. The impact that this guy has had on film and pop culture over the past decade and a half simply cannot be understated and it’s.. really interesting to see a LEGO figure based on a REAL person as its relatively rare. Both the head and torso of this figure are currently exclusive to 2023’s Avengers Tower set. While the hat baring a silver Avengers logo was created for this very figure, it was recycled onto the nameless figure included with the free gift with purchase that came with the Avengers Tower. A Kevin Feige figure was ALWAYS going to be wearing a simple baseball cap decorated with some sort of MARVEL logo and while I do sort of wish that it was the MARVEL STUDIOS logo, the Avengers emblem works as a close second. The likeness present on this one-sided head is… surprisingly good. I mean yeah, he’s an average looking dude, but they managed to really surprise me with the details of his facial outline, chin, and smile. Scarlet Spider / Ben Reilly (ATSV) AKA “The Genetic Clone” A Custom Minifigure by @minigazer2019 NOTICE: This is an EARLY copy of the figure. The FINISHED product will include a custom molded belt. Let’s get one thing out of the way. Upon first seeing this figure, I thought to myself, ‘MAN, those eyes are really low on the face…” Then, I watched the movie again and remembered that they were that low on the animated character as well. In fact, they look lower than the character’s actual eyes under the mask in.. a lot of adaptations. Now that we’ve got that little note out of the way.. DANG. A lot of times when it comes to LEGO figures, less is more. Some custom minifig artists go for MORE detail and some aim for the relative simplicity of official figures. When it came to this custom, the artist behind it had every reason to wild! The very source material is famous for being highly detailed and stylized with “well-defined” musculature and some odd proportions. Nonetheless, there’s no denying how iconic the Scarlet Spider costume truly is, and I think that this custom figure embodies its appearance in Across the Spider-Verse PERFECTLY. The increased definition incorporated into the design looks quite akin to the animated character, but still not so much so that I find the design visually overpowering.
