My husband very lovingly said I need to show you guys new art... but like... this takes me so many hours. So you bet your buns I'm going to show it to you over and over again until you absolutely can't stand me (is that now for some of you?). The reality is that hand embroidery is a SLOOOOOOWWWW art form, so I don't always have fresh new content. I snapped this photo quickly the other day to send to @sewfunkadelic with no real intention of sharing it on my grid. The backgrounds messy and the hoops aren’t fully finished, but I’m proud of how this collection is coming together, messy edges and all. I feel like my “style” was stuck in a rut for most of last year but inspiration and new ideas just weren’t coming. I got so in my head about what sells, what Instagram wants to see, what I should be working on, that I forgot to play and enjoy my stitching and how important that is! My dad is an avid sailer. He sailed from Hawaii to Vancouver island when he was younger and we’ve had a number of sailboats pass through our lives growing up. That being said, I’ve only been sailing a couple of times because it scares the actual 💩 out of me. I grew up on ski/surf boats, but I just can’t get used to a sailboat and that feeling like you’re going to fall off at any small turn. May is a really special month. It's when I began this little hobby account (in 2021). Over time, this account has grown from a space to share my art and my wellness, into connecting with new people and also slowly introducing products that help stitchers keep organized while also infusing their personalities into their own journey. I’ve expanded from hand embroidery into digital art, and now watercolour. I have only just begun scratching the surface of my art style. My absolute favourite part of this entire account has been the connections I've made with total strangers, both embroidery artists and other. I've met so many like-minded individuals, and made some great friends along the way. I spend my days here because I feel welcome, like I can express myself in a supportive community. There are lovely moms on here that I go to for advice, fellow business owners who I run ideas by, stitchers who I share progress photos with, and Swifties who I comb over theories with. It's a well-rounded community of amazing, wonderful, vibrant people. If you've ever liked, commented, or shared my work, please know I am very grateful. It takes a lot of courage to share your artwork, knowing that some will think it's not great. It’s a vulnerable thing and it’s more than just hitting a “post” button. There are a lot of insecurities that come along with sharing yourself online. Plenty of imposter syndrome too. I'm happy with the way this journey has unfolded and I look forward to more time spent creating and getting to know you, too! #lylypunch no.59 Heads in the clouds. ☁️☁️☁️ After a week of seeing the doctor too many times, taking heaps of antibiotics and steroids, the body is finally on the mend. I lost track of days while drifting in and out of sleep, also didn’t have the energy to keep a tab on work. Felt better on Sunday and somehow pulled out the yarn and needle-punch supplies and started creating again. The quiet times with uninterrupted flow is something I haven’t experienced in years and just sitting here crafting feels like the biggest achievement I had in the entire week. Mornings start with coffee percolating gently, my breathe rising and falling to the rhythm of needle punching, savoring the moment of having headspace to create with inspiration just taking over, knowing that it will soon disappear once I turn on my computer and mywork brain back in action. Which is all the more reason to enjoy it now! 🧶
