I still think about the inspiration for this one... 🔮 This little ditty was inspired by a very vivid dream I had many years ago. At the time, I knew very little about the May tradition, and later discovered that the maypole dance is a spring ritual long known to Western Europeans. Usually performed on May 1 (May Day). The custom is done around a pole lavishly adorned with flowers and ribbon to symbolize a tree. Practiced for generations in countries such as Germany and England, the maypole tradition dates back to the dances ancient people used to do around actual trees in hopes of harvesting a large crop. 🌹 In my dream, I was a teenage girl just graduating from school. I, as were all of the other young ladies, were wearing long white dresses with high collars. The maypole was towering in the middle of a very green and happy courtyard. Nuns, I surmised were my teachers, were celebrating the occasion by dancing, skipping, and throwing flower petals. I, however, amidst this happy scene, was filled with dread. I knew that I was going to have to get married in the coming weeks, and I did not want to at all...👰♀️🙅♀️ Crazy stuff! . . . ✨ Complete with gold metallic floss throughout and housed in a lovely worn gold frame from @amhfancy. 🖤 New stuff is on the way. My inaugral post for #memademay! Starting with a new favourite, these wide leg #bisquetrousers in a size 18 by @vivianshaochen. I sized down for these and modified the waistband by taking off 1/2 inch to allow for 48mm elastic as I thought the larger 2 inch was too big for my preferences. I love these trousers, they're inspired by a Toast version (see last pic) and I think I've succeeded at making them workwear. The fabric is so nice to work with and heavy enough not to be sheer, from the lovely @sarahsimplelifeuk who included a handwritten note with the package. Paired with a *heavily* modified #bathursttop by @stitchwitchpatterns which you may notice is not backless, cos I extended across the neck and added a button placket (that yes I know gapes slightly as needs more ease). Years ago I visited my friends in California on a much needed vacation and they helped me have a fantastic time, which included my first trip to the Pacific Ocean. Another pair of socks finished! These were the mystery knit along from Olive Knits for the spring. The pattern is called Fritillary Socks. It’s a fun slipped stitch pattern with small cabels to twist the slipped stitches around. It was a fun knit. I did have a little bit of fit issues to start with so I had to frog my first attempt and go up another needle size. But in the end I got a beautiful pair of socks. The yarn is Knit Picks Stroll Cobblestone Heather for the grey and the pink is @oliventwoewe Crush It on their Twain base. 🌱🖤🌿 My coven of green witches is growing! I'm getting close to finishing my third witch, and I have already decided that I need some more! They're so fun to stitch! 💚 All three of these designs are by @thelaurelwitch ✨️ stitched on 32ct Zweigart Lugana in Olive Green 🤍 Photos 1-3 are "The White Witch of Autumn" although she's giving me more of a spring vibe. I did make some minor colour substitutions. The pattern has a beautiful spooky background and ghostly frame, but I decided to stitch the witch only and will be making her into a tiny doll. 💚 Photos 4 and 5 show the finished "Homestead Witch" with the "Green Witch" making an appearance as well. When I sew them into tiny dolls, I'll be using the leafy fabric shown in the background of the photos. My finished #meandervest designed by @klarapushin_knitweardesign ! This was my first sweater vest & a challenging knit for me. The most ripping back and re-knitting I’ve done. But I learned SO MUCH. There’s so many satisfying details to this design, the double knit edge! the side seam cables! the zig-zag bind off! Such a thoughtfully designed pattern.
