The results are quite surprising. 5 suga seems to give the best texture, while 9 suga lays flatter. Development of an appliqué tree frog's arm! Going backwards as usual. The felt padding idea in tile 9 was rejected in favour of a bit of quilt wadding. The result is nice and rounded. The orchid mantis is complete 💕 I had some lovely pink purls I wanted to use so the orchid mantis seemed perfect for it. I used a mixture of metal threads, DMC threads and beads to make this piece and a variety of goldwork stitch types including basket weave, cutwork and chipping. This should have been a 2023 finish but I have only just finished it. I have wanted to stitch a Christmas Carol pattern for ages and as soon as I saw this pattern I had to stitch it. I did originally finish it at the beginning of last December but as I moved the QSnap to finish the pattern the white stitches in the first ghost's dress got squashed. I didn't want to deal with it so I put it away until I could face it. In the end it wasn't as bad as I thought it was. I washed it and ironed it and most of the stitches puffed back up and I only had to replace a few. Now I just need to frame it before this Christmas. My latest lichen study. Love how wool encapsulates and distorts silk, this piece of work is around the size of an old Observer book of Lichens dating from 1963. I love these old books, in their day they must have opened up a whole new world to a generation. Now very outdated with black and white photographs and illustrations they are practically impossible to use for identification.
