Basis Period Reform and what it is all about. All sole trader and partnership businesses must now report their profits on a tax year basis, beginning with the Self Assessment return due by 31 January 2025 (covering the tax year 2023 to 2024) and going forward. Any business that previously had a different accounting period must declare profits from the end of the previous accounting date in 2022 to 2023 up to 5 April 2024, with the additional profit (after overlap relief) being transitional profit. The transitional profit will be spread by default over 5 years including 2023 to 2024. ➡️ Doula’s ask me this question a lot. “What should I charge?” ⬅️ Let me give you an example here. Firstly, save this post! 📌 1) Let’s say my yearly financial goal is $40,000. 2) I look at my yearly/monthly income- what I want to earn and the months I work. Being a mum I take into account school holidays. I definitely take a chunk of the summer holidays off as Thomas isn’t in daycare or holiday care. For this example however lets work on 12 months. So $40,000 ÷12 = $3,333 3) For fun, let’s say I can only commit to 4 clients per month. 4) So that means $3,333 ÷ 4 = $833.25. OR it could look like 12 clients in 12 months at $3,333. 5) Remember this does not include client gifts, travel, anything in your doula basket and more. You have to add these extra costs on top of $833.25 in order to make a profit. When I first started as a doula and even a mentor I made a big MISTAKE of always looking at what others were doing, what they were charging and what extras were included. A lot of doula’s I’ve supported charge such a low rate because its what they think they’re worth. We also all have different lives, different bills to pay, different packages and offerings to work. If you don’t price properly, your business won’t grow. Remember this work is so vitally important to these parents, it’s also your time, energy and your passion here. Where I need to be right now! 🤧 Resting to stamp out the onset of my first winter sickness was not what I had planned for the first day of kids back to school!🏫 My mind had me cocooned in the home office, pedal to the metal pumping through admin, planning and content. 😝 I have to admit this is hard for me. I want to just push through as I did in years gone by. Yet I now know that ultimately I will achieve more this week if I give myself the grace and space to rest today. 🛌 The HR Haven provides business owners with a soft place to land with all the “people stuff.” You’ll often hear me say that to lead others you must first lead yourself. Today me leading myself (as much as I don’t want it to) looks like REST! 😴 I’m facilitating a leadership workshop later this week and want to give my all to participants! I pump so much energy, vibrancy and a lot of me into these sessions.❤️ The more I invest both my time and money into ‘knowing’ myself the better I can ‘lead’ myself! Two very different tools / modalities which I’m calling on today are DiSC profiling and Human Design. They may be developed from very different places yet I’ve discovered they complement each other perfectly. 👌 My DiSC preference is an ‘I type’ or influencer and my Human Design energy is a manifestor. I’m designed to inform and guide others. Take your audience a long for a journey with you or your product/ service being the hero. Here’s a simple structure you can follow: 1. Introduction: * Start with a hook to grab attention. This could be a question, a shocking statement, or an intriguing fact related to your story. * Introduce the main character or subject of your story. Make it relatable or interesting to your audience. 2. Conflict or Problem: * Present the main challenge or conflict that your character faces. This could be a personal struggle, a difficult decision, or an external obstacle. 3. Resolution: * Show how the character overcomes the challenge or resolves the problem. This could involve personal growth, creative problem-solving, or seeking help from others. * Emphasise the lessons learned or the positive outcome achieved. Make it uplifting or inspiring for your audience. 4. All you are going to need is one thing... A dark single fitted sheet. ⬛ Place the sheet around the door (if you have a larger than the standard door, you may need to use a bigger sheet) Sometimes you will need to play around with getting it around the corners just right, but it's so worth the payoff. You'll be amazed how dark this will get your baby's sleep environment.
